  • Why would the OP do overhead presses if they weren't at all interested in strength? I am not talking about your goals because, frankly, I could not possibly care less about what your goals are. I am talking about the OP's goals; and the OP is lifting weights, not diving.
  • Diving is a far cry from being strong so your analogy was really just an immature hyperbole. There is a good reason for cleaning the bar. Having a power clean that is equal to your overhead press insures that you have the ability to apply that overhead pressing power in a real life situation. Outside of the gym, you need…
  • That says more about the caliber of your competition than it does about the sports. 15 minutes in a ring with a difficult to handle boxer is hell. 15 minutes in a court with a difficult to handle tennis player is a lot of the ball getting hit out of the court but you never got punched in the face. It is demoralizing and…
  • Spend 15 minutes in a ring with a seasoned boxer and then spend 15 minutes on the court with a seasoned tennis player and then we'll see if you have that same opinion. Lol
  • I kind of understand where you're coming from. I'm a Neurophysiologist and I used to compete in powerlifting but recently swapped over to MMA. People do think it's kind of weird, I'm not the kind of guy they are expecting to see when they go to the doctor's office. I wouldn't say that I get a lot of negative feedback…
  • But you don't necessarily know who's waiting for the squat rack because they are probably off doing something else while waiting. You might think that guy doing lunges on the other end of the weight room just wanted to do some lunges but actually he's just keeping himself busy while you are improperly using the equipment…
  • The big problem with doing presses out of any sort of rack is that, eventually, you will be able to press more than you can clean which is obviously weak sauce. Just clean the bar and press it over your head. You're in the gym to do work anyway so just do the work!
  • Just clean the bar.
  • That is kind of true, actually, but it is also kind of not true. Men possess higher levels of testosterone and hgh which increase satellite cell formation and protein synthesis but women have less muscle tissue to repair. Usually this winds up in the woman's favor in terms of recovery time except for in the case of really…
  • It sounds like 1 of 2 things is going on here. Either you have exercise induced acid reflux or you may be going into ketosis and getting that nasty, metallic tasting breath that comes along with it. Are you eating carbohydrates?
  • I recently lost 60lbs and added 200lbs to my total in a year. This was already at a point where I had been lifting for several years and had a masters level total so it was pretty hard to do. The best advice that I can give you is to not lift with too much volume and to not neglect your conditioning work. Just as an…
  • Weight lifting, conditioning, muay thai and bjj are my methods of training. They do help to relieve stress but sex is much more effective IMO
  • There are a million different spreadsheets you can find online. It really just depends on what program you want to run.
  • Calorie burn doesn't necessarily correlate with fat lost.
  • That doesn't actually sound like you're doing HIIT at all. If you can perform an activity for 8 minutes straight, I think it's safe to say that it is being done at a relatively low intensity. For HIIT, you want to remain (mostly) in anaerobic metabolic systems while exerting yourself. It would actually be pretty hard to…
  • Do you have diabetes?
  • The Femoral Nerve runs right next to the inguinal crease and innervates the quad. It may have been damaged during the surgery or have scar tissue that has built up and is now putting pressure on it.
  • You won't build any noticeable amount of muscle mass while training for a marathon. You need to pick building muscle or running a marathon. You cannot serve 2 masters.
  • If the fascia is ruptured (herniation) then you can't fix it with exercise and surgery is your only choice. If the fascia hasn't ruptured you can slowly build the abdominals and it may tighten up some. Emphasis on "slowly", the fascia being stretched out means it is now thinner and more vulnerable to rupture.
  • I don't use a lot of dumbbell exercises because I have Olympic dumbbell handles so changing the weight is a PITA. When I use them, I like to do Kroc Rows, DB Snatches and 1 Arm DB Push Presses.
  • ^this. If you want more glute and hamstring involvement then do wide stance, low bar squats as deep as you can without your lower back rounding. Throw in some romanian deadlifts and glute bridges and you'll have a kadungadunk in no time.
  • There's really no reason to pull sumo unless you are planning on competing in powerlifting.
  • 20 minutes isn't very long. Most kickboxing classes are 1-2 hours.
  • Think of it this way. If you slam on the gas in a Honda Civic until you red line the engine you will use less gasoline than if you slam on the gas in a Ford F-150 until you red line the engine. Even though they did the same thing and they both gave out the same amount of perceived exertion, the one with the bigger, more…
  • If you use weightlifting straps you will never build up your grip. OP, your grip can be trained almost everyday. Just end each training session with something grip specific and try to use a lot of lifts that exhaust your grip during your lifting (dumbbell rows, barbell rows, shrugs, deadlifts, Romanian deadlifts, Pull ups,…
  • That really depends on how big you are, how efficiently you perform the techniques, how heavy your training partner is and what you are doing (drilling vs randori vs rolling). There is really no way to tell.
  • Cross your leg over your knee and roll your buttcheek around on a baseball. If you do it a couple times a day, everyday, it will subside pretty quickly.
  • If you are using dumbbells you can swing them backward and then use the momentum to curl them up to your shoulders. Watch videos of strongmen getting the circus dumbbell up to their shoulder.
  • Have a beer in the shower
