Still literally impossible. It would be nearly impossible to believe a 200 lb person in a coma could maintain their weight on an 800 calorie diet but to believe an active 200 lb person with 3 hours of cardio a day could maintain on 800 calories? Literally impossible. Unless you happen to live in a different universe than…

Do you want someone to hold your hand and tell you you're great or do you want someone to hold you accountable for the decisions you make? Figure that out and talk to your partner about what kind of support you're expecting from them.

Just a note, 2 pop tarts (1 package) are 400 calories, not 800. Unless you had 4 pop tarts (2 packages).

I said doing that while gaining weight was impossible, not that doing that was impossible. It is very possible to run yourself ragged by doing a ridiculous amount of exercise while eating almost nothing but you can't possibly be getting fatter while doing that. It would violate basic energy conservation laws.

Yeah, it's literally impossible to be doing what you're doing. No human in the world can eat 600-800 calories a day while doing 3 hours of cardio and gain weight. Not unlikely, not rare, literally physically impossible. Metabolic adaptation is possible, but not to the degree you're suggesting. You're claiming your body is…

There's no way you're eating 1200-1400 a day while standing on your feet for 8 hours and running a mile while weighing 258 lbs and not losing. Two possibilities: 1) You're way overestimating calories burned from exercise and eating back too much. 2) You're eating more than you think. I'm 165 right now and I lose if I sit…

Lol at the responses saying how useless BMI is because it doesn't hold true for every single person. No **** it doesn't, it's a rough guideline for an average person and works quite well for that. It's not a rigid doctrine that you have to follow blindly, if you have reason to believe it doesn't apply to you then use some…

Here's some quick and dirty numbers to explain it. Note, these numbers are used to illustrate the point, they are not exact numbers that will apply to any specific person. Let's say you're roughly average and the total number of calories your body burns a day is 2500. Let's say you start eating 1500 calories a day to lose…

I love how you conveniently left out the most dangerous ingredient they sneak into all diet drinks - loads and loads of dihydrogen monoxide. It's responsible for thousands of deaths per year through ingestion into the lungs which causes people to be unable to get sufficient oxygen into their blood which causes death. Ban…

I know it's cliche but for non-runners, the best time to aim for is just any time so long as you complete it. Get your foot in the door. Set a time for yourself so you can beat it the next time you go running. I just started running after having *never* ran in my life. On my first day I ran/walked 5k in 40:00 minutes and I…

Are you drinking more water on your low calorie diet? Proper hydration can make you have to go more often as your body won't try to hold on to it to for longer to re-absorb water.

Diets are flexible. Run a net caloric deficit over a long period of time and you will lose weight. You don't ruin a diet by going out once a month and having some beers and a burger with friends after a particularly difficult midterm. The only trick is just making sure the exception doesn't become the rule and you aren't…

I think there's really two issues at play here. First of all, the advice given was NOT "eat whatever you want", it was "eat whatever you want, so long as it fits your calories". There is a massive difference between those 2 statements. Secondly, healthy eating isn't the black and white issue that you're making it out to…

I lost all my weight eating whatever I wanted so long as my calories added up by the end of the day. These days I'm watching my macros more closely as I'm making sure I get 100-125g of protein a day, but otherwise filling the rest of my day with whatever I feel like eating.

His answer was perfectly fine given the stated assumptions. She asked a near impossible question and he gave a best guess approximation. The real answer is a healthy dose of "who the hell knows" with a side of "no ****ing clue" but his answer is a decent guess given the ridiculousness of the question.

For you stats, 165 and 5'10", your BMR should be around 1826. I wouldn't go lower than 1750 + eating exercise calories back. If you have a condition that results in a lower metabolism and you have a valid reason to believe your BMR is lower than 1826, you can try going at 1500 + eating exercise calories back. I definitely…

What's your height?

It's fallacious to assume an out of shape trainer doesn't know anything about personal fitness, but it's nothing to really take offense over. People expect experts to look the role. A personal trainer should be fit and trim. Just like a doctor shouldn't show up in sweat pants and a wife beater. Does that mean an overweight…

Glucose isn't bad for you. Fructose isn't bad for you. Sucrose isn't bad for you. Sugars are not bad for you. Don't worry about going over on sugar, so long as you're meeting your other requirements (calories, protein, etc). So long as you're not consuming hundreds of grams a day of sugar and running a risk of developing…

It's not optimal, but it's a method to start with and *far* from bad. The *best* way to lose weight is to count calories while hitting all your macros and micros perfectly. However, it can be quite a shock going from "eat as much as you want of whatever you want" to "eat very little of things you don't necessarily want"…

He's absolutely correct. Intellectually dishonest, sure - but still correct. The vast majority of diet plans fail and most people simply can not keep weight off permanently. This is just as true of calorie counting as it is of any other diet. However, the way he is wording his statement he is implying that calorie counting…

If I'm reading your post correctly, in the last 2 days you've probably consumed ~450 calories combined - that's eating disorder levels of low, you should up your calories significantly and immediately for health reasons. I empathize with your desire to lose weight quickly, but starving yourself to death is not a way to do…

One day won't mess you up, no matter how much you eat. Yesterday I ate nearly triple my normal intake. I started out the morning with some leftover chocolates (200 Calories), then had a nice big burger (600 Calories), a tall skinny vanilla latte (100 calories), an awesome milkshake (600 calories), some leftover chicken…

This probably isn't what you wanted to hear, but the problem isn't the tool it's the user. You told this website that you wanted to lose TWO lbs per WEEK. That's a 7000 calorie deficit per week, or 1000 calorie deficit per day. Is it really a surprise that it gave you an absurdly low calorie target? The reason you kept…
