  • My treats are usually fitness-related. For example, when I can fit comfortably into my jeans again, I'm going to buy a new set of workout DVDs. Also, I don't know if you'd call it a treat, but I let myself have little guilt-free splurges every now and then. For example, I'm going out to a fancy brunch with friends this…
  • Part of it is emotional eating or boredom, but there's nothing to offset that now. I'm sure people overeat in the old days, but back when they were working on farms or at physically demanding factory jobs was the norm. Even though there weren't as many women in the workforce, housework was a lot more physical, too. Also,…
  • I love how so many of you put it into perspective. It's "break fast," with no specified time, despite all the indoctrination from cereal commercials in my misspent youth. The Trix Rabbit and that weird cuckoo bird lied to me. I'm going to opt for a late morning snack on the days I don't feel like an early smoothie. I…
  • Redeem the day as best as you can. Healthy choices for the rest of the day, coupled with some extra exercise, does wonders. Whether or not you do damage control today, don't let it affect your tomorrow, or week, or month. It's so easy to let one bad day sabotage your plans. We all have little slip ups. That just means we…
  • Thanks, these are great! I made up my shopping list, so off to the grocery store to stock up on some good options.
  • I tend to be compulsive and overly organized in most areas of my life, so I think maybe the frequent weighing is just a bit too much. It gave me comfort at first to do it, even if the scale went up, because I could adjust my plan accordingly. But then I think I started attaching too much important. Since I'm compulsive…
  • I plan to get started next week (probably Monday, depending on the weather). I'm trying to figure out whether I should bring my dog or go it alone. We walk 5K pretty often, although he likes to stop and sniff. But he adores running, so I know he'd love to do the fast parts without stopping. I'm lucky that it's cold here,…
  • That's a great point about the fluctuation, and that's part of what frustrated me before. I weighed in the morning because I can go up or down quite a bit just based on time of day, and of course time of month, too. When I had my initial weight loss, I bought lots of new pants and got rid of almost all my old ones. The new…
  • I'm big on walking for exercise and am kicking C25K around as a way to kick things up a notch. Would love any like-minded friends. This thread looks like it would be great motivation to finally put the idea into action.
  • Wow! That is insanely motivating! You are my hero.
  • Thanks for the feedback. I think I'm going to try ditching the scale for a while and see how it goes. It was realizing that my pants were getting close to not fitting that alerted me how far I'd slipped when things got busy and I let my eating habits slack off. I think photos will be a big motivator too because I want to…
  • Very individual thing. I actually do better with exercise at night in terms of not having it disturb my sleep and being energetic for the workout. Unfortunately I usually have to do it in the morning or time will get away from me and I don't get around to it. Go by your own body's preference as well as which time works…
  • This was very challenging for me (almost-50 woman with 25 to 30 pounds to lose). I did it last year, and it whipped my butt but I was able to make it through with some modifications for my old body. I like the fact that you switch around between different workouts so it didn't get boring like some other programs too. I…
  • I'm not active in the Fitbit community due to time constraints, but I'd love more Fitbit-using friend here. Feel free to add me! I have a Flex, which I got because I kept forgetting to put on my One, and once upon a time I had the original Fitbit model.
  • Fitbit Flex fan here. I had the original model, then graduated to the One. Loved it to pieces, but I'd often forget to put it on. That's the main reason I switched to the Flex. It's great now that I've gotten over missing the display. Waterproof is a plus because I wear it into the show. I pretty much only take it off to…
  • Curves, Planet Fitness, and the like are "entry level" gyms. That's fine if you're just dipping your toes in the fitness pool to test the water. It's not so good if you'll easily let yourself get drawn into sticking with that routine even if you get yourself ready for something more challenging. I'm all for people having a…
  • I love JMBR although it really kicks my butt. I recommend it because you rotate through different workouts, so it doesn't get boring as quickly as many routines. I did it last year and am going to explore T25 or 10 Minute Trainer this year. Can't speak for those, though, as I haven't tried them yet.
  • I would take 30 for sure. The heat drains the energy right out of me, and I'm a heavy sweater. At 30 I'll warm up quickly enough from the exercise.
  • Darn, I'm feeling lonely! Still hoping to connect with new friends here.
  • Thanks so much for the info. I'll admit I'm leaning toward 10 Minute Trainer.
  • Vitamin D and omega 3 is exactly what my doctor recommended for me, too, based on my blood work. I turn 50 this year and am pre menopausal. Starting to get some symptoms, nothing too crazy yet, just little hot flashes and an occasional little anxiety thing or a "don't touch me" awful skin sensation or fidgetiness. Ah the…
  • Trac12345 I'm personally trying to move away from high carb snacks on my doctor's advice. I buy the little bags of Planters mixed nuts so the portion is controlled. I also like string cheese, fruit, veggies, a small serving of cottage cheese, or yogurt. I find it helps to have a variety of healthy snack items around.…
