Lots of good options. Sauteed with olive oil and hot pepper and garlic. drizzled with lemon or lime juice and black pepper dipped in chipotle mayo If you like the sensation, with a low-strength wasabi mayo/aioli With achiote/annato With spicy pineapple/lime/hot pepper sauce (blend and warm up). Remoulade (truly glorious…

Agreed. Also with a large family background in medicine and training in EMS. This is the thing for me - massage feels good. If you have achy muscles and joint issues, it's likely that some chiropractic things will help. I've had physiotherapy for injured neck, back, shoulders, and sprained ankles. I did consult a chiro…

I assume that by church you mean a Christian institution. Maybe you use the Bible as a guide? Let's see: "Let the women learn in silence with all subjection. But I suffer not a woman to teach, nor to usurp authority over the man, but to be in silence. For Adam was first formed, then Eve. And Adam was not deceived, but the…

The calories seem ballpark reasonable, but that is not lightly active as per the descriptions. Put sedentary and track the exercise separately, that's more accurate. (I ride my bike 10+ hours a week, but I have an office job so it's sedentary + actual workouts)
-
Settle down :) . Remember this is a calorie-tracking website? I can eat about 4 cups of cabbage for the same calories as one single orange. No, it's not the same nutritionally but there's a large bulk vs. calories factor when you put them in your plate as part of your meal.
-
And if you think about it, nutritionally probably is better to have some V8 equivalent than another can of coke...

Vitamin D. Doesn't need to be cooked, but needs some oil to facilitate absorption. One of the issues with cooking is that people then dump the liquid that has some of the nutrients dissolved in it. Make a soup stock with that :) Other nutrients that are made more bioavailable by cooking: carotenoids, like the orange and…

I have a juicer, I love my juicer. My favourite are beets - great source of NOX, proven to increase aerobic performance in recent studies. My wife hates the flavour, though. So I juice beets, carrots, apples, ginger, kale, cucumber, etc. Sometimes mixed with other juices for flavour, or made into a soup (rarely). And yes,…

Unfortunately, I'll give you a tautological answer: as often as it works for you. What is clear is that successful, long-term weight loss correlates strongly with people that weigh themselves to monitor the changes in their weight with regularity. In other words, you can't improve what you don't measure. Maybe one way is to…

Well, I should have said that instead of being so dismissive :) The hot and cold thing is more related to vasodilation issues - in other words, blood pressure going low for a moment or two. I am familiar since I have a very low heart rate (<40 at rest) and when severely fatigued I sometimes will do something that will…

Conveniently, calorie estimates are very reliable for "on foot" exercises. They basically don't depend on speed - only mass (weight) and distance matter. So you cover 3 miles and weight 200 lb? Use a calculator, not your HRM. Too much variability, opaque algorithms (some include basal burn! So even if you're sleeping…

Well, given your pace and recovery bits the answer is obvious: start training to reduce the "walking" parts. That will make you faster consistently until you can actually run the mile full on. So, if you now do one lap, walk 30 s, and repeat do one lap and walk only 20 s. Next week, only 15 s. And so on. That's how you get…

Not intending to be a troll, and yes - I recognize being harsh. For me the issue is obvious. When you work out it's not just nutrient totals that matter, is nutrient timing. You seem to be underfueled for the workout you're attempting. If you were just sitting down and reading or other light activities probably you'd be…

Sorry again, but no - again, from your original post, it is common you have the "shakes" after your workout on a regular basis. That's still hypoglycemia. So essentially you're every (workout) day teetering on the edge of blacking out due to inappropriate fueling. It eventually catches up with you but you maintain it…
-
I'm sorry but this is stupid. If you "pass out" due to lack of food, then IF is NOT working. Unless you and I have an opposite definition. The condition is called hypoglycemia. I am not a doctor, but in my uneducated opinion I'd say "duh, so yeah, that's what happens when people don't fuel sufficiently". The answer for me…

I can easily eat 1400 calories in one meal. No problem there! Even without candy. Heck, two burgers after a long bike ride and a beer are 1000+ calories, and that's before digging into the roasted potatoes. If by your own admission you feel great (and I assume you're also seeing the results you expect), why change things?…

I'm sorry you missed the quotation marks in my post above. Here they are again for clarity, separate from the body of the text: " Chemicals " :)
-
What if they cleaned it with "chemicals"!!?! the horror!
-
I think part of the problem is that every fad/celebrity/proponent has a different definition. I like clean food. I don't like dirt in my mouth. That said, for athletic performance (and not just weight management) I do believe there are better quality food stuffs than others. In other words, calorie per calorie, I'd rather…

I think it makes perfect sense to ask the supplier for product instructions! Asking a neutral-to-negative forum actually makes no sense at all. I don't use herbalife and personally don't think I'd ever use a buy a shake and eat less program. But why would you go ask a competitive approach about it? Boggles the mind.
-
Ah, yes. I forgot this. I can't deal with the aftertaste of the meat at McD. I have no problem with other fast food burgers. Their fries are ok.

I can completely relate. My weakness is evenings after training, 10 pm or later. I seem to scarf down whatever is available. It's like a deluge - start with a reasonable portion of protein for recovery, becomes 3 bowls of cereal and granola. A book I read stated that one strategy is to change your habits - remove the…

I know a lot of people that avoid fruitcake like the plague. I like one or two versions with lots of pecans.

I disagree. I consider myself a thinking fan for some sports (of course, not all or even many). I played volleyball, baseball, soccer and fencing in university. My grandfather was a reasonably successful soccer coach and I was raised to understand the game. When watching a game, some people have commented that it's…

I drink way too much soda (diet) now. I don't think it has negative health effects, but it is not exactly a health drink either. Black coffee is awesome. I take no milk, and when really hot I'll ice it with a small amount of sweetener. I had a horrible time using clight and Mio (not the sports thing, not available here at…

I do have a problem with hunting endangered animals. Or damaging sensitive habitats through encroachment, overexploitation, etc. Those could prove to be useful in many ways, irrespective of your ethical stance. I have no problem with hunting in general. Or fishing. Or farming. I eat meat, I eat vegetables. I consider human…

Well, for this, coconut oil is actually much better. Olive oil (the good stuff, cold pressed, virgin) has a relatively low smoke point - in other words, you can make coconut oil hotter and stir fry things better! Horses for courses (coconut oil as salad dressing would be hideous and clumpy). It is still oil. It is still…

Please note that the TDEE, RMR, etc. are estimates. In other words, if you're measuring everything accurately (most common source of error) and you're not losing or gaining, then time to move on to review the assumptions. In my case, the assumptions for RMR (and hence TDEE, since exercise was measured very accurately with…

I'd run in the evenings. Not a morning person at all.

MFP works based on a model for calorie intake and expendture. This model is based on average people, with significant margins of error. So, there's large individual variabilities. Are you getting the results you want? If so, why change things? Are you too hungry? Weak? Sick? Then for sure maybe you need to eat more. Are…
