  • It's totally arbitrary in my opinion. Some mornings I've had barely any sleep and woke up lighter, some mornings I lie in and wake up heavier.
  • That's cool. I use Strava for Running and Cycling, but when it imports the data, MFP overrides the Calorie output and it is WAY higher than Strava suggests. Especially for Cycling. Just for my own sanity, I use the lower, Strava estimate.
  • Great story sir! Many congratulations.

  • Ja that's my understanding pretty much. For me, I feel better, less hungry, less bloated when I don't eat Junk foods. It's also more expensive, I sleep less well, I sweat more etc. etc. I'm not "eating clean" to the extreme, but the more fresh vegetables and whole grains the better. It also fills you up better than Junk…
  • That's a difficult one. Depends on the Coffee for example. I typically drink 3 Americanos (black) a day at work, and don't log it. Because without milk or sugar, it's not far off being just water. And I drink enough water to stay hydrated in any case. Lucozade / Diet Coke etc. are tough because although they may have 0…
  • Thanks :) I think I'm going to throw in a few of those high calorie, high exercise days and see if I see any changes or if it's difficult etc.
  • Lots and lots and lots now. Chicken, Turkey, and Egg Whites are a big part of my diet. In fact, I find that my portion sizes are huge, because I'm eating A LOT of good protein and fresh vegetables :)
  • I guess "too much" to lose is so subjective though. I am still looking at another 32lbs (because ideally I want to be at a maintenance of 182 lbs).
  • 214lbs, I was 228lbs. 2lbs a week isn't too taxing at the moment, but I know down the line I won't be able to sustain that rate of loss. I'm aiming for 2lbs a week for the next 3, then I'm going to give myself a bit more leeway and ramp it down until I'm at maintenance. My overall goal is 182lbs, 32lbs off.
  • I'm surprised that a lot of the advice I receive on here is that 2lbs a week in my situation is not a healthy weight loss!
  • Yeah? I'm on a mix of Cardio (running/cycling) and Resistance, but mainly cardio to begin with. Averaging somewhere between 800-1500 calories out a day from Cardio, and not logging Resistance calories because I'm just not sure how to accurately! Perhaps I'll mix it up, and do regime B for 4/5 days a week, and regime A for…
  • Hi guys, Thanks for your responses. I am looking to achieve fitness goals as well as lose the weight, and I'm currently 214lbs (was 228lbs), 5ft 10, 23 Male. I have spoken to my doctor, and she is happy with a 2lb a week weight loss, on average (taking into account the inevitable plateaus etc.
  • Well done, and such a great show
  • One of the best posts I've seen on here since I joined.
  • Sounds good. I did that for 3 weeks, and then the weight didn't come off as fast. A small adjustment to 40/30/30 on the macros and incorporating the odd longer jog helped me continue at 2.5lbs a week.
  • Friday pour moi. I tend to have a beer on the weekends so it's good psychologically for me to weigh myself after 5 days of healthy eating and exercise.
  • That sounds great, however in my experience a small, healthy 200cals breakfast can do WONDERS for hunger control later in the day. As well as boosting metabolism, energy levels in the morning etc. I used to skip it, but now I incorporate it and take some cals away from my dinner allowance.
  • Turkey Breast is has a fantastic lack of fat/high in protein ratio :)
  • Yeah, sorry I kind of hijacked the thread for my own purposes. I want to lose approx. 30lbs, and tone and build at the same time/afterwards. So a different situation. Have you tried doing some cardio in there as well, could help stop the unwanted bulk?
  • The Quaker Oats 30% less fat one is decent, although not sure of Sugar content. I have it with 0% fat Greek style yoghurt and occasionally a bit of honey. Top snack.

  • Could you go on a primarily fat burning diet and clear up the excess fat before moving onto heavy resistance to begin building muscle?
  • All the best. I'm looking to do 35. It's all about sustainability. I've dropped 5lbs and put on 5lbs and dropped 5lbs and put on 5lbs COUNTLESS times because it just wasn't a sustainable program.
  • Thanks guys! I used to fail because of my shortsightedness and focus on short term goals, but I guess it doesn't really matter when I eat the calories, because over the days, weeks and months, it's just the average that counts!
  • I wish you all the best with your program! I guess a better phrase is "right foods for the right person". I just know I couldn't eat that sort of stuff in a controlled manner, so I applaud you that you can!
  • It's a shame that people are so defensive on here sometimes. I only posted what works for me. And if you read what I said, I did not call cardio a necessity. I said it CAN make a huge difference. If I burn 500cals a day through cardio, I could in theory drop a lb a week (very rough theory, of course). Again, perhaps I…
  • Of course sir! I know a lot of people that don't do Cardio and lose a shed load of fat. And, also, a lot of people that don't do resistance and still lose. It can be done any of the 3 ways. No cardio, no resistance or even none of either. Personally, 500cals a day out from a mixture of high intensity and low intensity…
  • I must say, I have to disagree here. In my experience, a good mix of cardio and resistance can make a HUGE difference to a fat loss program. I would however agree that cutting down calories, eating the right foods, and limiting sugar and carb intake to sensible amounts is STEP ONE. STEP TWO, is adding an exercise regime to…
  • Okay, thanks for your help. Perhaps a 900 calorie deficit is rather high in retrospect, as I only consider myself about 50lbs overweight tops.
  • In my humble opinion, that sounds like an overcompensation to me. How about eating your normal target of 1500, and exercising for an hour? :) Lots of water will help the day after a cheat day. Yesterday I had 2800cals, including a couple of beers. I felt awful at the time, but have come to terms with it being in the past…
  • I've always eaten a ridiculously high calorie diet, from my early teens through until now. However, from 13-18 I used to bike 5 miles a day, play Football (Soccer) at least twice a week, and, importantly practice Karate at a VERY high level at least 4 times a week. I reckon I must have been burning at the rate a…
