Based on your numbers, I'm calculating that you've set your loss to ~1.5 lbs per week? It may work for you, it may not. Your body will tell you. If you're in this for the long haul, you'll likely find it more comfortable to eat a little bit more, perhaps closer to 1900-2000, plus some of your workout calories.

Your metabolism does slow down with age, but I believe the bigger problem is that our activity level drops as we age. After packing on weight in my 30s and 40s, due to eating more and moving less, I reversed it in my 50s by eating less and moving more. So, it may take a little bit more effort now at 60 versus 30, if you…

So @EngineerB , you've had the feedback, what did you decide?

Related story ... my wife likes to cook. She didn't want to change what/how she cooks. I said "fine ... cook what/how you want, just note or let me note everything you put into the dishes, then I can figure out the appropriate portions sizes that fit into my meal plans". Then, everyone was happy ... she got to cook/eat…

Where's the Like button when you need it? Well done!

Nope. It's all about portion control. Log your pizza, and watch your calorie count for the day. (Eating lots of salad vegetables helps fill the stomach)

I can't comment on your Zumba burn, but I can comment on your walking. I did a lot of walking while dropping weight, and checked online calculators, MFP, fitbit and a Polar HRM. They were all pretty close ... 130-140 cals per mile when I was at my heaviest, 105-115 per mile at target weight. If you walked 15 mins at a very…

Perhaps I should have said "tiny personal trainer" rather than "gremlin" and "motivating you" rather than "glaring at you", etc.
-
I can see your point with regards to cash and accuracy. The value to me is to have the gremlin on my wrist glaring at me saying "get off your a** and get moving!" all day long.

I was so careful at the beach to make sure I had taken out of my pocket when I went into the water, but I was so hot after the walk back that all I could think of was running and jumping into the pool. Oops.

I currently have the Fitbit ChargeHR, but previously I had the One. The One went with me everywhere, and really encouraged me to up my activity level. If evening came, and I hadn't gotten in my 10k steps, I went out for a walk after dinner until I hit my target. If I was close to another big level (15k, 20k, etc), I'd get…

Not sure where you are coming from, but I can understand. When I moved to the UK, I started bad habits with chips (fries) with everything, along with endless supplies of chocolates and biscuits (cookies). Eventually I adjusted. When I've been on holidays in various European cities, I've found I've lost weight, even though…

Augmenting the highlighted comments from my own perspective/experience ...* As the one who was nagged for years, I can say from my own experience ... don't. For me it led to more frustration and more overeating of crap food. * There will eventually be a moment of self-revelation and self-determination, at which point he…

Walking, walking and more walking for the first 6 months, until I got off half my target weight - relieving the pressure on my knees - and then weights plus elliptical, along with one long walk each weekend.

This picture at the beginning of the article ... ... is only partially true. Detox will also cleanse you of your cash.

I can understand your situation.* In the 15 years leading up to Dec 2013, I had slowly and steadily gained 100 lbs * On Jan 1 2014, I started logging and walking, for 6 months, and later added lifting and elliptical, and dropped all that weight. * In 2015, I got lost, and over the course of the year, having slacked off in…

I have arthritis and other issues with one knee, which prevents me from running, and makes a lot of HIIT work difficult. I spent a good 6+ months focused on walking and calorie/macro intake. I lost a significant amount of weight in that time frame, and then started up on the stride machine ... similar to elliptical, but…

I'll occasionally have oats, PB and a banana for breakfast, especially on a high-activity day. PB is great ... just make sure you measure your servings as the calories can add up.

Having put on weight through my 30s and 40s, and having lost it in my early 50s, I can tell you from my experience that losing that weight will make you feel 10+ years younger. Just do it!
-
Well done!
-
Is it possible that, having switched your order, you are now eating a little bit more at dinner than you were before?
-
I dropped 100+ lbs. For the first 80 lbs, walking was my main activity, as my knees cannot take running. For the remaining 20 lbs, I joined a gym, and jumped onto the elliptical, and hit the weights. I also did a long walk on weekends. Most importantly though, I maintained an overall calorie deficit. Walking as exercise is…

I hope that was a typo! He's 6'5", 375, and works a physically strenuous job. This input is nowhere near what he needs. OP ... please do not follow the above advise.
