No advice since I'm just now beginning to try and lose again. My little guy is 9 months and mostly just breastfeeding along with some foods. I'm also 5'7, starting goal of 150! Can I add you as a friend? I was 172 prepregnancy, 202 highest pregnant. Got to 182, now back to 195. Meanwhile my husband was without a job for…

If you're starting out into fitness, general guidelines are very helpful. You don't start out knowing your body, your limits, what works and what doesn't - all that is gained from experience. You have to start somewhere and it's very helpful to know at least where to aim. If you're more experience and don't find the method…

Thanks, the number guidelines are very helpful to me!

The sad truth is, many of our bodies DO spot reduce... We just don't get to choose the spots. Where ever your specific body tends to gain first is typically where it will tend to lose last. If your body isn't losing weight in the arms yet, you just have to continue losing fat. It'll happen. :)

The one thing I'd like to add, is that I'd like you to recognize your minimizing language. Not every day, once in awhile, everybody has fat days, everyone has a disordered relationship with food, I'm better than before, today was a little easier, balanced/managed as well as can be. You're dedicating a lot of your language…

I thought a sweatband was a headband made of absorbent cloth to soak up forehead sweat. No?

You need to be weighing your portions anyway if you expect to log your food with any accuracy. So weigh it, log it, then eat it. From a mental aspect it helps me to change the way I think. Like this... "Don't waste food" - - - "I already purchased the food either way and that won't change. Now will I use the food to get…

I just try to be open about my own journey. I talk about portions, how much I burned in an exercise, how I feel about healthy foods, instead of just saying I don't want another serving I say "No thanks, I feel full" because listening to the body is important, or instead of saying no to dessert I say "I'm all out of…

Hmm, my comment was partially eaten by the internet... Baby is 9 months and 19 lbs, nurses 7-8 times in each 24 hour period, eats some other foods but is more of a grazer. Calorie ideas? I'm wanting to track food and pick up a kettle bell! Has anyone else used kettle bells? Or actually lost baby weight? Haha. Please feel…

I'm nursing my 9 month old and just starting to track again. I lost 20 lbs after birth, but gained 15 back over the past six months

You're getting lots of good tips about exercise and I don't have much to add since that's a tough area for me. However I DID want to comment on another issue you mentioned in your post - motivation and talking yourself out of things. I think a lot about the mental battles we have with ourselves, and how we can overcome…

Thanks for the tips! I'll look into the Chalean Extreme and Lindsay Brin. I already own 30 Day Shred so that one will be free for me! :) I'm actually about to pop it in and see if I can do it with modifications. My arms really need some help this summer but I'm not sure I'll be able to make a difference during pregnancy?…

Ouch, I can see how that would cause problems :) I thought about seeing my chiro, because he's fabulous and can fix almost anything, but it's $55/visit so I was hoping to avoid that. :-/ I could see if there's any good ones for cheaper I suppose. We're a single income household so I try to save where I can. Obviously…

I found this to be MUCH too tart. Anyone else? Next time I'd use half as much lime juice, and/or add another flavor to cut it a bit. The tips on how to cook the chicken were spot on and resulted in nicely browned thoroughly cooked pieces, so I appreciated that! :) I served it on a bed of Chipotle-style cilantro lime rice,…

I don't have that problem, but I do always get the sneezes after I work out. I feel like everyone else in the gym will think I have a cold and am spreading germs! Haha. I hope your doctor has some good advice for you!

No explanation, but suggestion! I don't like regular scrambled eggs. Not my thing. But if I cut up bacon into little pieces and cook that in a pan, then add eggs and scramble them, it's totally yummy. I'm not sure if it's a texture or taste thing but that's the only way I can enjoy scrambled eggs!

So I did my first workout with 5x5 today!! I was pleasantly shocked that I could row and bench the 45lb bar, for all sets and reps! So happy :D Doing the bench press made me feel a kink in my lower back though. I think I arched too much? For the last set I had hubby put plates under my feet so I could push from my feet and…

This thread has given me all kinds of ideas.... like if anyone ever said I was pregnant and rubbed my belly, I would just start rubbing theirs right back. Or if they asked when I was due I'd say 2017, how about you? And next time someone says I don't need to lose weight I'll whip out my belly pudge for all to see and make…

I think one of the most consistent awkward comments I receive, and I hear about my mom, is "You don't need to lose weight!" What am I supposed to say? "No really, I'm a lot fatter than I look"? "Just because I'm not as heavy as you are doesn't mean I'm healthy"? I feel like that comment often comes from people who are…

Mark Sisson, author of the Primal Blueprint, suggests that 50-100g of carbs per day puts you in the effortless weight loss zone. So personally when I'm trying to be "low carb", I shoot for less than 100g. Everyone has a different definition. Less than 25g though? That's keto.

I sacrificed comfort - turns out, only working out when you feel like it doesn't end up in very many workouts. And I definitely don't feel like running in the cold dark evenings! I sacrificed laziness. I sacrificed (still working on it) self-consciousness! It's hard to get into the free weight section alone. I sometimes…

As with all relationship issues, I'm an advocate of honest, gracious communication! If I were in your shoes, I would gently tell my folks that I love eating out with them but it's uncomfortable for me when they comment negatively on my food choices and try to get me to order specific things. I'd ask if they have any…

I used to love biking and hate running! If there's something you actually enjoy, do that instead. Just being active is what's important. Do you like tennis? Swimming? Playing fetch with your dog? Frisbee? Find something that gets you to move, but leaves you smiling. That said, I "used to" hate running. Then my hubby said…

Saradord, a lot of women that lift don't do any cardio. Personally I'm about to start 5x5, and on the inbetween days I'm going to continue doing about 30 min of cardio as I work my way through the Couch to 5k program.
-
That is the exact reason why I'm going to start 5x5 instead of NROLW. I tried New Rules of Lifting for Women but it was so complicated I had a hard time working out unless my hubby followed me around with a notebook. I felt like a goofball. And I had to write out everything beforehand which added more time to my fitness…

I got measured at Victoria's Secret and ended up with a size I was satisfied with - in other words, that size seems to fit just fine. I don't even know where any lingerie stores are near me, but now I kind of want to go to one and see if I'm in the right size...

Don't worry, there is no such thing as an unhealthy amount of muscle. Seriously! Muscle is never bad for your health, that I know of. Yes it's dense so it might put you over some arbitrary weight limit, but your weight does not matter AT ALL if you are LEAN. Excess fat is unhealthy! Extra muscle increases your metabolism,…

I'm glad to hear all of the positive responses! I used mine a few times and then stopped. I think I'll try it again!

I appreciate your experience and advice, thank you!! I'm glad you took the time to write a note. The pain is not crazy, it's mild. ONE time it was pretty bad, and that was after running in my VFFs for the first (and last) time. Most of the time it's a mild, sometimes moderate discomfort. Not sharp at all and doesn't get in…

Duly noted, thank you! I'll just jump right into my schedule with the new shoes once I get them. :) I'm going to continue using my old shoes until I get new ones. The discomfort is mild and not worth losing progress on my newly forming habit, for me! I will, however, quit wearing them around town like I did before. The…
