Thanks for the link! Am hoping it works in New Zealand!

Thanks for a helpful reply. I'm going to seek out that documentary as I don't understand the whole 'low carb advantage' either...

I bumped my calories by about 200-300 calories a day in my last five pounds or so. Don't know if it made a difference, though, as I was so nervous about the sudden bump in cals that I also bumped up my cardio by about twice the amount per day. Therefore, am still slowly losing. Am thinking that trading a cardio day or two…

Bump for more responses!

I will be trying this... great variation on the original, and a good use for eggplant! Thanks.

That sounds terrific... a layer of thick Greek yoghurt (possibly flavoured with spices) would also be good in this dip!

Bump to keep the recipes coming! I like to bring (tried to include recipes to all suggestions): Asparagus spears wrapped in pancetta (can quickly pop into the oven at the locale) http://www.fatsecret.com/recipes/pancetta-wrapped-asparagus-spears/Default.aspx A side of smoked salmon sliced over a bed of lettuce and…

[/quote] QUOTE: I know that's true for my residents in the nursing home who are in their 80's and 90's, partially because they don't get much, if any activity. But for us, still out working, exercising etc. I would think we still need the rest. You hear about sleep cycles, REM sleep and needing this to feel rested. I…

Bump for more replies to the HRM question... if the HRM is strapped to your chest, monitoring how fast your heart is beating for your weight, height, age and gender, wouldn't it be the most accurate estimate of caloric burn available to the average person? My HRM shows different caloric burns depending on how fast and far…

Now I'm confused... one g of protein per pound is significantly more than one g of protein per kg. I'm 65 kg=65 g protein per day, but in pounds that is 145= 145 g protein per day. Which is recommended maintaining muscle whilst losing weight?

For me, preparation is everything. I tend to get hungry suddenly, then I want to eat within fifteen minutes! I try to fit as many high-volume, low-calorie veggies into my meals as possible; i.e. I will steam up a bunch of cauliflower, then chop it up and put it under my rice in a meal, or mix it into spaghetti sauces,…

I've lost plenty, more than half of it using the rebounder alone. I love that I can walk, jog, or "jump rope" on it. I use a Polar Fit HRM when I work out to judge my calorie burn. Other posters have mentioned the many other benefits of rebounding. I got mine used (it is a mid-quality one with plenty of give), and could…

I am just moving into maintenance, and my most successful MFP maintainer friends continue to log daily. Not all of them keep their diaries open, but they want to keep a firm awareness of calories in and out. I plan on continuing to log in maintenance for quite a while (at least a year if not more). Plus, it's just nice…

First of all, congratulations on your weight loss! It is a huge accomplishment, and is a physical step on your journey to a new stage of your life. Well done! Some people have not yet developed the emotional maturity to truly be happy for the successes of others, particularly when those successes force them (as your visual…

Love travel cooking ideas. The soy would have added a bit of flavour. Are you saying that you cooked the chicken on the hot water heater while it was still in the bag?

I used this soap on my DRY skin (and I drink heaps of water, but just have extremely dry skin) and it literally transformed it within a couple of days. It's all natural, has aloe vera, and MSM sulphur. I've never had any soap penetrate and soften my skin like this stuff. Of course, after I wash with it, I lightly pat my…

Payday--a great game where you got to do "fun" things like pay bills, save money, invest, and get paychecks. The runner-up would definitely be The Game Of Life where you get a car straight away, then get to choose an education and/or career path, and build up a nice little family as you cruise through "life". Third place…

I live alone as well, and like you I don't buy bacon because it goes bad before I can eat it all. LOVE this BLT idea (I always have the Real Bacon Bits in the fridge) and will absolutely give this idea a go... brilliant! Thank you!

Thanks for this tip... I'll be trying it. I read on Pinterest that adding Baking Powder to the water makes them easier to peel, but I have had no luck with that method. I boil up six to eight eggs at a time, and leave them in the shell in a ziptop baggie in the door of the fridge so they don't get mixed up with my raw…

I love that minor annoyances (like having to walk a distance to get something I forgot on the first trip) now feel like free opportunities to work out!

I have a "tricky knee" that is easy to injure... I have found my rebounder (mini-trampoline) to be amazing for cardio. I walk on it, I jog on it, I even "jump rope" on it, and it absorbs nearly all of the impact. I wear a Heart Rate Monitor whilst using it, and get well and truly within my zone ( I like to work out at…

I eat plenty of healthy fats from nuts, avocado, etc., and I primarily eat the thighs of chicken (don't like the breast). My favourite fish is Pacific salmon, the "fattiest" kind. When I desire butter taste, I use a small amount of real butter. I do tend to eat lowfat dairy because I read somewhere that the calcium content…

I live in New Zealand as well. Pick up a copy of the little magazine called "New Zealand Healthy Food Guide" at the grocery store. It has wonderful recipes, and classifies them by categories (GF, Low KJ/cal, Low Sodium, High Calcium, etc.). Plus, everything they list is in season (late spring going into summer for us).…

I'm 47 and live in a remote area, so I work out at home. I have an array of DVD workouts ranging from yoga to weights (dumbbells), aerobic dance, with some Jillian Michaels workouts I have not worked myself up to yet! I have a rebounder/minitrampoline which I use with my Polar FT4 Heartrate monitor. it is great as I can…

Oh yeah! Always looking for new ways to cook with protein powder! Love how you added almonds, too. Thanks!
