I have been running - or I should say slogging - for over 10 years and I still don't really like it. I feel bizarrely compelled to do it nearly every-day and feel great afterward but I don't *like* it. I kept waiting for the day when I would. Eh. But I still do it. I run on lifting days and sometimes on rest days, but only…

@ Fittreelol “that it really doesn't have to be super close to your max weight to be working, and helping you progress. I always try to remember that when I can't train at my full capacity.” That is super good advice and helpful to hear. I should tape that on my bench. Also, I am super inspired by your workouts! @ all…

I am also super interested in this thread. I do planks and curls because I like doing those a lot and feel like I notice results but thats all the extra I do. I was doing a core "program" after my runs but now that I am taking long rests with SL5x5 there is just no extra time in my life for that. But I liked how I felt…

Thank you so much! I will follow that to the T next time. Last night I warmed up quite a bit - did some jumping jacks and stuff too and worked with 135. My legs felt perfectly fine.

I don't keep track of warm up sets very well. On my best days it goes like this: I usually do a bunch of fast air sqquats - maybe 20 or so - and then one warm up empty bar then maybe one with 65 pounds, another with 95 and 135. I'll tool around on the check-in thread and see what other folks are doing. I feel really…

I third or fourth fractionals and accessory work. I recently added curls and started doing planks again and my OHP feels way better and stronger, even on days when I fail.

Thanks. I think I needed to be told to take it easy. I will rest for a few days and start up de-loaded and video myself. I think it is warm-up related and possibly I am not drinking enough water. It feels literally like my muscle is pulling painfully, but not in a stretching way. ITs weird. And hard to take seriously…

I eat a ton of meat now - not a lot of dairy tho - but was a vegetarian for many years. Do you eat eggs? Eggs have a nice satisfying combo of protein and fat. Its easy to mix in veggies with eggs. We also eat a lot of scrambled tofu in our house. Is tofu considered fermented? I can never remember. But again, I mix it with…

I stayed up WAY too late last night and watched this. Its a french coming of age movie about the intensity of love and is really quite romantic/tragic! Love at first sight and that kind of thing. There's kindof a formula for french coming of age movies - which I love - and this one hit that formula in a super awesome,…

Speaking as a midwife here.... crunches and situps in high quantity are also hard on your pelvic floor (the muscles that support the uterus and bladder). If you are working out at home, do check out some of the aps out there that will help guide you through a program. You are your own gym is great! Lifting heavy weights…

I still do a lot of low-intensity cardio. I run 30-60 minutes about 5 days a week, between 2 and 4 miles at a go so not fast. It might affect my strength gains, but I haven't noticed any downsides really (except freakish hunger on days when I do both). Partly, I struggle with thyroid issues and have historically gained…

Just wanted to add that as a fat person who is very fit (and have been fit and fat for many years) I believe that the burns are WAY overestimated for me. I think the machines and MFP imagine that I am 200+ pounds of huffing flab and that I haven't exercised since I was a kid. Map My Run is the worst! You get more efficient…

Thats a really good idea to have someone check the joists. I guess I can see if there's anything about them in the inspection report from when we bought it. I tend to think that old floors are way stronger than new ones because the wood is so much better and thicker, but checking for damage is a great idea. Sometimes the…

I am quite overweight but also really muscular (the lady in the weightroom that women worry about bulking into, probably, though I am bulky no matter what I do). I saw change and tone very quickly in my shoulders, butt and legs. My legs have gotten smaller and more toned which is great, and my butt is definitely perkier…

Yes warm up for sure. I watched some Medhi video where he said you shouldn't have to warm up for the DL because you were already warm from the other workouts. Well, I wasn't getting enough practice with my DL form so I have a few warm-up sets. I lift 175 now and 5 times of that is *plenty*.

I do sometimes. I eat a lot of random raw veggies. I don't always log 3 slices of cucumber or 1/4 a bell pepper or whatever because it takes a long time to record a salad that way..... I did in the beginning because it was fun to see how over I was in my micronutrients. I wish MFP kept track of more micros and I would…

Moving Comfort compression shorts are the ONLY shorts I have found that stay up without feeling like a corset around my waist. The ones that are a bit big though fall down until I break a sweat. So, since I can't afford to buy new shorts every time my weight fluctuates, I run on the treadmill at home with an abdominal…

what is your set-up? I am a super-introvert when it comes to working out. Hate asking for a spot or asking my partner for help. He keeps saying he's going to work out too..... maybe it would seem less silly if he was working out and not just watching me. At any rate, I keep having to do the role of shame or lift light. So…

IMO You should get a treadmill so you can work up to running outside. Running is habit forming is ways that other exercising desn't seem to be. I love my treadmill so much. On days when I can't imagine running (this happens even though Ive been running for years) I can still walk up an incline while I watch a netflix. I…

2nd workout since taking a 2 week break from the gym in Belize. Squat - 5x5 145 with one warmup set each of 45/75/95/135 (this is the lazy one-plate method of warming up) These are starting to feel for-real for me. Struggled a bit staying off my toes and keeping my knees out. Will probably stay here for a couple more…

I run. I've been running for a long time and at this point a long slow run is like a walk - it clears my head, gives me alone time and maintains my fitness. Before starting stronglifts I was doing shorter runs with fast intervals and whatnot. I stopped that and just cruise for 30-60 minutes instead.

Youtube videos are good.... Definitely look up the roll of shame on youtube before lifting without a spotter. I bench press without one most times and have done this twice. Oh well. :) Mainly, I lift lighter than I would otherwise.

That's what I would do!
-
I started a bit heavier and its been fine. Still have had the beginners success. First fail was over 6 weeks into the program. I had heavy lifted before, though not right before starting SL5x5.
-
I'm going to say something a little different.... I think exercise is *critical* in managing stress which in turn helps us eat less (and also allows us to eat more without gaining). I would explode into a million stressed-out shards if I didn't work out almost every day. Could you aim for an hour of work-out-like activity…

Yes to an Enell bra! I swear I almost cried the first time I put one on - it was like being 10 again. I still wear the ones that I have that are too big for running for playing with my kids, walking, biking, etc and they are great for that. I love the feeling of being bounce-free so, so much. It will not seem possible to…

Today was B for me. Normally I run before I lift - not usually *right* before since I run on my treadmill at home or outside then go to the gym to lift, but within an hour or 2 of lifting. Today I didn't run before and I did feel stiff. Should warm up more... Squats - warmups: 2x5 @ 45, 2x5@95 work 5x5 @ 135. Really…

Welcome! I am also new - started this specific program 6 weeks ago or so. One awesome thing about heavy lifting is that I think most people see strength results *fast*. You will feel so strong! I am glad I took someones advice and took some mirror pictures of myself when I started. I am only down a little over 10 pounds…

Definitely giving myself permission to skip breakfast or eat a really small breakfast has helped. My breakfasts have been a great, healthy, high-protein meal with tons of veggies for me since I was pregnant for the first time 9 years ago. But its almost always around 700 calories. I just bumped that meal to midday and have…

This is such a problem for me too! I started wearing tight pants because I don't care but - I have found the that exercise pants at LL bean are flattering, not too tight and don't fall down.
