I have less coordination and rhythm than you do, and I had no probvlem with BodyPump - no coordination required, and you stay in one place - the only time there is foot movement is to do lunges. I found it to be a lot of fun, loved the music and energy (I had to stop because squats/lunges were doing a number on my knees).…

If you can do some hill work, add that in (can be in place of a track interval run), and do squats/lunges/core exercises. Make sure you stretch really well afterwards - you don't want to risk a preventable injury. And as someone else said, before your timed run(s), warm up with some light jogging (seems counter-intuitive…

As others have said, diet is the main component of weight loss, but aside from that, swimming is great exercise, but you could also look into rowing, and weight lifting (perhaps with nautilus-type machines, so you don't stress your ankle with standing exercises).

Do you have a Whole Foods or similar type store nearby? They are very good about environmentally-friendly, sustainably caught seafood and very high quality - pricier than Krogers but worth it.

I love stuffed portobello mushrooms (the really big ones) - I get them already prepared at Albertsons/Krogers, but they would be easy enough to make yourself - two favorites - stuff the center of the mushroom with spinach leaves and mozzarella, season to taste with favorite seasonings, or put salsa/pico de gallo in the…

The American Heart Association, for starters, recommends no more than 300 mg dietary cholesterol per day for people with normal LDL levels and less than 200 for those with high LDL levels. A whole egg has about 185 mg. See common misconceptions about cholesterol:…

If you're gaining weight, and clothes are tighter, it's not water or muscle (unless the tightness is in a very specific place, like quads). You've obviously increased your daily intake too much. An extra 1.5 miles per day is very unlikely to burn an extra 400 calories. You may also be underestimating the amount you eat if…

A man should not have a calorie goal as low as 1200 cal/day, that's simply not healthy. That's the low end, appropriate for a small woman. A man shouldn't be going below at least 1500-1600. And the foods you are eating are not particularly healthy or filling - you'll find you can eat a lot more if you eat lean proteins,…

How do you make the veggie omelets in muffin cups? I would really like to make some of those... they would be a great mid-morning snack.

Managed to get to the gym on my trip this weekend - yay! I just walked on the treadmill because I had just eaten dinner, but importantly, I DID go. The problems I ran into on this trip involved food - the airport offerings were particularly bad, and for dinner, we ate at a high-end steakhouse where they didn't have dinner…

I prefer to run outside, but I have trained for 5Ks indoors on a treadmill, and my race time was no different than when I trained outside, so it is definitely running, and it can be done. If you are seriously training to run competitively you probably need more outdoor runs, but if you are just doing it as a personal…

Just realized the thread title is messed up - should be 'It's never too late to get started'. Last time I laugh at other people's title typos :blushing:

This is a great topic - right now I'm enjoying a 6 week break from work-related travel, but it's about to start up again in February, and travel is the big thing that tends to derail me. I find the biggest problem is mental, and related to workload - in the past I've tried to juggle multiple projects on top of the trip…
