  • Outdoor pool has opened here in Tasmania so am back in the outdoor swimming. Ironically it was the coldest weather for awhile (pool's heated though, Tasmania is colder than the rest of Australia). I am currently doing 3kms/60 laps 2 days on/1 day off. As I was getting a bit fatigued. Love the outdoor swim after a winter…
  • Mindfulness is probably the simplest way I can put it. I stick to my eating plan. Find an eating plan that you are happy with, get on with it and familiar before you start this more stressful time. Stick to the plan. Mine is sticking to my calorie goals for my weight loss and keeping junk food to a minimum. I have the odd…
  • I find that chlorine does leach colour out of hair. It has been suggested to me to immerse my hair in conditioner before putting on my bathing cap, which I do - for me its to protect my poor hair which got brittle. For hair dye I would think if the hair is already saturated with conditioner the chlorine can't 'get in' as…
  • I was in your shoes up until a year ago. Its the all or nothing principle - recognize that your thinking is part of the problem and ignore it. - A slip is a slip, just get back on the horse. - What you actually learnt from those couple of things at that party was that they weren't as wonderful as you thought they were…
  • I haven't posted here before I don't think. But I did swim today 3kms/ 60 laps freestyle in around 78 minutes today.
  • Your probably should set your weight loss at a much lower rate ie .5 to 1lb per week. You don't have much to lose and it would be effective to lose it slowly as you would then probably keep it off. Eat back some of your exercise calories is also a good plan.
  • Your BMI indicates that a 5 kilo loss would put you in the normal range. Its not a huge amount and I think getting it off slowly is better in the long run.- it tends to stay off rather than losing it quickly and yo-yoing. Calculate your TDEE and eat 10% below - thats just a suggestion or whatever you want. Dropping your…
  • Congratulations. I've yo-yoed before as most probably have. The best thing is you haven't given up! There is a significant difference in your photos! You look gorgeous!
  • People really started noticing big time at over 50lbs lost. The odd observant friend noticed before. It takes a big change for self absorbed people to notice ie most of the people in your life.
  • MAINTAINING!!!! Thats what its all about! Thankyou.
  • Thank you so much for this posting! Its great to see all the photos. I hope to do open water swimming sometime - thanks for showing me that its possible  .
  • I use swimming as my only exercise. My L) knee will need replacing and I find swimming the only sensible way for me to exercise. I couldn't even swim one lap when I started back in the pool (after 40 years of never swimming a lap) in January. http://swimming.about.com/od/sampleswimworkouts/a/8_week_plan.htm This guys web…
  • They play under-water hockey here in Australia. I couldn't even begin to imagine how difficult it is. They train at my pool and I know the underwater players because they often have one big long fin on and swim the entire length of the 50 mt pool under water! I haven't seen a game played though.
  • I'm from Oz and we talk kilometres so I swim 2500 metres (50 metre pool) which is 1.55 miles it takes me 70 minutes. I'm in Tasmania which is right down the bottom of Australia and our pools are heated all year round - cause its chillier here than the rest of Oz - the ocean is often very cold even in summer. I am pretty…
  • I swim in a 50 metre indoor pool in winter and in summer I often go to an outdoor pool for a change. I find its easy to do the lengths and easy to count 50 laps = 2.5kms. I think I might get dizzy in a smaller pool with all the turns!
  • I think the same as above. The measurement thing sounds like a good idea. I have plateaued and slowed my weight loss recently. Sometimes my own thinking just wants me to fail. I can say that what keeps me going is that giving up and eating like a mad woman isn't going to fix anything. Weigh and measure your food keep a…
  • I swim most days - 5-6 times a week, since January - When I couldn't even make 25mts before flipping onto my back and gasping. My endurance has increased gradually over time and I now freestyle (crawl) 2.5kms (50 laps) in 5 sets of 10 laps continuously. I am very pleased with my progress as I have always been a very lazy…
  • 12 metre pools pretty small. Fins are definitely worth it for getting your legs stronger and I found they made me work them (legs) as I was more aware of them. I think they're great.
  • I swim regularly. Its my only form of exercise as I have L knee problems (ie its gone basically and I will have to have a replacement one day). I can walk on it etc. but could not do much other exercise. I was like you in that I swam when I was a teenager and then basically didn't swim a lap for 40 years. I got back in the…
  • Great plan Maria! I have around 20kgs to go (approx. 44lbs) so we have similar goals. I started swimming at the beginning of February and now exercise regularly. Its they way to go. Find something you enjoy!
  • My problem with food is was and always will be that I want to eat more than I need to survive. I'm 55, I'm losing weight now because I realised that my health was more important than oral gratification. I wanted to stop the consequences of over-eating all my life - RATHER THAN STOP THE OVER-EATING. I have a very poor…
  • Glad you are back keep having a go. Do what others above have suggested.
  • Firstly i know how you feel. This is a marathon not a sprint. Our internal critic will say anything to help us fail. I am fighting the desire to stop. I am almost at one year of change and I am trying to keep going - I am keeping going. The honeymoon is over perhaps. Luckily someone here on MFP has on their page -…
  • Know how you feel. As a former over eater I have no place at a smorgasbord!
  • You could be right.
  • I went to a party and over ate finger food. I easily consumed what you say you did. The scales didn't like it (I KNOW it was retention rather than weight gain), the scales took a week to get back to the pre binge numbers. Within a couple of days I dropped some more weight. Its nothing. Don't worry. I exercise regularly. 6…
  • ! was in a family of six, my partner was from a family of five. We have a son. I'm not particularly close to most of my siblings. My three brothers hardly ever are in contact with me. I am in contact with one sister. My partner doesn't see his family much at all. Our boy is very self possessed, friendly, out going with a…
  • I routinely swim 2.5kms/ 50 laps - (50mts laps) in about 70 minutes, currently working on getting the time down.
