If I am taking fruit for lunch, I weigh it with peel, core, etc in the morning and eat what I will then throw out the stuff I don't eat. I refuse to bring back my core and peel and weigh when I get home. I have a hard enough time weighing and recording to begin with. Also I am not able or willing to bring a scale around…

When attempting open water swimming, its important to know your comfort zone and how far you can swim. You have to be able to swim back and you can go out further then you planned, especially with the current. It is also very very important to know the conditions at the beach, first make sure it is one where swimming is…

I am currently swimming Tue/Thu with a Masters Swim group. I am in the mid-distance so anywhere from 2500-3000 metres. Swimming for just over an hour. I am working on building my endurance because I have signed up for two open water swim races this summer. Distances are 2.1km and 3.1km. I swim mostly freestyle with a few…

I sent you a request. I swim at least twice a week. Training for 2 open water swim races this summer. (2.1 km and 3.1 km)

Swimming for me!!! I find I am getting into a zone now and the wall almost surprises me, I haven't run into it yet though. Can't wait until the water warms up enough for open water swimming, still a few months way  .I do go and spend over an hour swimming in the pool. Also biking, skiing, and hiking. And since…

Nachos, so delicious but can be so high in calorie oh and beer, add a couple pints a night and you are well on your way.

My favourite was this coconut one from two summers, Last summer I went to several Starbucks trying to get it again. And no luck. I would love to have that one again. I think I would walk out without buying anything if they didn't have that one. Its a moot point though, the town I live in does not have a Starbucks. Closest…

From the Joy of Cooking Cookbook, where I learned to boil eggs. If your eggs are at room temperature add them to the boiling water, however if you take them out of the fridge then add the eggs to the water when you turn on the hear. Follow the above recipe. The blue rings has something to do with protein breakdown.

I have enjoyed joining the Masters Swim Club in my town. I find it pushes me to do better and improve, more then on my own. I am training to improve my endurance. If you are already a competent swimmer, then you just need to start putting time and km in. My coach also told me last night that I should aim to keep my heart…

Totally Agree. A few years ago they stopped making them in house. Now they ship them to stores frozen. And its so hard to find a good bakery for donuts. I had a cookie once and found out after it was over 250 calories. It was a good cookie, but I didn't need those extra calories. I have stayed away from cafeteria style…

If you log your food on the computer the entries that are set by MFP are ones without an *. Foods that are entered by MFP users may not be correct. Always check your entries, even foods scanned using the phone app can be incorrect. My scanned jar of raspberry jam comes up as strawberry. Best to search using plural forms ie…

Don't forget to stretch afterwards as well, that is just as important as well. Foam rolling can also help. But first you must wait until the shin splints heal. Compression sleeves have also be recommended but I have not tried them. If you search on here about shin splints you will find lots of good advice

I currently live in a small town and there is the community centre and a private fitness centre. The fitness centre is around 40-60/month and it really well stocked and large, but it is still basic, lots of equipment, but just a locker room and some showers. The community centre for a gym is expensive for what you get, I…

I was supposed to wake up early and go swimming but didn't make it. Usually I can get up and go, even if I am later then I want to be, however I neglected to get to bed on time so now I did not get my swim this morning I am also tired since I got so little sleep. I need to work on the not using the snooze.

I was going to go trail biking on Saturday but had to back out due to a migraine  That ended up lasting all day. And pain pills were not helping this one. It was such a nice day that I went for a walk along our greenbelt instead. I still felt awful but it was nice to be outside in the sunshine. But I have tried hiking…

Im glad this post was resurrected. Great tips. I am doing the Surrey, BC run end of May.

BMR does change based on weight, you should recalculate after every 10lbs weight loss. The calculators usually ask about body fat percentage and that is taking into consideration. You should use the BMR results from your current weight as a guideline. You didn't get different estimates, you got estimates for different…

I just have to say, there is no requirement to drink 8 glasses a day, all fluids(coffee, tea, pop, juice, in foods) taken in help towards hydration. Your urine is the best indicator of hydration. If its pale to clear you are good, if its dark then you need to drink more. I try to keep a refillable water bottle with me at…

It is recommended that you recalculate your BMR and TDEE (TDEE includes your activity) after every 10lb loss since it does change based on your weight. If you use the MFP goal, most people have found success eating 50-75% of their exercise calories back. I couldn't see how much left you want to lose. Its important to know…

Swimming is a great exercise, there isn't a wrong way to swim for weight loss beside not having proper form. I would highly recommend taking some classes or coaching to help you with proper form and breathing. Those will help immensely. Swimming is a great cardio workout. I am currently swimming a minimum of twice a week…

hamstring, IT band, calf stretches. Plus don't forget quads and glutes.

I would pick beef over turkey any day of the week. I prefer the taste and texture. Plus the iron. We buy our beef from a rancher and buy 1/4 of a cow at a time. The taste is amazing and the beef is so tender.

I have a cuisine art that works well, but the things I hate are the fact that mine automatically turns off too soon, I wish I had a dedicated on/off button with a LONG auto off timer. I also hate that to tare I have to hold down the button for a few seconds since its also the button to switch from grams to ounces. Either a…

I love the fact that you can which entries were made by MFP users* on the computer, but I hate that that option is not seen on the phone app. There are a few features on the app that are not available on the computer and vice versa.

I do not remember how long it took him, but life happened and he wasn't able to go running 3x a week, or didn't feel ready and he would redo the week, sometimes more then once. He is still waiting for running to be fun though!! He did mention that running the race was much better then just running/training.

My boyfriend just completed the C25K program and ran his first 5k race. He ended up repeating weeks several times until he felt ready to proceed. He ended up beating his time on the race, by so much that I wasn't there at the finish line waiting for him. :embarassed: You aren't failing, you are improving.

I haven't read through all the post so not sure if someone has mentioned this or not, but I think you are confusing your BMR with TDEE. BMR (Basel Metabolic Rate) is the bare minimum you need to eat if you were in a coma to stay alive. You should not eat less then that. Your TDEE minus (5% to 20%) includes your activity…

I get shin splints, really bad if I don't stop and rest until the pain goes away. I am trying again and going much much slower. I would even get shin splints from following a C25K similar program. I am going to go a lot slower, plus talk to my physiotherapist about it as well.

Chocolate chip cookies, Cherry cheese cake, fruit crisp pies with ice cream I had the best toffee pudding at a bar recently, the boyfriend did not get a bite. All homemade with the very best ingredients.
