  • OMG, Tami, I am so sorry ...((hugs)) Sounds like life is throwing a lot at you all at once. I hear that punching is a really great cardio work-out.. maybe target the closest soft surface, put which ever face on it you need and take out some aggravation and burn some cals at the same time! I'll be praying for you! ~~Veronica
  • Mine scored a 46, which isn't too bad. In fact, my place of employment is only .5 miles from my house. I walked in last year when my car broke down unexpectedly one morning, but I swear it felt a lot farther than that. Of course, that might be because it was -27 when I did it, LOL. ~~Veronica
  • I use the Flatout bread (I prefer the light Italian herb one), just bake for a few minutes (5-7), then put on your toppings, and bake again until the cheese is melted. ~~Veronica
  • Well, that was an eventful weekend! Spent 6 hours on a scaffold Saturday working on the house, got a ton done! We took a break in the middle of the day and went downtown and took the kiddos out for lunch (hubby got a big jalapeno burger with waffle fries and i got a grilled chicken salad and then we each ate half of each,…
  • Hey ya'll! Last day of summer school today (was completely BRUTAL, and am SO exhausted!), so I'm gonna take the weekend and just VEG (well as much as I can with still having the usual weekend chores to do, LOL). We are having a church cookout at the lake on Sunday afternoon, so that will be fun. I'll be bringing a big…
  • When I started my weight loss journey, I started with WW, but it didn't work for me. I think it was just too open ended, and I suspect that if I had started with MFP at that time I wouldn't have been successful either as it would have just left me with too many choices. When I started, I needed more guidance, more…
  • Laura- sounds like a really fun class! I'm jealous as I don't really have a gym close by (the closest is in Fairbanks, almost 20 miles away and I KNOW I would never make the habit to go there a few times a week!). Dorothy- I really think that if you are interested in starting, just jump in and pick a few exercises and do…
  • Tami, 6 months is a huge milestone! You are doing absolutely fabulous work, and you sound absolutely determined to keep it up, way to go! Knowledge challenge: So, I took the test and only got 67% correct.. very interesting information! Power challenge: Got my run in last night. It was a struggle to get myself moving, I am…
  • Ok, so the weekend was a bust for me at least as far as exercise goes. We did 5 hours working on c-hinking the house on Saturday (sorry for the hyphen, but it keeps wanting to censor it). Then we headed into town and bought a new lawn mower and went to the new Harry Potter movie with the kids. Sunday, after church, we…
  • Ok y'all... 100 jumping jacks done (I didn't do the sets, just did them straight). Really got the blood pumping and was fun. I ALMOST had to grab my inhaler after, but toughed it out with my little wheeze and ended up not needing it (I have exercise induced asthma- total pain in the butt, luckily a quick puff on the…
  • Ok, I weighed in this a.m. at 154.8, so an overall GAIN of .2 pounds. I'm not surprised as this hasn't been a great week, next week should be better. This week I got in 5.1 miles of jogging and .6 miles of walking, and overall 3 days of exercise. My goal was 4 days, so I need to pick it up this week. My weight lifting went…
  • Idahogirl, good job on getting your walking in. The fishing sounds like fun! I got more miles in last night..2.6 miles jogging, plus .3 warm-up/cooldown walk Have a great day ya'll! Let's see if I can go shopping today and not pick up more fresh fruit, it all looks so good right now I just keep ending up in that section.…
  • Our little girl is named Sookie. She's a year and a half old and completely spoiled rotten. We lost our 14 year old Mini Schnauzer this past Feb., so she's the only dog (although our cat THINKS she's a dog- comes when called, drinks out of the toilet, begs for food.. she's ridiculous, LOL). Sookie is definitely not a…
  • I agree,I would log it as well and definitely keep a good supply of motrin on hand, bet your muscles will be yelling at you! ~~Veronica
  • Woot! You go Kristie, great job walking, and a two thumbs up to your post. What an empowering idea that each day we get dozens of opportunities to do great things for our health! And, if we don't make the best choice, the very next choice gives us another shot at choosing to put our health above all else. Dorothy, I never…
  • A quick post before work- Power Challenge- Monday- 2.6 miles (in 30 minutes of jogging) plus .3 mile walk in warm up and cool down Also did about 20 minutes of weights (arms, shoulders and chest) Great job LauraLee with the walk and bike ride! And hope you have a better eating day today! Dorothy- great job on your mile…
  • Hi ya'll! So excited to see so many participating! Here's my update- Power Challenge- so I didn't end up getting my planned jog in on Friday. By the time hubby got home from work it was pouring down rain (and he was riding his motorcycle, so he was soaked, poor thing) so we didn't run Friday night, and we had planned on…
  • Ok.. first Knowledge Challenge: 1.Are you motivated to make long-term lifestyle changes? - Ok, this one doesn't really apply to me, because I have already made long-term changes. I started my weight loss journey in July 2009 at the weight of 216 pounds. At first, I just really concentrated on making changes to my diet. I…
  • I'd love to join in with ya'll! My starting weight is 154.6lbs. (my overall high weight was 216.8lbs. and I started at MFP at 161). Measurements: Neck- 12.75 Bust- 34.5 Waist- 31.5 Hips- 40 Thighs-22.75 Arms -12 8 Week Goal- I would like to get my weight into the 140s (so at a minimum, a loss of about 5 pounds which is…
  • Yeah, I love Oxygen too!
  • If you've left your macros at MFP's original settings, it's no wonder you are going over, it sets protein really low. I changed my ratio of protein/carbs/fats to 40/30/30 and now I stay a lot closer to my goals (although I hardly ever get it all in perfect balance.. it's more like a guideline than an actual rule, LOL).

  • We make our own, but it's not vinegary at all. We just soak the dried red chili pods until they are soft, throw them in a blender with a little water, about a T. of chopped garlic and about a teaspoon of salt, blend, then strain to get rid of the extra bits and seeds, and you end up with about 3 cups of chili sauce. Hubby…
  • The thing I remember the most about being in the 200s was pain.. pain in my knees, my hips, my feet, my back. Waking up every morning and coming down the stairs, everything creaked and popped and I just felt awful. I was 216, and just loosing that first 20 pounds and moving back into onederland took almost all that pain…
  • Oh, nice, I didn't know I'd need yoga blocks, will get some of those! I'm thinking one pull up bar at this point, and just save the extra from the second pull up bar to get some more dumbbells when they are needed! Thanks for the advice about the cardio too, that's good to know, I'll love getting back to pure cardio, not…
  • My usual go to is a lean protein (chicken, fish, leaner cuts of beef- flank or sirloin) with a whole grain (quinoa, brown rice, ww couscous, sometimes change it up and do beans/legumes instead, or a starchy vegetable like a sweet potato) and then round it out with a large serving of veggies. Our plates usually look like…
  • I keep mine open, but I don't mind when people have it closed, but it does get difficult if they ask for advice about why they aren't losing, etc. A few of my friends have completely closed diaries, and it does sometimes make it difficult to offer support. Mainly because I hesitate to say "great job" for staying under…
  • The prices are a little low for here, but it's Alaska, everything is expensive. I can usually get the generic canned items for the price listed, but produce, no way. And, of course, the quality of the produce that gets shipped up here is horrible. Went to the farmer's market to get some fresh stuff, and was so desperate…
  • I didn't even change a size until I got about 30 pounds down. I started at 216 and it was about 185 when I switched my 18s to 16s. Most people seem to not notice a change until I put on a new size, then I get all sorts of comments. ~~Veronica
  • How much protein are you getting? Do you get plenty of healthy fats? Both help with controlling hunger and keeping you satisfied. Also, are your grains whole grain with plenty of fiber? If you are eating refined, highly processed grains (white bread, white rice, pretty much white anything, LOL) it is giving you a huge…
  • If you are doing P90X in ANY version, you should be eating more and by more, I mean more than 1400 cals (you must be burning at least 300-400 calories per workout)! Now, I wouldn't add sugary things(except for right after your workout I think you could have some simple carbs) but more protein, more fat(think nuts, olives,…
