Same here. I got started with his Bigger Leaner Stronger book on Audible. While I had a couple of very minor nits with it (like wondering why he didn't recommend MFP, which he now does in his 2nd edition), I thought it was the best all around program I've seen to date. So I bought a few more of his books and started taking…

Oops. Let me try again: https://legionathletics.com/skinny-fat/ Fixed it in the above post too.

After seeing this and your previous post, I'm not sure what to tell you. It sounds like you're doing everything right. You have a lot of strength. Yet your chest was lagging even when your weight was lower. And you're hitting your chest twice a week. Sorry, but I've got nothing.
-
You don't mention it, but according to your profile you still have a lot of weight to lose. If that's the case, you may just be noticing the muscles in your arms where there is less fat to obscure them, vs your chest where you may be losing some fat and building some muscle, but everything is still too big to be…

Kallkel, it's nothing to be scared of. It's just that some people are wasting their money on products that don't deliver what they claim and who will be falling short on their macros without knowing it. There are other things you could worry about, like dangerous chemicals being added, but I don't think that's been an…

My post-workout drink is 2 scoops of protein powder, water, 1 tbsp chia seeds, 2 tbsp oat bran, and 3 tbsp wheat bran. It doesn't taste bad. It doesn't taste good, either. But it has the protein, carbs and fiber I'm looking for. Then for lunch I have a smoothie with protein powder and a lot of other stuff: 85.00 g (3 oz),…

Your fears are not unfounded. A number of companies have been accused of amino acid spiking their protein powder, which makes it appear that there is more useful protein per serving than what you're actually getting. It's an intentional ripoff, but it's not illegal.…

A possible alternative is Georgie Fear's "Lean Habits." amazon.com/Lean-Habits-Lifelong-Weight-Loss/dp/1624141129 I've just started the book, but it makes a lot of sense. In short, you don't have to count calories to get and stay lean if you develop and maintain the right eating habits. I think she has 16 habits total, but…

Based on the posts in this thread I wouldn't have mentoined the reliability of the Nutibullet. It was at least a year ago, maybe two, when I looked into them and saw a lot of complaints. They must've addressed the issue since then. I used to make all my smoothies fresh too, but the package size of some of my ingredients…

I have a Vitamix and love it. It costs about three times as much as what you're looking at and is worth it, IMO. According to user reviews Vitamix blenders commonly last ten years or more while Nutribullets are measured in months. So over the long run, a Vitamix will probably cost you less. Also, Blendtec blenders are…

1.4 pounds is nothing. It's not worth worrying about or getting happy about. It could be from the strength training though, not in additional muscle mass, but in extra water retention from muscle repair, as Isaack said. The weight gain, if it is from strength training, should quickly stabilize. The good news is that while…

The best answer would be to ask your doctor. Your metabolism can slow by as much as 10% to 15% after being in a caloric deficit for a length of time. On top of that, your body naturally wants homeostasis, to maintain whatever weight it's currently at, so you naturally tend to become less and less active the longer you…
-
I wouldn't log it, assuming you gained weight while you were at the same job. You might want to set your activity level at moderately active if it's currently set to sedentary.
-
You can lose weight eating junk food, food with little nutritional value. If you eat at a caloric deficit, eating fewer calories than you burn through BMR (basic bodily functions with no activity), normal activity like walking, and intentional exercise. Genetics and body composition can play a role in variances in BMR…

LC, I'm mostly kidding about eating junk food, although not altogether. You seem to be "eating clean." I'm surprised that it results in so little sodium at the end of the day. I don't know much about hyperthyroidism, so any comment of mine wouldn't be worth much. You might want to share your sodium levels with your doctor…

I just started reading it. I heard the author Georgie Fear as a guest on a podcast and was impressed enough to buy her book. I like it so far. I haven't quit counting calories, macros and micros, but I can see how establishing her recommended habits could produce the desired effects without having to count calories. For…

LC, my first thought after looking at your diary is that I'm surprised you're still alive. You seem to be getting very little sodium, except with the processed food that you don't seem to eat much of. Looking a little closer I noticed that you're getting some bad info on your entries. Almost all foods contain at least some…

Agreed. The extra calories required to maintain muscle has also been over estimated. But the way I figure it, every little bit helps. And both are going to be more effective in boosting metabolism than chasing miracle foods and supplements.

BMI is good for people who don't know their body fat percentage and are not about to have it measured. BMI at least gives them some indication on where they fall in comparison to others of the same height. No doubt that measuring body fat is more meaningful. The problem is that only people who are doing something about…

You're young and look to be in pretty good shape, so I wouldn't worry much about boosting your metabolism through diet. Eating at a caloric deficit over a period of time can slow your metabolism by 10% to 15%. And your body naturally adapts by becoming less active so that you burn fewer calories throughout the day with…

I agree. Also, popcorn is a good source of fiber and antioxidants, and is the perfect food for mindless munching in front of the TV because it has a lot of bulk for the calories. If you add butter and/or cook in oil you undo the low calories part though.

Your diary is locked so we're not going to get any clues there. How is your daily or average sodium consumption?

Weekdays I normally "eat" a smoothie for lunch. It's more filling that it sounds at 461 calories, 13g of fat, 46g of carbs, 46g of protein, and 11g of fiber, plus it has most of the stuff that I should be eating. I still used to get hungry mid-afternoon, but have been okay since I started delaying eating my lunch until…

Subway has 3" subs? That doesn't sound very satisfying. I like Subway and when I don't have time to pack a lunch, I usually go to Subway for a 6" sub. I don't think Subway is particularly healthy or clean, but it's better than a hamburger. One thing I've noticed is that I have to beg for spinach. I tell them I want…

MFP shows the upper limit for sodium at 2300 milligrams. Most people (Americans) go way over that on a regular basis, not by adding salt to their cooking or dinner plates, but through processed foods. Food manufacturers sell food by making stuff that tastes good and most of us want three things when it comes to taste:…

I'm 61. A few years ago I went in for a physical for the first time since high school, motivated by a suspected hernia that turned out to be a double hernia. Other than getting the hernias fixed, nothing was too remarkable except that my doctor told me I was overweight. I knew I had put on a few pounds over the last ten or…

I had been having knee problems a few years ago when I started cycling on a stationary bike. The bike didn't seem to help and it was frustrating because my workouts were limited by knee pain rather than cardiovascular capacity. Cycling didn't seem to hurt my knees further, but it wasn't helping either. Then I read about…

Yoyo, I understood where you're coming from and I'm genuinely interested in the product. I'm not ready to drop $ 200 on one just yet, but I do hope to hear more from you and other users over time. Don't let the skeptics bother you.
-
I'd like to get one but at $200 they're a little too pricey for me. They claim a high degree of accuracy. I'd like to see comments from users who've compared Skulpt results against DEXA results.

OP, you skipped right by this post, but I think it's great advice. Like Luluinca, I have 3 herniated discs in my lower back. I also have two more in my neck. None of them bother me much, if at all, anymore. But 30-ish years ago I was laid up for a month with severe back pain. The first doctor I saw wanted to operate. The…
