I argee with wolfman, how you act and feel about yourself gets more response than your appearance. When you feel confident in your appearance and feelings, it shows to people who notice. When you are embarrased and depressed about yourself, that comes out too.

I recommend finding a running group through a shoe store and find others at your level. There is great motivation in numbers. And like another suggestion, set a goal race with friends to work towards. Exercising by yourself, just for the sake of doing it usually leads to burnout.

An Entry from the blog of T.A.P.S. (Tragedy Assistance Program for Survivors): Take nothing but memories. It’s a universal truth that when we die, we take nothing earthly with us. Not even memories. They get left behind, swiftly gobbled up by survivors, hungry for comfort food. While it’s true that my memories with Michael…

When my son was killed, my remaining daughters moved back to Alaska where they had spent their childhood together. I have been here in Oklahoma since, helping my father with the remaining years of his business. Looking back, I think I may have made a mistake not moving up there with them. For the loneliness and isolation…

For 3 years I was mad at God. Then finally realized that God didn't kill my son. Started to turn morning of his death to a celebration of his life. Birthdays, DOD, everything was turned around to deciding to celebrate him.

I've done 2 cycles of INSANITY. I'm 55. Without question, the hardest workout I've done yet. But I saw more body changes in the 60 days, (also lost 20 lbs) than I did running 1,200 miles in a year. I will try to do it at least twice a year. To me, it was well worth it. But it's not for everybody.

P90X3 INCINERATOR, 36 Burpees

No, but looks like one I need to read. Been waiting to watch the movie until I read the book first. Just like Marathons. I'm sure you've heard it a thousand times, but it's very true. Marathons are 90% mental.

Back in 2011, at 52, I did a burpee mile. Now, if I get through the 100 burpee challenge without any problems, I'm considering another one. The top Navy Seal fitness instructor said once that the body can do 20x what the mind thinks it can do. I find setting goals, maybe ones that might seem impossible at the time you set…

Excellent Kimfierro, I'm doing the P90X3 program too! I'm in week 8 of the lean option. I find I have to set goals out in front of me in order to continue to workout, run, and exercise. Without the goal races, fitness programs, or fitness achievements, I tend to do nothing. P90X3 has exposed my weak areas, so I focus in…

Kimfierro, I have completed 7 marathons, and about a dozen 1/2 marathons. Exercise has become a way to deal with my isolation and grief. For when I kick my own butt, a lot of problems seem to go away.

The journey of grief is different for each person, even different from husband and wife. Don't expect him to understand yours, as you cannot identify with the pain he feels. Just accept that the death of a child is far worse than anything previous. Don't understand it, don't think of it as something you will get over. For…

Glad I found this group. I seem to use exercise and workout programs to try to offset the demons while on this journey of Grief I have been placed on. My son was killed while serving in the Army with a tour in Iraq back in 2006. People can't believe some of the extreme fitness stuff I've done. But they don't understand…
