I had the same thing, went to a specialist that says this is very common (something like 20% of people have this issue). He said, cutting edge research at the time (5-8 years ago) said the running theory is that some bodies just don't know how to handle sugar well and sometimes it just decides to produce fat on the liver…

When I had this, my trainer suggested two things which worked: 1) Zig zag your calories for a week. If you goal is 2k, eat 1800 one day and 2200 the next. Try to confuse your body. 2) I haven't looked at your diary, but my body as very sugar sensitive. I had to get strict one week on sugar just to confuse my body. As for…

I realize I am being a winy pain in the butt. I just needed to vent. I guess I am just frustrated I took for granted losing weight so easily before. In a way, not being able to lose weight easily makes me more determined. I know I have to work harder and I don't want that to go to waist so I am much more strict. I'm…

Free weights make a big difference over machines because they force the small stabilization muscles and complimentary muscles to work. I try to mix them in just like you. As for feeling uncomfortable in the free weights section - I felt that way too. But I realized that the people there have respect for those who are…

Oh, as a side note. If you do strength training. Try to increase your protein to help you recover. Even if this is eating two slices of lunchmeat when you snack on some fruit. Another good option is a protein mix that doesn't taste horrible. Body Fortress Super Advanced Whey Protein tastes like a milkshake and you can buy…

This is how I approached it when I started doing the same thing - This was with the help of my trainer. It worked for me, take it with a grain of salt, and know I am no expert. I was like you, I am in my late 30's and considered obese. When I do strength training, I work in groups. Day 1 - Legs Day 2 - Back, Biceps, and…

If I may make a suggestion, keep it simple - especially at first. My very first routine on legs (3 Sets of 10): 1) Leg Lunges each Leg 2) Ball Squats (Where an exercise ball is between your back and wall, then squat) or "sissy squats" (don't let the name fool you) 3) Calf Raises. Escalated to (3 sets of 10): 1. Leg lunges…

I can speak to Jawbone, I've gone trough 3 - from the previous release to the latest release. I loved the look and loved the app. However it would stop syncing, stop charging, or just go dead as a doorknob. After three I went to the Garmin Vivofit because I know they make stuff that can take a beating from my hiking…

Me too - I'll look up Geocaching by terrain and distance, often in the hiking trains in N. Georgia Mountains. Makes the hike more purposeful and less boring. Same with Ingress, I would do this at lunch in more urban areas to do the same thing.

+1 to GlenPerk. I had the exact same problem a few years ago and plateued for a month. My trainer said the same thing - the get your heart up, go go go, with no rest is very much like circuit training. He explained its a very good routine but your body gets used to it pretty quick so you have to constantly change. Don't…

I ran into this as well, and I can share what has worked for me over the past 2 months. Under "Cardiovascular" is a "Strength Training" option. Regardless of weight, if you are doing a routine similar to X sets with Y reps with a minute or two rest in between - you can count on the calories in My Fitness Pal. Essentially,…

Thanks for the advice everyone. Sounds like what I am doing is working.

I always try to take two consecutive days to allow my body recover (like Sat/Sun). My trainer has also recommended that every 12 weeks you take a solid week off exercise to really let your body repair and rest. To take pressure off the same muscles over and over, I try to mix up my cardio as well, Bike one day, treadmill…

Anxiety and OCD - then they feed of each other which doesn't help. I managed it with counseling and techniques for years but my counselor told me many years ago there is a point I may need medication. I fought that for a long time. However, late last year I got on a very low dose of Lexapro and it has made a huge…

I've owned a few and just purchased a new one. Also talked to some Fitbit Owners. Here is what I took away. More people use the FitBit so the "Social" aspect will be there more. However, the new FitBit Force is getting negative feedback as it is highly water sensitive. Also I know two people who lost their Fitbit Bands…

Almost 2.5 months and I tried everything - finally I went to my trainer to for help and we looked at what I was eating. In this specific case (I hit 3 plateaus of about 4 weeks over a 2 year period), I was having a 12oz can of Coca-Cola a day. It was my single treat and form of caffeine and I allocated calories for it,…
