Keto is great but low carb calories are still calories. Need to be in calorie deficit.

Movies? Having lost my father unexpectedly when he was only 48 (I was 26), I'll admit to tearing up during the 'catch' scene in Field of Dreams. Pedicure? Pffft! I've never had a pedicure (...or a manicure) in my life. Unmanly confession? I have a weakness for sappy 70s love songs. "I'm Not in Love" by 10cc gets me every…

This is a concern for me as well. I have a family history of diabetes and I've also been diagnosed as prediabetic. Maintaining a healthy weight is key. Your diet doesn't have to be complicated. Eat a healthy balanced diet and avoid foods high in sugar. Start reading the labels when you shop. You also might consider…

It's not difficult for me to do 1200 a day during the week. In fact I often net substantially less than that after my workouts are figured in. Weekends are another story. I often end up going over on the weekends. I don't worry about it. It has become routine.

Been there. Done that. I wish I still had some of the money I've wasted on weight loss supplements over the years. The ONLY one I've ever found to be effective was the old Metabolife formula that contained ephedra. Ephedra of course was deemed potentially risky by the FDA and has been banned in the U.S. since 2003. It…

Here's something that helped me: Don't pound the pavement when you run. Try to be light on your feet without bouncing up and down. Try to run with a smooth steady gliding stride. It sounds silly but try to imagine the ground is covered with eggs and you need to run across those eggs without breaking them. Ice your knee for…

Trying to cut back on carbs. Typically two eggs fried in a little olive oil and a microwave turkey sausage patty. Quick and easy and keeps me satisfied until lunch.

Wow! Outstanding!

Interesting article, but from personal experience as a longtime runner and marathoner, I found a gait analysis very beneficial. I was skeptical until I finally acquiesced and had one done at Road Runner Sports. I discovered I'd been misinterpreting my foot mechanics for over 20 years. I've been running with the proper type…

People sometimes ask me when I'm going to buy a new belt. I don't plan on replacing that belt anytime soon. I'll just punch new holes in it as I continue to cinch it tighter . I may look ridiculous with the excess hanging and flopping around but I kind of enjoy it. :-)

Two 3 mile runs a day may not sound like a lot but how many days a week are you running? If you're running every day, that's 42 miles a week and that's a lot of mileage. Heck, that's a lot of weekly mileage for some marathon training plans I've seen. I love to run but I've learned I need to take a rest day every now and…

It's up to you of course but I've found eating a good breakfast is the best way for me to lose weight. I try to make it my biggest meal of the day and include a good amount of protein and fat. It curbs my appetite for the rest of the day, keeps my metabolism up, and gives me energy for my early afternoon workout. "Eat…

Ugh. Chips & crackers. Namely Doritos and Cheez-It crackers. M&Ms are hard to resist when I craving chocolate.

I'm very sorry to hear of your loss. Please accept my sincere condolences. Please don't burden yourself with unnecessary stress. Diet and exercise are trivial concerns at times like this. Losing a parent is difficult under the best of circumstances; losing one under such tragic circumstances even more so. It's a time for…

I'm not an expert but I'm a veteran of four marathons and I've had some experience in this area. How many miles are you running? Losing toenails is not unusual for distance runners but it typically happens after marathons or other long distance races, not training runs. Don't underestimate the importance of socks. Cotton…

I've run four full marathons. My last one was the 2011 Chicago Marathon. I planned on running it again in 2012 but had to drop out due to several nagging injuries. There will ALWAYS be set backs and disappointments while training for a marathon. There will be weekends when you just won't be up for your long run either…
