  • Yeah, I wouldn't worry too much about it. I take my Flex off to swim (I don't trust its waterproofness) and use a HRM to measure my pool burns but that means the steps I take to/from the pool and in the shower aren't counted - no biggie, it all evens out eventually.
  • Are you eating back exercise calories? Be aware that burn totals are usually overestimated so if you're eating back your entire allowance you are likely not to be in a true deficit.
  • I have never weighed below 160lbs in my adult life (I'm 3lbs off that at the moment!) and I've always been on the big side so I went for a little above the middle of 'normal' for my height (140lbs) according to BMI thingies. I'll see what I look like/how I feel when I get there.
  • One of the main reasons I decided to get my butt in gear and lose weight/get healthy was taking up cruising - the weight would go on and never come off because I was lazy and didn't make an effort to shift it when the holiday was over. My advice - eat what you want, practise a wee bit of moderation (like, don't have 5 ice…
  • Out of a low pub window after drinking 10 pints of Stella - in front of my future husband. Classy!
  • Fruit and veg are your best friends. I just made a super filling and low cal (less than 250) bulgur wheat & spinach salad and I'm stuffed. Add lots of different things to keep your palate entertained. Dressings made with lemon juice, red wine/balsamic vinegar, garlic, pepper and/or ginger et al will up the flavour factor.…
  • Start small and build on solid foundations. Don't try to do everything at once, it can overwhelm and dishearten you. Stagger the lifestyle changes you want to introduce so you can concentrate at one thing at a time until you get the hang of it (be it exercise or drinking more water or whatever). Give yourself small,…
  • Daft question but have you definitely entered/updated with your new weight? Either by clicking 'Check-In' in the tool bar or by selecting the little weighing scales to the right of your 'Xlbs lost' on your Daily Summary section? Other than that I've no idea why it wouldn't be showing.
  • The trick is finding something you like that you can see yourself doing semi/fairly regularly without wanting to jump off a cliff. Can you ride a bike? Can you swim? Do you like team sports? Pick something and give it a go - the sole purpose of exercise doesn't have to be simply weight loss/fitness, it can be fun and…
  • Nope, never and I've been big all my life. Last time I went to the nurse (for a smear) I knew I'd lost about 30lbs so I was all, "Ummm, do you not need to weigh me?". She said she didn't but I said, "Yeah, you do!", got on the scales anyway and asked her to amend my record. I also got a sticker for being brave because I…
  • Since losing weight I literally can not go into town without buying at least one item of clothing. Enjoying clothes is a new thing for me and the novelty value of things a) fitting at all and b) looking pretty good still hasn't worn off. Luckily I have an eye for a bargain so I'm not overspending but I do have a…
  • On Saturday I had haggis (and tattie scones) for breakfast, a piece of banana & white chocolate cake (at a cat cafe no less!), a 3 course lunch (venison meatballs!) and a 7 course tasting menu. I didn't log any of it. Birthdays rock!
  • I don't like wearing 'sports wear' when I'm outside because it's like you're announcing to the world 'Look at me, I'm exercising!" and I don't yet feel I can pull that off without inviting judgement because I don't look 'fit enough'. As such, I just wear normal clothes when I go for walks. On Monday I did a fairly brisk 5…
  • If you enjoy swimming get in that pool! Most of the weight I've lost came off while I was doing only swimming and walking (I started out at 211lbs) - obviously I was logging the calories at the same time but it's an exercise I enjoy so I don't much care if there are 'better' ways. I find it relaxing and fun and all that…
  • Oh, I hear that loud and clear. Taking up cruising was the catalyst for me getting my eating/fitness sorted. Buffets and pina coladas - too good not to indulge (especially when you've paid for it!) but too bad not to require some sort of rectifying behaviour. Good news was last summer I only gained 3lbs in a fortnight.
  • I bought 3 packs of Reece's Peanut Butter Cups today. To be fair, they were only 40p each and one pack is for me, one is for my husband and one is for my Mum who, in a recent conversation, revealed she's never had a PBC - I know, how do people LIVE?! Anyway, I've eaten mine already (fits my macros so it's all good). It's 3…
  • Today I deliberately sought out, picked up and then put down (in another part of the supermarket!) a jar of the Lotus biscuit spread. Was so proud of my self-restraint that I celebrated by buying a half dozen Krispy Kreme because they now have the Reeces and the Lotus Caramelised Biscoff ones which I just 'had' to try.…
  • I sometimes make thin omelettes (1 egg each, big pan) which work quite well when I fancy a wrap. It only takes 5 minutes to knock up a few and I think they'd work OK in a lunchbox too.
  • I realised I wanted to be lighter, fit and healthy more than I wanted to keep making excuses. Basically I grew up and took responsibility for myself and my body. I can have *some* chocolate/cake/pizza, I don't have to have it *ALL*. I learned to love that buzz after exercise. And I got my 'high' from knowing that I'm doing…
  • Gym, shower, pool, shower again. If I go to the gym I pretty much *have* to go in the pool anyway because there are no showers in the gym section and you aren't allowed to shower naked so I have to put my costume on and wash myself underneath it. It is utterly ridiculous but apparently some people complained about people…
  • Yorkshire lass here, Hull-based so not that far away from you. I got a Fitbit last May and it's helped a lot. I don't always hit my target but I try and I don't feel guilty if I don't. I find that helps, try your best but drop the guilt, not productive. Acknowledge when you've slipped up, tell yourself you can do better…
  • Can you elaborate on 'dynamic' please? Like incorporating it into a squat or burpee or something? I also swim and gym 3/4 times a week so, for me, the planking isn't in isolation. I like the 'challenge' aspect of fitness (little goals stop me getting bored) so that's another reason I'm doing the 30 day thing.

  • I started the 30 Day Plank Challenge on Monday so I'm up to 45 seconds. No idea how I'll manage when it gets to 2 minutes plus but will try my best. I like it because it requires little time and no equipment. I definitely felt it in my stomach muscles the first few days but not so much now, no doubt those familiar aches…

  • Wearing my size 14 (UK) non stretchy jeans out for lunch and at no point being aware of the waistband digging in or thinking, "Oh, I can't wait to get my leggings back on!". I have lived in leggings for the last few years!
  • My gym is a 30 minute brisk walk away. I don't have the option of driving because I choose not to own a car. I see the walk there (with my 8lb swim/gym kit on my back) as part of my workout.
  • I've only been going to the gym for a bit over a month but so far it was the old guy in jeans and a string vest who went off like a rocket on the treadmill, stumbled quite heavily, realised he was out of his depth, flapped a bit then managed to get off. Then he headed to the weight section, picking up what looked like a…
  • 1) Went the gym & pool 4 times this week (that's 4 weeks in a row). 2) Deliberately walked the long way home from the gym (which includes a climb over a biiiiiig bridge) on Friday, just to get in some extra steps and see if I could do it quicker than the last time I went that route (I could!). 3) Re-instated some old size…
  • I think it's also to do with the fact that I've always been big(ger). I've never really been anything less than chubby. I'm about 7lbs off my lowest ever adult weight (before I went to Uni), so after that it's all new territory. I have never been (so therefore never seen myself as) a 'normal' weight adult. I guess am just…
  • Thanks ladies - it's a very odd phenomenon. I went through my wardrobe today and I fit into a couple of (UK) 14s (from being 18/20) and even a (elasticated waist!) size 12 so I know the weight is coming off but I genuinely can't see from where. If I didn't have scales (or clothes or a tape measure) I wouldn't think I'd…
  • A 'bakery crawl', like a pub crawl but with bakeries. In my defence we (myself and my husband) walked to each one (about a 4 mile round trip) but we must have hit at least half a dozen shops - bags of sausage rolls, cheese pasties, muffins, danish pastries, cream cakes. That was a great day!
