I 100% agree with this. Everything I've made so far = awesome.

I agree with ganesha and wouldn't worry about it too much! You're feeling awesome, your'e losing even when going over by a few (not uncommon given that it's all just estimates and you could very well be burning more calories daily than you think you are). Sounds like a good deal to me :D Keep up the good work!

Replace "sugar" with "aspartame". Same basic reactions.

I know what you mean! I was always a beer drinker. I managed to cut back significantly on that during my weight loss journey. I'd have an occasional glass of wine, usually white, when visiting family but never something I picked up on my own. Since going paleo/primal, I've developed quite a liking of red wine. It's not…

Way to go, you're looking GREAT! Congrats on your success and anniversary :D

Unless you've been drinking gluten-free beers, you're undoing much of the good of this way of eating. Even a little bit of gluten can irritate your gut lining and that gut lining damage remains for up to 2 weeks. So if you have yet to cut out beer, you should really consider it. The whole point of eliminating grains is to…

A friend tried to push this doc on me last week actually. It's based on "The China Study", which has been highly criticized. Here's a decent article critically analysing the (often selective) science used in the doc: http://rawfoodsos.com/2011/09/22/forks-over-knives-is-the-science-legit-a-review-and-critique/

Ooo that's a good idea! Thanks :)

What do you mean by "free" meal? Letting yourself have a regular meal? If you truly want to benefit from this lifestyle change, you'll have to be pretty strict about the no grains for at LEAST 30 days. I've read it takes about 14 days for one dose of gluten to leave your body, i.e. for your gut to no longer be inflamed by…

I always add some cloves of garlic, the scallions are a great idea, I've got some sitting in my fridge now!
-
I usually go for a can of tuna with a bit of mustard. Depending on how hungry I am, I may also microwave a sweet potato with some creamed coconut and cinnamon sprinkled on top.

Thanks! Feel free to message me anytime, always looking for fellow paleo people to support and be inspired by :)

I've been doing paleo/primal since October. I was already at my goal weight when I started (thanks MFP!) but now I don't have to worry about maintaining it and I no longer bother to count calories. Here's a group you should check out! You'll find lots of help/support here:…

That's true, I try not to think "this is going to taste like mashed potatoes!" but even though I LOVE cauliflower, I still have been finding it bland when "mashed". Might have something to do with the water content. It's strange to me I guess, because I love cauliflower any other way hehe, even raw & plain!
-
Granolagrl, what shepard's pie recipe did you use? i've stumbled across several all with mashed cauliflower on the top. I've yet to make a mashed cauliflower that lived up to it's "mashed potato substitute" name. Perhaps I'm doing it wrong?

^^This. You can lose weight through exercise alone, but if you think about it, you're only cheating yourself by not fixing up your "diet". Why put all that effort into exercise only to undermine your results by not making healthier food choices?
-
Cool thanks chicky!

I was really surprised by how much I liked spaghetti squash when I tried it, which was just recently. I first had it with a meaty beanless chili I made. Awesome. Since then I've had it as spaghetti and just mixed with coconut oil and other veggies.

^^I second this. A lot of people "don't like vegetables" because they aren't used to eating them. Their tastebuds are used to salty, sugary processed fare. Just make an effort to eat them more and if you're also cutting back on processed foods, you'll find they taste delicious after a few weeks!

I don't use either. Splenda is made from sucralose and Truvia is a form of Stevia owned by Coca-Cola. Neither are paleo friendly sugar replacements, as far as I know. I stick with raw honey. It's not zero calorie (but who says sweetener should be zero calorie anyways - give me calories with some nutritional value over zero…

HAHAHA. This made my day.

I definitely love coconut milk with my coffee, especially iced coffee. Other than that, I was actually surprised how easy it was to give up dairy/grains! I was already eating clean so cutting out those 2 things wasn't that much of a stretch. For me it just meant I no longer had yogurt and granola for breakfast hehe. My…

PS. I find doing up a meal plan every week VERY helpful budget wise. That way I can see all the food available to me and make meals to make sure I use it all up before it goes bad!
-
I actually don't find eating primal/paleo that much more expensive than a regular diet. Certainly the meat is a little more, but when it comes right down to it, I'm at a point in my life where I would RATHER spend my money on food that is going to make me feel good and healthy, than cheap food that makes you feel like…

Well I haven't been tracking my foods since I went paleo, but I am actually about to start logging again next week so then you'll be able to read through my diary and see what I eat. I'm sure if you do some searching around here, you'll find other paleo ppl with open diaries. I'm doing full paleo so no dairy. Some people…

This is what I used to think! Until I bit the bullet and tried it and realized I def COULD give up grains & cheese. I just didn't WANT to, because they're addictive. They send signals to the same receptors that heroin and morphine do. Here's an interesting article on how your body handles them (it's actually an excerpt…

Ahh Staci, she is what really got me interested in Paleo as well. I was already at my goal weight, which I achieved through moderate exercise and switching my diet to eat "clean". So I had basically already cut out all the processed foods and was eating what I thought was pretty clean. I started eating paleo on Oct. 10.…

I'm doing Paleo/Primal too! Almost at the 2mth mark. Haven't been logging since I started and I actually dropped ten lbs, though I thought I was doing good at making sure to eat enough! I was at my goal weight when I started (I've been here since February but only paleo/primal since Oct.) I'd love to have some like-minded…

Totally agree with this! ^^
