  • It could quiet possibly be my blood sugar, I think I should go have a general checkup… For the last 6 weeks or so I've been on a higher calorie diet to gain muscle, and like I said, I've seen great progress. Of course, with that came a bit of fat, as expected. Now I just want to do a month or so of cutting (maybe more/less…
  • Great idea! Maybe I'll join a bodybuilding website and ask about cutting there..! Thanks!
  • Good to know, maybe it's just my age. My hormones might just be a bit crazy at this point haha
  • As I said in the edit, I'm probably closer to 116 lbs, I converted in wrong from kgs! Thanks for your concern. (: But honestly, I'm not doing it to be dangerously thin or anything, I just want to lower my body fat %
  • I want to lose fat but gain muscle! Although I'm far from being overweight, my main goal is to increase muscle mass whilst decreasing body fat %
  • Sorry, with all due respect, what's your point? I don't think you understand the question…
  • I'm 5'4 and went from 140 to 110 by severely limiting my calories and no exercise! I looked terrible and was starving myself. After finally deciding to get healthy rather than skinny I've gained five pounds and dropped two pant sizes (by strength training). The problem was when I was starving myself I was losing all my…
  • Where I live there are no free refills or jumbo meals and there's a lot less processed crap, and I'm grateful for it. Bread is fresh from the bakery and the cheese and meat is local. I just don't see why North Americans have to make everything bigger. I'm from Canada but have grown up in Europe. Here people view the North…
  • As a vegetarian I eat 2-3 eggs a day and have greek yogurt with protein powders on training days! (:
  • Completely agree with everyone else. Don't try and compensate. If it helps, I had a terrible week (and a half!) as well diet wise! Don't worry too much about it! If you think about it, in a year from now, when you're healthier and have moved on to other things will you really be saying "Oh my god, it was that one week that…
  • I owe a huge part of my success and motivation to this website: http://www.nerdfitness.com/blog/2014/01/14/strength-training-101-where-do-i-start/ Don't have time to explain about it but I thought I had to answer because it's really a great, easy to understand website (:
  • For who's body? I'm 163cm and weigh 52kg and my minimum is 1300 and that's if I lie in bed doing nothing all day. Throw in exercise and someone my height and weight can't survive on 1200 a day! Also, IMO even that number is too low, as it doesn't account for muscle mass.
  • I cut out all the sugar in my diet and replaced it with crack. I've lost 30lbs in one month ;) Haha in all seriousness, I think this sugar debate all cones down to personal opinion. I cut white sugar out of my diet for the most part. But every once and a while, I'll have a bar of chocolate or a slice of cake.. But again,…
  • Haha with all the comments I think you know what it is! But I have to say, even though none of it's actual fat loss, it's always incredibly satisfying. Like this morning, I woke up with a bit of a hangover and the memory of having stuffed myself silly with pizza and Easter chocolate the night before. Although I don't feel…
  • Personally I don't go by weight anymore. In the last 3months I've dropped two pant sizes yet have gained 2kilos (around 5pounds) due to weight training. But when I used to weigh myself I noticed that daily changes could be 1-2kilos and I could gain a whole 4kilos around my time of month! Best way is to weigh yourself a lot…
  • Sure, it depends on the person, but I agree that in general, 1200 is not nearly enough, especially if you're active. If you're interested, here's an open letter by a personal diet and fitness trainer at a weight loss clinic to her clients. She talks about how the 1200cal diet isn't enough yet we're all convinced that it's…
  • I just discovered something that has definitely helped with my snacking and general fat loss! Intermittent fasting (: I'm sure you've heard of it loads of times before, but I'll just briefly outline what it is... There are many different methods, but my favorite, because it's convenient, is the 18/6 method (variation of…
  • Wow, I didn't think this would start such a heated debate. I just want to make a couple things clear... I love my body, I love being healthy and I feel totally sexy. But I'm sure everyone can understand those days where you look in the mirror and think "This is NOT what I was hoping to see..." That happens to the best of…
  • I agree, 46 grams is low if you do your research... "The RDA is 0.8 grams per kilogram of lean bodyweight (U.S. Food and Nutrition Board, 1980) for sedentary adults. (...) Exercise adds a new dimension to the issue (...) Recent research shows that the RDA doesn't appear to meet the needs of exercising adults." Read more:…
  • Out of fear of getting "bulky" and "looking like a man". You can thank the media for that.
  • Haha good to know! I spent 15 minutes in the bathroom after the workout with my head in the toilet just in case I threw up x) I didn't, luckily. Sorry for that mental image haha
  • Awesome, thanks! Could you give me an estimate of the amount of calories I would need per day? (Assuming I don't take a rest day)
  • IMO if you're looking for optimal fat loss, weight training is the way to go. But if you just want to exercise and enjoy running, then there is no reason you shouldn't. It just depends what your goals and preferences are. I don't enjoy running, so I won't. Some people do enjoy it, so they will. It's as simple as that.
  • Very sore :p I think I'll give today a miss. It's not as if I'm completely inactive anyway, I walk my dog for a couple of hours every day in the forest! Thanks, everyone. Will definitely try swimming after weight sessions!
  • Awesome, thanks! Will try the 5x5 and tweak my workout sessions according to the progress I'm making! (:
  • My goal really is to build muscle. I'm female, 5'4 and 110lbs. So I'm really not looking to lose weight, I know I need to put on weight and fat to build muscle. I'm not looking for the perfect body and I haven't got a precise goal. I just want to feel and look stronger!
  • Yeah, full body some I'm sore all over! Should I train one specific area and change every day?
  • Thanks, I'll figure out my body fat percentage and work from there! :)
