I find that if I limit my food too much during the day, I’m ravenous for dinner, so I eat a good-sized breakfast and lunch, and then don’t go overboard at dinner. But it’s all what works for you! I also find that greater food variety helps me reduce my portions. So, 1/2 cup of oatmeal with apples and walnuts rather than 1…

My strategies are to have go-to things that I can pick up in the grocery store that are fast and healthy (for me, getting enough protein with a reasonable amount of calories) and single serve, or close to that—enough for a light meal if I go over with another meal that comes up. I keep a bunch of this kind of thing around.…

I had another sunny day for cross training on Sunday, a little warmer (at least until the sun went down!) on our bike ride. And then in the dark of yesterday morning I realized why taking the kids biking for 25 miles on the first day of DST was not such a hot idea—oof. Poor little guy, especially! Today I ran at a 10:00…

@MobyCarp what great pics and description! That looked freezing but beautiful... @Avidkeo omg, your cake! Soooo tasty looking! Gorgeous sunny run today, and I finally dressed appropriately, so that was much improved! I’m looking forward to this weekend and actually racing a 5K for the first time—I have run quite a few, but…

That sounds really really tough! It seems like talking through all of the issues with a counselor would be really worthwhile for your thinking about all of these decisions and for your healing more generally. Pregnancies can be taxing on mental health as well as physical health, and getting some more personal feedback and…

I am just training for my first HM in May, so I can’t speak to that piece, but I would’ve more worried about smoke for Bridge of the Gods than heat. August has been such a terrible month for fires for the past few years, and it’s made it tough to make major outdoor plans.

Sounds to me like OP is already a mom... and I don’t know that trying to preserve health gains with kid #2 is vain. But i agree with everyone that consulting with health care professionals about how much weight to shoot to gain is probably the way to go, and is based on current weight. Also, barring medically challenging…

@Elise4270 it’s great that you’re posting! I hope your healing is smooth and speedy. For the monthly question.. hmm.. I haven’t been at this so long yet, and don’t have super strong preferences except that I most suffer when I don’t wear a good running bra... so even though they are ridiculously priced ($70-$80 USD), I…

@shanaber I appreciate you all taking the hit with the rain for us, but I hope you don’t have to endure too much more! The sun keeps tricking me into underdressing, so I had a super chilly bike ride with my kids on Sunday, and a cold run today. Oops. And now I’m headed to a high school info session in my running clothes,…

Just found this group—woohoo! I’m in! Not so sure what that means, though :). I’ve been on MFP for some time (off and on), lost 20 lbs and maintained till I got back some months later, now I’m trying to lose the rest (maybe 25 more? I’m at 170, wanting to get to 145 or so) Mostly I post within the running groups—I’m not…

I’m training for my first half this May, and what helps me is logging the miles (just consistency in getting them in) and making sure to stay nice and slow for most of them. I’m using Hal Higdon’s plan, and there are more rest and cross training days there than I’d do left to my own devices. Also, the monthly running…

@rheddmobile That sure is one washed out trail! Good thing there was a detour in the works. @7lenny7 I love the brilliant sunshine in your photos! I got out for my first March run today, and it was lovely and sunny again, right around 50. There are some years where we don’t see the sun for weeks around this time, so I am…

I made 48 out of 40 for February, so I was just going to set my goal at 50 for March.... but then I looked more closely at the HM training plan, and it looks more like 60. So 60 miles it is!

@Scott6255 ack, those hands!! Got my last run in this evening, and all went well. I was pretty hungry because a nutty workday made me skimp on lunch, but my son is in an afternoon cooking club, and every Thursday he brings home treats, so at least I have plenty of calories left to spare for whatever they came up with.. but…

Dupe post!!

Lots of sunshine today, and Hal Higdon’s HM training plan gives the option of 2 mi or 30 min cross, so I stole away from work for a gorgeous lunchtime run. The conversation on this thread is a good reminder that I need to slow my easy runs down, though—so I’m grateful to all the experienced long distance runners for that!…

Somehow I fell hard about a half dozen times yesterday while snowboarding with my kids—I get busy watching them to give them tips and then catch an edge and thunk... so I set off on my run a bit sore in the neck today. But all seems ok, and it was a pretty evening. Snapped a photo of some houseboats for any Sleepless in…

I hope all the rest of the racing goes well this weekend, and congrats @MobyCarp for the 1st place AG finish, and to @martaindale for the 10K PR! I hit the ground running back at work this week, but have kept up the HM training plan—it’s still early (just finished week 3) but feeling doable, so I’m optimistic and planning…

I love to run on the rail trail that goes along two lakes and the Puget Sound in Seattle (the Burke-Gilman), but not during dark evenings, because it’s got major bike commuting traffic that gets a little intense. And I don’t find it safe enough to run at night after commuting time. So for three months (Nov-Jan) most of my…

@katharmonic Ouch! I hope the relaxants do their trick and you feel much better soon! Just finishing up my NYC/MA trip here, and I’m so pleased I managed to fit in an early 4.5 miles in Central Park on Saturday morning. It was cold but really lovely. And then I had a slush fest in MA this morning, but am still keeping up…

I made it off on my trip to the East coast, and got the treadmill miles in as soon as I got to my hotel, around 8 pm. Whew! Not sure exactly how I’ll get the next few runs in on this busy work trip/quick family visit, but one’s down! And then I decided I should try Shake Shack for dinner. Mmmm. February goal: 40 mi 2/2 5.1…

@7lenny7 It’s a half mile twisty steep hill that I aspire to run up one day!! Would make for great repeats for a ridiculously grueling time of it (to me!) The only catch for its sledding charms is the stuck Prius that’s been fully blocking the road for 2 days..
-
@shanaber I hope your daughter can get to work soon—maybe today! This has been really rough on anyone whose income depends on being able to get anywhere (or have others get places!) @7lenny7 Yes, the produce aisles were totally bare! More snow days here, but I went to work yesterday despite it being closed—one bus route is…

Wow, @garygse what an amazing race—can’t wait to hear about it! And congrats on the PR, @greyparks206! The duathalon sounded really great (and tough), @ddmom0811. I loved reading the report. And wow, @JulieS3103 what an improvement over last year’s time! We are buried in snow here in Seattle, and the city’s pretty shut…

Ack, just lost my post! Retyping.. @shanaber Thanks so much for this! We really have an embarrassment of riches here, and mostly I’ve only run 5Ks with my kids, their choice. The Magnuson series is super convenient for me, though, so I’ve done one of those 10Ks. The Vancouver half is pretty motivating for me right now,…

I know this thread has been beaten to death, but.... one more thought. My family that I live with are split between food moderators and food abstainers in our search for healthy choices. I track my food regularly and fall into the moderator approach. When others in my family might suddenly decide that something is…

I think making a polite request for family/housemates to consider—maybe for a limited time—and then being open to their responses and perspectives is better than setting rules for other adults to adhere to and calling them rude if they don’t. I’m confused about why thinking of the donuts as “MIL’s” food doesn’t really…

Feb goal: 40 mi 2/2 5.1 mi 2/4 3.1 mi (post-snowboarding!) Feb total: 8.2 mi 2019 races: 5/5 Vancouver BMO half marathon? @sarahthes I’m getting firmer in the plan to run the Vancouver half, and working on enlisting some other friends to join in—thanks for the note!! We had a surprise snow day today, and I spent a huge…

Feb goal: 40 mi 2/2 5.1 mi @garygse Thanks for the Strava link! I joined the group—somehow I have to link my MFP handle to my name there, but I’m in! This group has got me charged up enough so that I’m now thinking about the Vancouver half marathon the first weekend of May... hmm. I think the timing may be right. I’m going…
