I'm honestly not really getting how a pill could "tone" anything at all, you mean a pill that makes you build muscle all by itself? I don't think such a thing exists.

If you're doing it for the health benefits, I'm not sure that you have to go so far as to only do water. They've shown that you still get the benefits even if you eat some calories, I eat protein on my fasts. They still end up being very low calorie days.

Check out the EatSmart scale on Amazon, I've had mine for over a year and it's super accurate. It's not very expensive either, and has thousands of positive reviews.

Sorry I didn't mean to sound smart-alecy, I just wanted to point out that "8 cups of water" mean different things in different countries is all! If they said something like "2 litres of water" then that would mean the same thing anywhere in the world because a litre is standard. Sorry if that came across badly.

I do alternate day fasting, so on one day I eat 500 cals or less, and the next I eat 2300 calories. It averages to 1400 a day. I've been doing this since January.

This is nitpicky but just to correct, a cup is not a standard unit of measurement, a cup means different things in different countries. In Canada and Australia, a cup is 250ml. In the US, a cup is half a pint. In Japan, a cup is 200ml. It makes following recipes quite interesting! :)

This is one interview with a past contestant that wasn't happy: http://www.bodylovewellness.com/2010/06/09/kai-hibbard-biggest-loser-finalist-part-1-of-3/ Some quotes from the article: “We did one challenge in a stadium in California. It was about 100 degrees that day and the challenge involved running up stairs and then…

I think a lot of them do gain a lot of weight back when they go back into the "real world" and can't exercise 6 hours a day anymore. I remember reading an interview with a Biggest Loser contestant and it seemed pretty horrible on the set. Eating disorder horrible. Lots of diuretics before weigh ins. They also talked about…

I've read that their "weeks' aren't really weeks either. Sometimes 2-3 weeks between weigh ins.

Yeah, that's REALLY not how it works. Your muscle is attached to the bone by tendons, it doesn't just float around your body and form over fat. Your fat will be on top of the muscle (or sometimes inside the muscle), if you're building muscles you would be pushing the fat out. And you wouldn't be building "bulky muscle" as…

I can highly highly recommend the EatSmart scale... I was going crazy too with scales that gave wildly inaccurate weights, it's so discouraging. I've had this scale for over a year though and it's never bounced around and given me different weights, it's always accurate... if I step on with a 1 pound handweight, it shows…

I highly recommend the book "Brain over Binge", it's helped me so much!

You can do Power 90, I did it before and I don't remember anything in it that hurt me by making me jump. Also I used to do the Body for Life program and I thought that it was great, it wasn't a video though it's a book, but the plan was definitely doable no matter your fitness level since your "high point" would be…

Wow you look GREAT! I'm adding my vote to the "please tell us your story!" pool, I'd love to hear it!

You could take a look at "Fast 5" , the ebook is free: http://www.fast-5.com/ Even if you don't end up doing a 5 hour eating window like that, there's information on intermittent fasting in there. I myself alternate one meal and 2 meal days. For instance today, I only ate one meal, and i've just eaten it at 7:30pm.…

You will lose weight on low carb, you will lose weight on low fat, and you will lose weight just counting calories and eating twinkies all day. I would debate that all diets would give you the same *health* benefits though. I would think that a less processed diet would be optimal in the long run. This would not be the…

Me me... I mostly post over at LCF but I've been using MFP to keep track of my daily intake, switched from Fitday PC this week :)

Just cut em out! :) There's really no trick to it. Instead of a hamburger on a bun, eat the patty in a bowl with some pickle slices and tomatoes and mayo or whatever. Instead of pasta, use spaghetti squash or just skip it. Instead of potatoes, eat cauliflower. Keep it simple, a steak and a salad. Or a chicken breast and…

If you were on Atkins for 9 months and you started adding in carbs again, it's normal that you gained some weight back. Those quick losses in the first week or two of Atkins were water loss, adding in the carbs again makes you take that water back. That's completely normal. You would not have gained 10 pounds of fat in a…

I'm guessing what he meant is that he measured your body fat percentage, not BMI. BMI is a formula, a chart... there's no more accurate way, if he's talking about dunk tanks then he's talking about measuring lean body mass or body fat. And yes it's possible for your body fat to go down and your scale weight to stay the…

When I was in my mid 20s, I lost 100 pounds. My skin was fine. It all got down nicely, no big saggy areas. Then I went through two pregnancies and in both pregnancies gained entirely too much weight. Put on that 100 pounds again, but this time in different areas. And this time, older... mid 30s. And well, plastic surgery…

No one is saying that if you try to think positively about being a blonde, your brown hair will suddenly get lighter. Or that if you aren't able to sing at all (some people just don't have a good singing voice) that thinking positively will suddenly give you talent. But I do believe you DO need to think in positive…

I do intermittent fasting with an eating window so me, I don't graze. I eat one or two large meals a day depending on the day. I do eat my calories, but I'm satisfied with a few big meals as opposed to many small ones. Maybe someone else can't choke down a big meal and prefers to just nibble here and there. You need to do…

I highly recommend the book "Brain over Binge", it's seriously great. Also look into the podcast "Inside out Weight Loss", it's been helping me.

You guys think that 50 is too low? Atkins induction is less than 20g, that's what I started at, usually 10-15g a day :) I ate meat, and veggies. With butter. And eggs, cheese, almonds... Some berries and whipped cream when I needed something sweet.

True, I don't worry about giving my children an apple or a handful of strawberries. I wouldn't however give them 12 apples, nor have I ever allowed them to drink fruit juice. Fruit is tasty, I don't think there's anything wrong or lacking in a diet that avoids them though, and I don't think you should eat too much of it...…

Actually many people can tell you that fructose is bad for you.

I like how some of the replies anti-low carb say to basically cut out grains/white stuff/sugars and eat healthy carbs like veggies and dairy... which is basically a low carb diet? So you're advocating a low carb diet by saying that low carb is bad and you need carbs? To most people, low carb does not mean NO carb. I'd…

Again, I'll point you back up to the studies that show it is safe. There is a recommended dosage, you are not supposed to do more than that, that's why there are instructions. Why does it matter if they're a "novice?" Does that mean that they can't read up on it and take it responsibly? Is a novice cook unable to follow a…

You are absolutely right, the mind is such a powerful thing, it's really quite awesome. I'm in awe the more I read about it. I've been reading about neuroplasticity. This is absolutely fascinating stuff. Do you know that your brain physically changes based on what you do or don't do (habits?). It rewires itself to make the…
