  • Couldn't help but be a numbers geek about how "fun" that day might be. * 1 oz of 80 proof (40% alcohol) popped up as 64 calories * 1500 calories at 64 cals/oz is 23.4 oz * since I don't drink vodka, converting that to 4% beer means 234 oz of beer * 234 oz of beer is nearly 20 bottles at 12 oz per bottle That's a lot of…
  • That's interesting, because I log my blueberries in grams ... (edited to add) - glad to see you coming around! Lots of people here have been through that same "I don't want to weigh/measure everything!" battle, but then once they relent, try it for a week or two, and start seeing changes, they join in on the fun. Good luck!
  • OP - you might find this an interesting read: community.myfitnesspal.com/en/discussion/10012907/logging-accuracy-consistency-and-youre-probably-eating-more-than-you-think/p1
  • OP - No need to weigh every individual nut, but rather than graze on them along the day and then guess on your total intake, I recommend weighing out a portion at the beginning of the day (for me it's typically 50g of mixed almonds & cashews), logging that, and sticking to just that portion. If you want more, weigh and log…
  • @WinoGelato - I did just this, albeit a couple years ago when I first started on MFP. They correlated within about 50 cals, pretty much across my full start->end range. So, I just used the Scooby "sedentary" numbers throughout my loss period, and manually entered them into MFP as my pre-exercise targets. Worked for me.…
  • Yup. If it makes you feel any better, I was just looking over my logs, and I see that in the last two weeks of Dec 2014 I jumped 15 lbs, and in the first week of Jan 2015, 11 of those lbs vanished. The other 4 disappeared over the next 3 weeks, just by resuming normal habits. Happy 2017!
  • Sounds like my annual Christmas week, where I go on the "See Food Diet" ... you know, "See Food, Eat Food". You probably loaded up on cakes/sweets and salt, and you've piled on predominantly water weight. I have the usual "Christmas 10" and it's gone in 2-3 weeks, as most of it is water weight, and the actual couple pounds…
  • Yes, and I read and listened for a few months before posting anything of note as well, but if one has been around long enough to know that one is going to get shot for a post like this, why would one start a post like this? That said, and trying to be constructive rather than conspiratorial, the Slimfast path is not a…
  • Since I first mentioned the Scooby site and TDEE numbers, note that I said the calculation was for a "sedentary" person, which I believe should give a close approximation to the MFP/NEAT baseline number (happy to be corrected). My purpose for doing so was to show that there was no way MFP should be telling him to eat 1200…
  • Only 3 posts, and yet you seem to know that you're about to be shot at for this post? Hmmm ... (edited to add): I see 2 of those posts were your own replies, that makes your opening post your first time posting. Hmmm ...
  • Hey, First, deep relaxing breaths! OK, now I ran your numbers (male, 198.5 lbs, 5'9", age 46) through the calculator at scoobysworkshop.com/accurate-calorie-calculator/, and for a sedentary person trying to cut calorie intake by 20%, I got the following results: So, as many others have said, your daily target of 1200…
  • - I started with a Fitbit One, which I thought was great. I clipped it to my belt, or just tossed it into my pocket. It worked flawlessly for me until I was on summer holiday ... I jumped into the pool, forgetting it was in my pocket (I remembered in that split-second between jumping from the side and landing in the water…
  • Oats, milk, banana, blueberries, tea. One of my regular breakfast dishes.
  • Echoing the sentiment of most people here ...* walking helped clear my head and airways, and it upped my fitness level * mindful eating + calorie counting drove the majority of my weight loss
  • At the risk of repeating what others have said, I was never checked for sleep apnea, but when I was at my heaviest, my wife found my snoring unbearable, and she was starting to raise concerns that I should get checked for apnea. As I lost weight, my snoring abated, and my wife had to find other things to grumble about me.…
  • Weak ankles or not, it's primarily about the intake. At 100 lbs overweight, my knees were in horrible shape. In the beginning, the only exercise I could do was light walking. My focus was on my intake. As the pounds came off, I could walk more. As more weight came off, I could jump onto the elliptical trainer. I still…
  • Me :12 Lns: 1* Streak: 0 The 13th was an unlucky night!
  • Or you look at something tasty, and debate with yourself whether it's worth x,000 additional steps so that you can stay within your target.
  • I did a test on this. If you are doing an activity that does not permit your arm to swing, if you put the fitbit in your pocket it will count your steps correctly - for walking at least.
  • Agreed!!!! A little brain power is needed to analyse the data sometimes. Maybe the burn is a little high or low, maybe the input is a little off. If the (bodyweight) scale is not going fast enough - or maybe faster than expected - you have to be ready to make adjustments.
  • Try putting your stats into this calculator - http://scoobysworkshop.com/accurate-calorie-calculator
  • When you are about to go to bed, but you notice one of your Fitbit friends has just passed you, so you pace about the house until you are tops of the leader board again.
  • One morning I had my fitbit on the charger downstairs, and went upstairs without it. That evening, I asked my wife to walk up the stairs with my fitbit so I could get the credit back. She did it, but the look she gave me said a) "you are a lunatic" and b) "just this once".
  • Oh my, I just did this tonight! This morning, I logged dinner, planning to eat leftovers. My wife decided to cook a new dish for tonight and I'm struggling with "but, I've already logged!" Must.get.a.life!
  • Given how muddy and wet I got on my hike today - courtesy of English winter weather - I'm starting to see the attraction of the indoor walk.
  • If I compare walking on a treadmill to walking outside, I'd say I get more out of an outside walk. However, it's a bit of comparing apples to oranges. You could get a good workout either way, depending on how much effort you put in. I suppose the only way you'd know is to use a heart rate monitor for both and compare.…
  • Not having seen the videos, I would imagine one thing you would miss is walking up and down hills. I'm with you with regards to English weather ... but I have good waterproof clothing and footwear to address that. For me, nothing like a bit of fresh air.
