  • Only if it has chocolate on it and in it.
  • Strange. Researchers did not find that alternate day fasting was detrimental at all. That would be three or four fast days every week.
  • Are you talking about Bootea Teatox? If so, the laxatives in the bedtime tea might explain some initially weight loss. However, if you are not plagued by constipation, Senna and Psyllium are neither required nor advisable. Everything else - well, when I want to drink an Oolong tea, I'll get me Oolong, samegoes for mate,…

  • I've just tried that calculator as well. Using my gender, height, weight and body fat % it still tells me to eat 155 g of protein per day on a low carb diet. I am heavy but not that heavy... IIFYM suggests 1.25 g protein per lb lean body mass which seems way too high.

  • If you have high blood pressure you might want to try cutting your sodium intake; some people with hypertension respond badly to high sodium diets. However, if it does not affect you there is no need to worry. To go low sodium you have to avoid processed foods as much as possible - sausages, luncheon meat, cheese and other…
  • Actually, there is some research showing that Apple cider vinegar lowers the blood sugar levels in the morning if it is taken in the evening. This applies to diabetics though, healthy non-diabetics do not have raised blood sugar levels in the morning. There is no evidence to support all the other claims about ACV that are…
  • What meds are you taking and what underlying health issues are there? Sometimes eating and appetite is indeed out of the eater's control. Some antidepressants for example are known to increase appetite and cause weight gain.
  • OP, this might give you some insight: http://www.bbc.co.uk/insideout/south/series2/food_sensitivity_allergy_vega_tests.shtml It is about a machine called Vega but the alleged method and underlying "science" is the same. Basically, it is a modern pendulum for those that frown upon mystics and crystal balls.
  • I agree with some of the above posters that the logging has room for improvement. I noticed for example that yesterday's food diary stops with breakfast. Then the Clover butter (for the non-UK readers: Clover is a spreadable butter). Also Oats So Simple: yes, 186 kcal in a pack. But you have to add milk to make it unless…
  • Cholesterol is an important part of the human body, it is a part of cell membranes. All animals ( that includes us humans) therefore produce cholesterol and all cells in the body are able to synthesise it. Our bodies account for dietary cholesterol by adjusting the rate of production. Eating "no cholesterol" fats or…
  • As others have said: running at your weight is bad news for all the weight bearing joints. So stick to walking. You can intensify the walking if you take up Nordic Walking. The use of poles makes you walk faster and also adds a mild upper body work out.
  • Why 5 days of 1200? You should be doing 2 days of 500 kcal for a woman and 5 days normal eating, at least your BMR if not your TDEE.
  • Juice + is not a "juice diet". It does not involve real fruit, at least not for the dieter; it is a food supplement made from processed fruits - a miracle pill, if you want to believe the spin. The website states that the journey from fruit to Juice+ high quality nutrition involves growing, harvesting, processing,…
  • Try not to puke on the carpet.
  • What do you think makes honey so sweet? Aspartame? Saccharine? Or maybe sugar? Is that where they put all the fat cells sucked out during liposuction? Into the orange juice from concentrate? No food as such - raw, "clean" or processed - as such "will store fat cells in your waistline". The amount and combination does it.…
  • I usually have several books on the go, some for entertainment and fun, some more educational, some paper books, some ebooks. At present I am reading The Map by T.S. Learner. Nothing spectacular, just some good old fashioned adventure novel. Then I've got The Corpse Reader by Antonio Garrido. A historical novel based…
  • Dito. One thing that surprises me in all the "healthy food is so expensive" answers and in particular the "high end food producer": have you never heard of cupboard staples? Oats, beans, rice, pasta, eggs? Eggs and beans, lots of healthy proteins and dirt cheap. Why a high end food producer has to buy nasty cheap sausages…
