Yes actually I have come to think the quotas given by MFP are fairly realistic in terms of recommendations. Check this out for all the ins & outs http://www.reducetriglycerides.com/lifestyle_triglycerides_sugar.htm

I hope this is not taken the wrong way - but if you like it then have some in moderation but don't have "any" alcoholic beverage because it supposedly has health benefits. i see just as many studies say the cons far outweigh the pros. All alcohol is toxic to us - in moderation it's all good but we shouldn't try to convince…

Fantastic Ox - congratulations. I really need my son to see this :/
-
ROFL - so hard it hurts - thanks for that :D Sorry - seriously though - glad you worked it out - and with MFP you are set for success :)
-
@drmomm - yup. I don't see it as a diet - so there is no cheating. This is a lifelong change for me so I don't forego anything - I just allow for it. That's not to say I don't mess up sometimes but all in all I stick to a plan.

My focus has been on calories. I see the macros as good goalposts for later or as well. I have been over on sugar since day one and now sodium is knocking me around a bit - but neither has harmed my weight loss at all. That's not to say I don't see it as something to shoot for but the bottom line is I don't stress about it…

Don't know about extreme but both my wife & I get a bit dry through the night - we just keep a water bottle each by the bedside - wake up, feel dry - just take a mouthful - it's enough :)

I'm with the myth thinking. It's not so much about the time you eat it's that on average late night "snacking" usually means luxury foods rather than good nutrition. Also that eating just prior to bed can "for some" interfere with sleep. For me, I don't think it makes the blindest bit of difference. I workout late and eat…

I have saved the link and will get back and read your whole story as I really want to know all the details. But for now - I just had a gander at your photos over time - and - speechless. Absolutely stunning success - you deserve high accolades - good on you :)

Two of my favorites: When I joined MFP I had run out of notches at the end of my belt - I recently ran out of notches at the other end of the same belt :) Not so long ago I borrowed (pinched) a pair of my youngest son's (18yr old) trousers LOL. He's one of those that has always just eat whatever he wants and has always…

I'm in Aus - so the specific mat is useless to you but maybe it will help in terms of what to look for - as I had exactly the same gripe as you and this is the mat I now have and it is brilliant. http://www.rebelsport.com.au/ecom/rebel/product_detail.aspx?id=16725&cat=383 ps - I don't know about the states but as you can…

I've pretty much lost spot on as planned - 1/2kg / 1lb a week. About 3 weeks ago I slowed that down even more now to 1/4kg 1/2lb a week & looking maintenance in the eye soon I'd say. I was in no real rush & wanted it to be sustainable plus I backed off as I got closer to goal again so the transition to maintain would be…

Bit of a judgement call but - I do because - my daily activity level is sedentary but I walk 20min 5 days to/from work and I changed my ways and take "all" stairs I can now-a-days both ways. But if I found I wasn't losing to plan then I'd maybe re-assess that decision.

Not personally as I'm a day walker but my wife is a Baker and finds it hard & at least 1 of my pals works shifts and yeh it can be a real challenge. My wife is now using a service that basically plans a 1800 cal day for you - it takes a lot of the hassle out of it. You could do the same though just be planning ahead -…

Wow - you know I hadn't thought about it - it was not unusual for me to get HB from time to time before MFP. Haven't got one bout in the whole time since changing my ways.

Hi Team Yet another Aussie here. Sandgroper Perthite, but x Banana Bender starting out in Ipswich. I've done a slow and steady pace and now after roughly 6 months am pretty damn close to looking maintenance in the eye. Feel free to add me if you like - just pls mention the thread. @Greensnow - "Anyone in Tasmania?! :)" Nup…

@BrockDoe - "It's the fibre in the natural products that helps counteract the effects of the sugar." Dang, yes I keep forgetting that - the whole plain natural is ok thing is too ingrained :O

All sugars as most of us know are not created equal. I found the following article to be really helpful in "further / fully" understanding the ins & outs of it all. http://www.reducetriglycerides.com/diet_triglycerides_sugar.htm I still show the sugar column as I like to keep an eye on it even though the DB & almost every…

Maybe also checkout other (other than Peanut) based butters/milk - ie. I hear Almond Butter & Almond milk bandied around a bit - and supposedly yes we can get them in Aus, I am soon to look as I'm getting close to just trying to maintain and find even now a bit of hassle sometimes getting up to goal net. Also maybe swap in…

I have two teenage boys - OMG make that 1 teenage (still just) & 1 20yr old son/s plus I am an IT Pro & space invaders kid from way back LOL. We have or did have every console known to man. Wii/s now gone in favour of Kinect. My wife & I play a MMO - not saying which as it's embarrassing lol - oh Ok RS :/ & yep into XBox &…
-
@jmruef - absolutely. For me it's not a diet it's a life change about how I see food & I'm not going without treats for the rest of my life LOL. Anything goes - just in a lot more balanced way. I "think" of nutrition in a 80/20 way - be good at least 80% of the time - though I think really it's a lot better than that - but…

Brilliant yeabby. @FeliciaJonae - NSV - non scale victory - anything giving a feeling of success not tied to the numbers of the dreaded Scales. Cheers

Welcome John & good luck for continued success here :) Cheers

Hi fellow Ozzies WA Ozzie here - Perth/opian to be exact. Enjoying great success with MFP & XBox Kinect... Cheers to all Feel free to add me if you don't mind a WAOzzie on ya wall - just mention the thread please.

Hay madelainet Welcome :) You have come to the right place. Perth/opian here. MFP is the road to success - I can say that as I am close to looking maintenance in the eye - with a little unease I might add. Feel free to add me - anyone - just mention the thread please. Cheers

In respect of hunger - I also found that with a goal loss of 1lb a week - the extra calories I got from exercise I did outweighed any additional hunger I experienced from that exercise. Also the type of food you eat will effect hunger too - ie. protein based foods are said to satisfy hunger longer.
-
All the time - but then I use Kinect for almost all my working out - it's not like working out - it's fun. It's been my saviour to get me off my butt after 10+ years of being a slacker. Oh & in respect of getting carried away - hmm well errr - I have given a precisely delivered uppercut to my loungeroom right fitting -…
-
Yup - what you eat makes a big difference. For example I find - if I have oats in the morning, keeps me going without any hassle; if I have a muesli based cereal (almost all having added sugar) - I'm hungry 1.5hrs later. I eat a lot after I workout - I'm working on the premise my metabolism is still burning along & it…

I am in exactly the same boat right at the moment. My view is absolutely. You're body needs fuel to fight it off as quick as possible. Yes the extra water is great and well needed but I "try" to also get in more good fuel too. Doesn't exactly go like that as I tend to eat a few "comfort" foods when I'm not on top of the…

Brilliant EvanR - outstanding and motivational transition. You should be proud, hold your head high. Best of luck with your continuing journey - though it looks like you've got all the right stuff - no luck needed.
