I think a deep squat is the way to go for several reasons. I used to make excuses for not going ATG or close. I'm much better off than I used to be. Deep squats are good for glutes, good for ankle mobility--and I also find that, to some degree, you can "bounce" off the bottom for a more explosive squat that allows you to…

I think one's body structure and (more importantly) hormones and hormone sensitivity can certainly affect outcomes...than said CICO is in fact the bottom line. And another thing that affects a person's outcome (related to hormones) is that people falsely assume cardio is important in weight loss. You get better results…

Eat more. Get stronger. Use heavy weight training, with progressive overload. Add weight to the bar incrementally. Adding muscle is the adaptive response to the stress of forcing your body to get stronger.

I think both 1 and 2 are really bad ideas that keep getting perpetuated, and are minimally applicable (at best). #1 depends mostly on your hormones and hormone sensitivity. 2 has to do with "the thermic effect of food" which is so minimal it's not worth mentioning. Neither applies to me at all. I do intermittent fasting…

This. You want muscle mass? You have to do TWO things: Eat more, get stronger. NOTHING ELSE will work. Focus on getting stronger. Add resistance. It's called progressive overload (look it up). Push hard, with a few core lifts, and use compound multi-joint movements (look it up). Your body will adapt to this stress by…

Yes, do try it. I am one of many success stories. And yes, "calories in, calories out" is in fact the main thing. And yes, a shorter eating window does somewhat seem to lend itself to a consistently easier time meeting calorie targets. But what the overly simplistic posts fail to account for are the HORMONAL BENEFITS of…

That is part of it, but not the whole story. Fat people have screwed up hormones too, and that would tend to perpetuate their situation, which slows down their results. I say "they" but it was once me too. Additionally, they get a lot of bad advice, follow it, and lose hope. This is often perceived as laziness.

That is an adequate deficit. The other element, that you may not currently be addressing, are your hormones. Try adding intermittent fasting (eat 8 hrs a day, don't eat for the other 16--I eat from 12pm to 8pm). Try some fasted weight training or cardio. Emphasis weight training over other exercise. This is what worked for…

My diet is high in both dietary cholesterol and saturated fats, and all my numbers are stellar, I have a six pack (at age 47), and have never felt better.

I don't count my calories as much anymore. But that is because for two years I counted and measured everything. Now that I just maintain my weight, I can afford to guestimate, but I still weigh myself every other day, and keep a rough count in my head. I am able to do this because, as someone who actually spent a lot of…

I think it's a bad idea. I say eat them if you have to, but you will be better off not eating them. One reason for this is accurate calorie counting is important, and I would question the accuracy of estimating your calories burned during exercise.

Permanent alteration of metabolism is BS. In addition to the obvious factors (weight, age, bodyfat percentage, gender, etc.) hormones are a big component. Which is why in general men do better (testosterone), young men do better (testosterone), thyroid issues make it tough (again, hormones). Well, the obese basically have…

There are several studies linking excessive protein consumption with kidney and prostate issues. WebMD and Mercola's sites link to some of them. There were studies done in Germany too a while back but I forgot which university that was. And the the amount of protein (192g) listed in the study you cite is not really that…

I eat a lot of saturated fat and have never been healthier. It is my understanding it's polyunsaturated fats (especially most vegetable oils) that bad, especially when you cook with them. It seems like that's why restaurant food is so bad for you, because they fry everything in polyunsaturated veggie oils. So I pretty much…

I think most fitness and bodybuilding sites and "gurus" overestimate the amount of protein a person needs, and it does stress major organs to over do it. That said, it is the most satiating of the 3 macronutrients, and has the highest thermic effect (it takes the most energy to break it down and use it). All this said, I'm…

Yeah BMI is pretty much useless. I'm at the lower end of over weight according to BMI and I am 6'0", 33 inch waist, and washboard abs.
