Talking to myself . . . I asked Google today what to eat for breakfast on the Mediterranean diet. Apparently, from the articles I read, the answer is fish. I don't think so. Back to oatmeal, I guess. I like oatmeal, with some fruit and nuts which fits into the Mediterranean diet principles. It's easier just to eat some…

I like the reports available here, and can see from my reports that I don't always eat enough protein and I ALWAYS seem to eat too much sodium. Mainly yesterday because I ate two meals out, even though the calories were OK, there was too much sodium. So, this next week or so I think I'll try to be mindful of how much…

My sister, who is in good shape and a health nut, takes salad in a jar to work. She puts low-fat dressing on the bottom of the jar, then chopped veggies, then greens on top. The process of pouring it out into a bowl gets the dressing from the bottom of the jar to the top of the salad. She takes low-fat cheese, celery…

What a tough challenge you are facing. I think you would probably benefit from counseling, if you can find a psychologist who helps people with eating disorders. I think we all could stand to learn more about ourselves, and you are at a crucial point right now where some counseling could really help.

Speaking as an older woman with lots of years of eating not-such-good food, I'd like to change what you're saying just a little: "I can eat whatever I want, but FIRST I'm going to eat an apple." "I can eat whatever I want, but FIRST I'm going to have a side salad." "I can eat whatever I want, but I think I'll chop up some…

Good for you!

I was reading an article recently about myths of dieting and the article discussed whether or not you should eat breakfast. The authors pointed out that the earlier you eat, the longer your window of eating time is -- so you are more likely to overeat. In my own experience, that's true. Now I just eat when I'm hungry which…

Reading about exercise today. Found this article with some very interesting info about the minimum exercise needed to improve health -- it turns out that the harder you exercise, the less time you need to do it to produce change. Of course, doing it longer burns more calories, but if it's hard to get motivated about…

You can lose weight without exercising, but the exercise is good for your heart, muscles, bones and all your organs. I'm 64, and I'm benefiting now from all the walking I did when I was younger. I'm kind of hard up for exercise right now because my knees hurt, but I find marching in place to loud music is fun and gets me…

During the first month of being very very faithful to my goals and not cheating at all, I gained three pounds!! Talk about discouraged. But that was temporary. So, I'd say don't give up. Even if you're not losing weight, you're getting healthier which will help you live a longer life.

I don't have a scale, so don't know how much I'm losing. I'm just watching for the pants size to go down. I weigh in when I go to the doctor's office which is every month or so.

I did two years of regular training in a gym, starting at more weight than you currently have. I was afraid people would be unkind, but, frankly, no one is paying attention. They're all staring into the mirrors at themselves while they work out. I relaxed and got on with it.

Rye doesn't have the gluten that wheat has, so 100% rye bread is pretty heavy. You slice it thinly or eat rye crackers instead. It's easy to make bread, I've been making it for years and years. Look on youtube for videos about making no-knead bread. It makes very good bread, with almost no fat, and no dairy. You can…

I agree that logging every bite works. If you pig out, record it anyway, and then adjust over the next few days. Also, and I'm not joking here, eat with skinny people. Order what they order and stop eating when they do. For instance, I learned from one skinny friend how to eat salad dressing. She orders it on the side and…

I mostly have a package of Belvita oatmeal breakfast biscuits and some coffee. It lasts me a long time, is easy and tastes really good. Of course, you all have to go to work, so you might need more sustenance than that -- I'm retired. I used to precook brown rice and eat some for breakfast with half an avocado and some…

Another knitter here -- I love knitting and it has the added side benefit that I can't eat and knit at the same time! Best wishes for your success.

You exercise more -- since you can't eat much less. It's hard to get enough nutrients if you eat less than 1200 calories, as far as I understand. So, more exercise is the answer. Good luck to you!

Y'all are a bunch of kids. I just turned 64 this week. Have been working on my diet for about three months -- not here, though. I just found this site. I'd like to lose a pound a week this year, so far so good. My motivation is bad knees. I know losing weight will help my knees and avoid surgery. I've been going along…
