See, I hate Dr Oz and I hate magazines, ads, and all media geared toward women about food and weight loss. Why? All foods either have some magical property that will melt fat and give you_______. (Celebrity name)'s toned belly, or else the food (whatever food they choose that day) will be the reason for the fat epidemic…

Food for thought.

I want pizza now. .. I don't get 'not logging because you don't want to see red numbers' ...Just log. It's just information, the more you have the better you can figure out how to better plan in the future. If you were hungry enough to eat a whole pizza, I'm gonna guess you haven't been eating enough in general, or your…

Congrats to you both ♥♡♥

I'd round it up to 200 calories burnt. I err on the edge of caution typically. HRMs are best at steady state cardio as far as calorie estimation, but can still end up way off.

Granted I skimmed the article, but they mentioned weight loss, not necessarily fat loss. The idea of slow and steady is to not have a drastic caloric deficit and have a decent strength training routine so you retain as much lean body mass as possible. The more LBM you have, the higher your resting metabolism, the easier it…

Yep. Just put on your shoes and get going. You'll start feeling better once you get moving and then you'll be done - yay pride! Then do it again tomorrow. Some days you really won't feel like it... figure out if you've burned out and need a day off or if you're just feeling lazy. It happens.

A good smoothie with any combination of protein powder, fruit, vegetables, milk, yogurt, coconut milk, cottage cheese, orange juice, cocoa powder, honey, etc. etc. can keep you going for a long while, then you can have a snack later and a larger lunch. Smoothie - cup milk, cup frozen fruit, 1 scoop protein powder or…

I actually hurt my lower back pushing myself to hold a plank too long, I'd suggest you work up to a minute. Remember your abs and your back work together to stabilize you, so if one is weak, the other will compensate. Both were weak and I tweaked my back for about a week.

Your stomach may have shrunk a bit over time. If you're used to over-eating, you stretch your stomach. If you're used to eating less, your stomach is actually a bit smaller and it takes less to fill you up. A good example is if someone has had a stomach bug and has not been able to eat properly for a week or so. When they…

Mini english muffin pizzas ... you can use regular pepperoni or turkey pepperoni, some jarred spaghetti sauce, and whatever vegetables the child eats. A sprinkle of cheese. I bake my english muffins for about ten minutes first with a spray of olive oil on the cut side so it crisps up and can withstand more toppings/sauce…

The Mirror wall or at least a large mirror (also found at thrift shops) will be beneficial for checking your form on lifts. Good call.

Barbell, weight plates, squat rack, bench. You can find some of these things for extremely cheap at garage sales, donation centers or places like craigslist.com ... that's where I found a lot of my weights. :)

What's up? Did you suffer an injury or illness that threw you off? Depression? Burn out? What is causing you to derail?

^ This. You can actually lose weight by reducing portion sizes, tracking calories, working out (weight/resistance training and some cardio 3-5 times a week for even 30 minutes will help, I usually do an hour). You don't have to abstain from food you love or adhere to a strict diet of such and so to lose weight... that's…

I'm going to tatter and muddy up my oldest, gnarliest clothes and go Sexy Broke US Government.

First quote reminded me of A Scanner Darkly, but I really wanted to say congratulations on your sobriety. ♥

My coworkers all got on a kick from some lady about these diet pills. They were all losing weight. They all eventually stopped and gained more back. My stupid thing was taking the same pills with Korean writing all over them even after my coworker experienced chest pains. I discontinued their use when I found MFP and read…

Just personal experience - When I started, much like many others, I started at 1,200 calories. I lost a little bit of weight but was miserable for about a month. The loss did not equal the discomfort it put me through. When I started friending females who were eating significantly more (1600-2200 net, depending on activity…

I don't mind planks, but I warn anyone to build up to a minute so all your stabilizer muscles can adjust. I got rowdy challenging my fit roommate to last a minute and my lower back hurt for days

zinc will also help If you take it every three hours in losenge form when you start getting sick. It stops it from getting worse in my experience

Honestly, as much as I love Italian food, it depends on the day. Sometimes you just need a good hamburger and fries.

In the real world of eating healthy and having a healthy relationship with food, you're going to have to learn how to estimate and how to ask the waiter/waitress if they could please prepare the food in a lighter manner if possible i.e. lightly oiled, steamed, grilled, etc. It helps to realize that, no matter how carefully…

MFP is designed for you TO eat your burned calories, that's why they're added back. You already have a deficit built in, when you exercise you create more of a deficit.

Don't be scared of fat... it fills you up, it has more calories per gram than protein or carbs, and healthy fats help your hair, skin, nails, and circulatory system. Some good, calorically heavy foods which contain healthy fats: Avocado, nuts, etc etc... you can google and find lists of higher calorie foods you can try to…

I've had the same problem lately. The only fix I've found is making my own smoothies... +protein powder + milk and either frozenfruit or a chocolate/peanut butter/banana combo, having a larger breakfast, or eating higher calorie snacks. But sometimes my breakfast is big, and I'm not hungry until dinner. I always thought…
