You may find this link - as well as the rest of the site - to be of interest. Personally, having dropped ~100 lbs myself, I strongly (no pun intended) recommend a lifting program while you are dropping that weight ... to help you retain your muscle mass, enhance your strength and your visual shape. Best of luck! ETA: I'm…

Has your husband had his eyesight checked lately? I just peeked at your pics. You look great!

My last straw was the double-whammy of seeing myself in my "before" phone, and facing possible knee replacement surgery. Both my "after" photo and my knee are much, much better.

That's not quite correct. "You use energy no matter what you're doing, even when sleeping. The BMR Calculator will calculate your Basal Metabolic Rate (BMR); the number of calories you'd burn if you stayed in bed all day." You listed your height, age and BMR, but not your weight, so I went to…

I've got your back!

This made my day! Thank you!

When I saw the title, my immediate suggestion was going to be ... read this: http://community.myfitnesspal.com/en/discussion/1161603/so-you-want-a-nice-stomach But it sounds like you're already doing it. It may just be a matter of time, patience and sticking to your program. PS - Congrats on your 100 lb loss!!!

I started at 279, got down to the 170s. From about the time I hit Onederland my Mrs starting with the "you're not going to lose any more, are you?" When I hit the 180s, and the questioning became more strident, I pulled out the BMI charts, showed here where I was, where I was going. I pulled out our wedding photos and…

This was very informative. I ran mine between fit at 21 and fit at 51, and the 30 year drop was 150 cals (BMR) to 175 cals (sedentary maintenance). So, while my metabolic needs decreased slightly over 3 decades, it was definitely not the cause of me going from fit to fat. The cause was more food and less activity ... and…

^^^ This I lost 100 lbs in my early 50s, after spending my 40s making excuses for my weight gains. It's all down to food intake and activity level. A friend once said to me "you don't get less active because of your age; you age because you get less active" My extension to that is "you don't get heavier as you get older,…

Another option I did along the way was to eat at a deficit M-F, and maintenance on weekends. It helped to break things up a bit.
-
I didn't purposely plan to do this, but it's not far off from my own experience. I noticed that the suggested calories for my maintenance weight happened to match the calories needed when I started losing, and I took that as a win. It meant I could start my lifetime eating plan right away. It worked for me! ETA: I should…

Well done! Keep up the great work!

Getting back to the OP ... may I recommend that rather than "dieting regularly", you get on a "regular sustainable diet", in conjunction with your work outs, so that you maintain at a healthy level, rather than yo-yo. PS - Enjoy your vacation!

Thank you. #16 drives me batty. I've given up correcting that one.
-
Personally, I like doing a split of both. From your goals, it sounds like an emphasis more toward lifting might work better for you, but I'll defer to those with more background. Best of luck!

I walked off my first 75lbs, and burned the rest via elliptical and weights. I used to do 1 hour walks, and worked my way up to 30 minute ellipticals. Over time, I kept the duration the same, but increased the intensity. Per my heart rate monitor, I'm burning as much as 400 cals per 30 mins. Walking 4 mph in 30 mins was…

Lost my first 75 lbs via mostly walking. So wimpy. ;)
-
Wow! Just, wow!
-
I do a weekly plan of deficit cals Mon-Fri, maintenance cals Sat-Sun. A nice, sustainable balance.
-
You can have as many cheat days as you can fit into your total weekly calorie target. After you go beyond that target, you either a) lose weight more slowly than you targeted, b) don't lose weight, or c) gain weight. It's your choice.
-
^^^ Agreed
-
Looking at your exercise diary, the calories burned for the times listed look a bit high. For example, you note 182 cals for 10 mins on the elliptical. In comparison, per my heart rate monitor, I burned 538 cals across 40 mins, which works out to 134 per 10 mins. Likewise, when walking, at a 4 mph pace, I burn ~120 cals…

2014 was a very good year for me ...

Agreed and thanks.

Yeah, I'll spot ya, grandma! ;)

Over the years, I put on a lot of weight. I bought into the "age-induced metabolism slowdown" excuse too. The reality was, it was mostly me slowing down, cutting back on my activity level, rather than my base metabolism slowing down. Oh ... and the extra calories I was taking in while I wasn't doing much activity didn't…

Don't! I did. I'm now scarred for life.

I'm in my 50s and lost 100+ lbs in less than a year (gained some back over Christmas, so sitting at -97 presently). How did I get there: 1) calorie deficit, 2) exercise. Exercise started with just walking ... all I could do given a bad knee at the time. Over time, I walked farther and faster. After about 5-6 months, I…
