Not sure if this is a serious question or not, but severe left-sided chest pain is a classic heart attack symptom. While that may not be what's happening to you, you really should get checked out by a doctor, run a stress test, and make sure your heart is in good enough shape for the type of exercise you are doing. ASAP.

Congrats! That's fantastic!

Wow - I didn't realize there were so many others out there! I'm 45, single, and no children nor plans to have any, even if the single status (hopefully) changes. I do have two beautiful cats though, and wouldn't mind a dog or two if I ever stop traveling so much. But no desire for children.

I'm apparently a bat... it kind of fits, though I'm not nocturnal and I don't hang out in dark clubs...

Well, I think I'm back now - the big trips are out of the way. Unfortunately I brought back 2.6 pounds of "souvenirs" which seem to be concentrated right around my middle. Too much good food, not enough exercise or sleep. But, I got back to eating healthier and lighter yesterday, and I'm trying to get some exercise in…

I've been buried under work, and traveling last week and again next week, so I haven't been around much. Gave up on tracking OWLs for the moment too - just juggling too many balls :-( This trip was an epic fail as far as food goes, need to mentally regroup before next week's conference. Hope everyone else is doing better!

Indeed. In Asian countries where soy-based foods are a staple, there isn't an epidemic of man-boobs (although there certainly is in the US, and it has a lot more to do with junk food), and their rates of breast cancer (for which the risk is known to increase with increased estrogen exposure) are lower than in the West,…

Hope everyone's week is off to a great start! I'm buried under a mountain of work and leaving for a trip on Wednesday, so I won't be around much - goal right now is just to try to maintain, and stick to quasi-healthy eating while I'm gone, maybe some exercise if I can squueze it in.

I'm still in, but haven't been able to hit the weights as frequently as I want (swamped with work) - only got to the gym once this week, but did some strength training at home today - shoulders and arms are going to hurt tomorrow :-) Will be traveling the next two weeks - will try to hit the hotel gyms when I can, but in…

I agree - just looked at your diary, and you are making some really good, healthy food choices, but don't eat too little - aim for at least 1200 calories of healthy foods. Then, keep doing what you're doing and you'll see results eventually. I find it takes about 2-3 weeks for the scale to start moving when I start really…

Welcome Jade! I used to live in Nashville when I was a grad student - I really miss how pretty it was there (I'm in TX now, they've kind of outlawed nature here). Good luck with finishing up school and your student teaching. The one tip I would give you is just to commit to making time for fitness - the responsibilities…

Wow, haven't been tracking OWLs lately because I've been so busy but will try to track this week - I desperately need to drink more water, and the crunches fit right in with another challenge I'm doing where I'm shooting for at least 75 per day :-)

Got my second weight-lifting session in today - went to the apartment gym again - chin-ups, dips, the quad and hammie machine, and then the chest and shoulder machines - those killed me, I have zero upper body strength right now - and some free weights - definitely feel like I'm doing something good - but I can't wait til…

I second the recommendation fro Allan Carr's book - it is amazing how well reading that book works for some people (myself included - I've been cigarette-free for about 7 months now). The first 3-5 days are the hardest if you go cold turkey, because of the physical withdrawal, but after that it was relatively easy. Tell…

Just added strength training and stationary biking to my routine or running and yoga :-) Muscles know something different is going on.

Awesome - thanks!

Consistency is the key - even small changes done consistently over a period of time can make a huge difference in where you wind up. An analogy I heard once involved flight plans - if a plane is 1 degree of course, it won't make much of a difference of 10 or 20, or even 50 miles, but if that plane is headed from NY to LA…

Hi Ravenclaws, I haven't had a chance to check in lately - I moved in the middle of last month, and got behind on work and have been playing catch up ever since. Hopefully things are beginning to settle down a little. At least I've been sticking to my exercise schedule pretty consistently, and managed to lose weight in…

OK, this challenge is helping me already - my plan was to start back to BodyPump this week, but workload won't allow it, BUT i felt guilty so I went to the apartment gym and used the weight machines today - not quite as much of a total-body workout, but I did exhaust a few muscle groups and it's a start!
-
Great progress - keep up the good work!
-
Count me in - I've been meaning to get back to Body Pump - I can definitely tell a difference when I do it regularly, but I don't think I've ever done it consistently for 3 whole months - this will be good motivation - I'll be curious to see how my body changes!
-
This sounds like fun - count me in!

I go to a spa each year for my own health and fitness retreat - some of the things I've enjoyed learning about is how to cook healthier and make healthy foods taste delicious, how to use a variety of herbs and different whole grains, etc... Also, a refresher on good nutrition, debunking myths, etc... is always helpful.…

^^^^This^^^^ And please don't use the 'I can't find a job' line. You could babysit if nothing else, assuming you are honest, reliable and dependable. If you have those qualities and have any gumption whatsoever, you'll have a clientele built up in no time and be able to make quite a killing. If you don't have those…

Right now, Barney and BamBam. Used to have Fred but he passed away.

Hi Everyone, I think I'm back - went missing last week because I was moving (from a 3rd floor apt to another 3rd floor apt - I spent 2.5 days going up and down stairs carrying boxes and logged some serious exercise minutes/burns - can't get that kind of workout in the gym :-) ) It was such a pain, but now at least I'm in…

Gee, this might be a big part of the problem... you're eating who knows what and who knows how much, and then wondering why you're not losing. It's really not rocket science. Eat fewer calories than you burn, and focus on healthy less processed foods - lean proteins, fresh fruits and veggies, whole grains, limit processed…
