  • The sweater I'm wearing in my main picture--obviously it technically fits, but I can't wait to put it on and not feel it cling to every dimple and fold in my body. A sports bra that I optimistically bought in a size 38. No. Ouch. Wasn't even CLOSE to clasping. I've never really been skinny, so I don't own anything smaller…
  • Definitely this. I just measured myself last night and I'm apparently wearing bras--get this--5 CUP SIZES too small! (I had no idea you were supposed to bend over to find your cup size in modern sizing, so I'd been measuring myself wrong for years.) Plus, a lot of stores only carry bras for women with smooth, shallow,…
  • This! I can't convince my mother to let me buy Nutella instead of whatever healthier, lower-sugar versions are on the shelves below it because "Nutella's basically frosting!" I just want to point out to her that even the natural, "healthy" alternatives are still made of chocolate, nuts, and salt.
  • My dad, bless his heart, TRIES to be supportive, but he's a 6'2" marathon runner who's never had a weight problem a day in his life and he's constantly saying the wrong things. -"I know how you feel, after I had that knee surgery last year I couldn't exercise for about a month and half. I got so fat, I probably put on 8…
  • Well, everyone has to die sometime. Plus, The Onion made a compelling argument on this topic yesterday: http://www.theonion.com/articles/study-links-meat-sugar-consumption-to-early-death,35447/ (warning: contains lots of pictures of delicious grilled meats and sugary desserts)
  • Same thing happened to me. I'd heard such great things, bought a small box of it, took a swig, and spat it out immediately. How do people drink that crap?
  • Yeah, I was shocked by the 1/4 cup serving size for rice or quinoa until I realized that translated to a full cup after cooking.
  • Trader Joe's peanut satay noodle boxes. What do you MEAN I'm only supposed to eat half? Boxed macaroni and cheese. If I'm going to be eating mac and cheese, I plan ahead of time to fit it into my daily goals, because there's no way I'm sharing that cheesy goodness.
  • East of Eden by John Steinbeck. I'm only on chapter 5 but I'm hooked.
  • I don't, simply because I feel gross after I eat a lot, even when I just eat close really close to my calorie limit. I don't think there's anything wrong with them as long as you can trust yourself to keep your eating habits in check the rest of the time.
  • Fish. I know, I know, omega-3s, yadda yadda yadda, but I can't stand it unless it's paired with something unhealthy like mayonnaise, Panko crumbs, or a deep-fryer. Pita bread and all its derivatives. Unless it's slathered with so much hummus and tzatziki that I can't taste it, pita bread grosses me out. Kale chips. My…
  • I was able to stay on my spin bike for twice as long as I could last week at the same level of difficulty and I kept up with my pilates schedule despite being sick. Oh, and I lost a pound, which officially dropped me from obesity class 3 (high risk/morbid obesity) to class 2 (moderate risk obesity--small victories... very,…
  • In my experience, there's no dinner that doesn't benefit from the addition of ground cumin. You can mix it into the avocados/guacamole or ketchup dressing, or even use it to season the burgers. I use it in guacamole because it adds a really rich, meaty taste.
  • I've never been a big fan of breakfast, so I like to eat something really light like a Thomas everything bagel thin with cream cheese, scrambled eggs or egg whites on whole wheat or potato bread toast, or Open Nature instant oatmeal. Sometimes I add a banana, some peach yogurt, or a glass of passion orange guava juice for…
  • Thanks for all the advice! I own a food scale and about 50 measuring cups, and I use them religiously (which drives my family crazy--at least once a day I hear, "Weight Watchers doesn't make you count calories from vegetables!"). I've been trying to only eat back a portion of my exercise calories to leave room for error (I…
  • Well-worded post and amazing results!
  • Oh yeah, I can't STAND gyms. I've been doing the Blogilates beginner calendar and it's really helped me stay on track.
  • Sending you a request. I'm really trying to stay active on here every day and get lots of similarly active friends, since the last time I tried MFP I had only one friend doing it and as soon as she quit, I did.
  • I eat about 1200-1300 NET calories a day (I usually eat back a portion of my exercise calories), but I really do feel satisfied eating that amount because it's mostly made up of veggies, fruit, lean meat, and grains, which keep me full for hours--I NEVER starve myself and I have a healthy emotional relationship with my…
  • I'll be your friend! I'm down 10 pounds but still have at least 97 to go.
  • You've got an obese friend in me! I've been on MFP for two weeks (this time around--was on here years before but gave up almost immediately) and just today dropped from class 3 to class 2 obesity. Still got ~60 pounds to go before I drop down to "overweight". Don't give up!
  • Gorgeous! You look so happy in those size 6 jeans, and your family is just adorable.
  • I really don't know! I've never taken weight loss all that seriously before, so I have no idea how quickly I tend to lose weight over the long term. I'm hoping to get under 200 pounds within 3 months, and out of the obese BMI category entirely within 6. Of course, that's being optimistic and assuming I don't hit a long…
  • Blogilates (www.blogilates.com) is a great, structured way to work out at home--all you need is an internet connection and a floor, and the trainer makes calendars for you to follow each month, as well as one for beginners to follow. A 6-8 inch aerobics step is also pretty great for cardio workouts like step aerobics and…
  • I work out at home (I have a spin bike, a 6-inch step for step aerobics and jump training, and a few hand weights) and by walking or jogging with my dog around my neighborhood. I hate noisy, crowded environments, so I gave up on gyms years ago.
  • First of all, use a food scale and a heart rate monitor to be sure you're counting your calories consumed and burned accurately. Second, you could be overtraining yourself (depending on how intense your 30-45 minutes of exercise is; if it's just something light like walking, then ignore this). Muscles are built in the…
  • Maybe try sitting down with your mother and telling her that you're serious about trying to eat better and be healthier, so instead of her just buying junk food and takeout and getting offended when you don't eat it, you'd like it if the two of you could collaborate on meal plans so both of you could eat what makes you…
  • Noticing that my stomach was (slightly) flatter, my chin was smaller, and my clothes fit better. Also, being told by my mom that all the work I was doing for my health was inspiring her, and then walking into the garage a couple days later to use our spin bike, only to find that she'd beaten me to it!
  • I've only lost about 6-8 pounds so far, but I think every one of them came off of my face because my double chin is HISTORY. This photo's about 9 months old, but it's one of the best illustrations of how fat my face was until today: And here I am a few minutes ago: I know it doesn't look like much, but this is the first…
  • Not quite fitspo, more "don't get discouraged"...spo. Photo is from Howard Schatz' 2002 book Athlete. I've always found the book to be such an inspiring reminder that a healthy body can take a lot of different forms and that your bulky thighs, loose skin, or narrow shoulders don't mean there's something wrong with…
