I second lemurcat's comments, and I will also add that high salt intake combined with low potassium intake can mask fat loss and cause bloating, so it's not always about carb intake or sugar intake specifically. I run into this problem quite often lately, especially since I'm close to my goal and losing slowly.…

^ That. It's junk pseudo-science at best. What they are TRYING to talk about is outlined in this article. There's a linked peer reviewed summary article at the bottom which is where the author gets most of his information. http://www.bodyrecomposition.com/fat-loss/the-energy-balance-equation.html/ Edit: Here is the link to…

I'm not sure I follow what you mean by, "Can someone tell me what a chicken breast cooked at home comes under? I cooked it in those bags so the moisture is kept it with a seasoning which I record down." If you want an better estimate of the calories in meat and other things, you need to invest in a food scale. This will…

Potatoes are the best, in my opinion, way to get potassium in. Lot of bang for the caloric buck, and cheap too.

1-4 It varies a lot for me based on stress level, travel schedule, etc.

^ That happens to me too. I have a lot of loose belly skin from pregnancy and 70 lb weight loss. I'm considering having surgery at some point.

I love that movie.

I agree with the above posters. There is no shame in taking medication to help with this. People who have not had major depression do not understand that it's not a lack of willpower that is a barrier to feeling better; it is a real medical illness, often brought on by external stress, but sometimes not. Please do not…

You might just have to guesstimate. Just from experimentation, about 4-5 oz of chicken breast (uncooked) correlates to 3-4 oz cooked, but it varies a lot depending on fat content and cooking method.

Don't worry about other people. Just go, do your thing, and try to relax and enjoy it. Exercise can be quite fun.

I started out at 230 also (I'm 5'8") and I'm down 65 lbs sofar with about 25 more to go. Feel free to add me if you like.

This is also excellent advice.

I'm sorry you're feeling down. Depression is a serious mental illness and often a barrier to making any real productive changes to your life, including exercising. If you can make time and energy to exercise, even if it's a long walk, it will help quite a bit. Wellbutrin, for me, was a life saver, quite literally. It has…

There are fundamentally 3 things you need to be successful with weight loss, regardless of whatever plan you want to use to get there. 1. Honesty. You need to be honest about your current habits and what you're willing to put into this. This also means honesty about logging your food, which includes being precise about…

How fantastic!! Congratulations!

For proteins, dark meat chicken (leg quarters with skin is very cheap and it's easy to remove skin if you don't want it) tends to be a lot cheaper by the pound than white breast meat. Whole chickens are cheap by the pound too. You could even get a whole turkey on sale, cook it, and freeze single or double servings. It…

$100-$200 per month for me $400-$600 for family of two adults and one toddler Sometimes I can spend less if I get good deals and buy in bulk. I also do some couponing.

That for sure. Sara is an inspiration to many.

I just made this but substituted a bag of frozen spinach for the peas. Comes to around 400 calories for a big serving. Would work well for lunch or dinner http://www.foodnetwork.com/recipes/food-network-kitchens/cheesy-gnocchi-casserole-with-ham-and-peas-recipe.html

You look amazing. I'm jealous of your quads especially! nice work!

I can easily down a 3,000 calorie thanksgiving. Mostly, because I really love mashed potatoes, gravy, and stuffing... and bread... and pie... and wine...

No one wants to date a "poor pitiful me" type no matter what size you are.

HAH!

Oddly enough, many of the people I know who are highly educated and very fact-based in other aspects of their life, are militantly defensive and unfliching when it comes to whatever food/health ideology they adhere to. Counterintuitively, in my experience, that ideology is almost always not in agreement with current…

I'm no longer pre-diabetic. Got my most recent blood test results yesterday!

Before: After: ~70 lbs lost for me.

Motivation is fleeting for all of us. I suggest instead, that you set some small goals to get yourself moving in the right direction. Start with daily goals. Set your calorie allotment via MFP, and plan your meals. Stick to it for one day then alternate days of planning with days of doing what you normally do. For the…
