  • I'll vouch for the PB and sriracha sandwiches. Also PB, dill pickle, tomato and lettuce. My niece introduced me to a sandwich once that was PB, hummus, dill pickle, mustard and tomato. Essentially, she was traveling cross-country with her best friend and they threw everything they had in the camper on a sandwich and…
  • Something to consider is that almond milk does not have the protein that regular milk does. If you tolerate dairy and are not going vegan for ethical reasons, there may be no real reason to switch.
  • This. And I also find that if I don't work enough fat into my diet, I get ravenous.
  • Gore-tex anorak for cross-country skiing and a compact set of binoculars for when hubby and I go hiking.
  • Don't know why you couldn't http://thefinishedplate.com/baked-eggs-in-a-muffin-tin/ For sandwiches, I'd probably break the yolks and give them a quick stir, then bake until completely firm. Maybe I'll have to do this. I used to bulk-make breakfast burritos a lot.
  • If coffee dehydrated you more than it hydrated, I'd be dead by now. I don't track water, but I would count coffee/tea if I did.
  • Cottage cheese, fruit, and sunflower or pumpkin seeds. Or a slice of peanut butter toast instead of the seeds. If I had to run out the door with something even faster than this, it would probably be just peanut butter toast and a piece of fruit.
  • This is the ideal situation. However, I think some of us have problems moderating certain foods and find it's just not worth it to keep them readily on hand. :) Mine was cold cereal, starting off this thread. Nothing wrong with cold cereal. I'm not absolutely restricting it -- just not keeping it around much. Nothing wrong…
  • Sometimes it is! I feel much the same way about barbecue potato chips. Only eat them at parties, but love 'em, love 'em, love 'em.
  • I'm in. Sending request.
  • There is no "Food Court" on this thread. At least not so far, and I hope one doesn't surface. This is foods that do not work for US personally, not foods to wag our fingers at others over. ;-)
  • They've got a breakdown, but it seems a bit out of control to me. Three cups of eggnog? A huge breakfast on a day when Mom's already busy running around the kitchen? 1200 calories worth of appetizers, nuts and chips before dinner? I'm not buying it. At least I'm not buying that the average person does this, which is what…
  • No cream because of general dairy issues, or is it just cream that's off the list? The cauliflower soup calls for buttermilk. I've also made "cream" of broccoli using potato soup as the base instead of a cream-flour-butter mixture. Wasn't bad.
  • Sweet potato, red lentil and tomatoes. Saute some onion/garlic, add broth/water, a medium sweet potato, maybe 1/2 to 1 cup red lentils and either a can of diced tomatoes or equivalent fresh chopped. Cook until potato and lentils are tender and either mash with a potato masher for a chunkier soup, or blend for a smooth…
  • I've found some gyms to be more newbie-positive and body-accepting than others. Where I live, it's the YMCA. It's not the fanciest in town, but I've never felt intimidated there. I will echo what others have said -- shop around. Get a feel for the place before you commit. Different gyms can have different cultures, for…
  • You really, really have to take those news stories about how many calories with a big grain of salt. They're usually put out by diet food industry groups with the intent of scaring people into buying their diet-versions of food. 7,000 calories is an insane amount of calories for the average person to eat in one day. A…
  • I do that with cookies, mostly Nilla Wafers, and it works really well for me. Not only do I not have that nagging compulsion that they're going to get stale (waste not, want not, and all that), but they're out of sight, out of mind, and I can take out a reasonable portion at a time when I really want some. A box of Nilla…
  • That would definitely be a disincentive and make it not worth it! If I were in the same boat, and eating oatmeal entailed that big a production, it would certainly be off my list, too.
  • Very well, thanks for asking! Had a lovely Christmas. Didn't track. Didn't binge. Just relaxed and enjoyed. I'm a big believer that they're "treats" not "cheats."
  • A couple of people on this thread were testing normal but at between 3 and 4.5. You might want to know there is some debate on what "normal" is, with some doctors believing it should be .3 to 3.0. I kept testing on the high end of what was considered normal and they kept saying I was fine, even though I had other symptoms…
  • I don't believe in kicking anyone, but I'll be glad to encourage you. :)
  • Allow myself enough treats I don't feel deprived, but scale it back. And if I indulge a time or two, not worry about it. Personally, I tend to be better off if I don't try to maintain perfect control at all times. The more I feel like I CAN eat anything I want, the less need I feel to binge on it. Dr. Yoni Freedhoff over…
  • Actually, it does if you plan your snacks and track and limit them. I keep stuff that is satisfying but with few enough calories that it doesn't put me off track the entire day. The days I get off track with snacking are usually the days I'm exhausted. That tends to be my trigger. I am old enough that I remember when…
  • I concur. I had a moment at a brew pub when I ordered a dinner salad and they brought it on a plate as big as my mother's serving platter that she'd put enough fried chicken on to serve seven. It's a little out of control. I'm not anti-splurging on occasion (I believe in "treats," not "cheats"), but wow. Just wow,…
  • Zardoz. Two hours of watching a past-his-prime Sean Connery -- so hairy he looks like he installed a pack of weasels on his chest -- running around in a red satin diaper will make you never want to touch another man again.
  • Yes, yes, yes, THIS. The body is not a simple equation and health does not equal weight. I am working on my habits, letting the weight fall where it may and making a conscious choice to love my body whatever the scale says. This is what I believe is my best path to health. Yes, I am losing, but I am trying not to get too…
  • Depends on how badly. For me, one true route to binging is if I get too exhausted, so I'd tend to vote nap, or at least moderate exercise rather than vigorous. I think this is a "know thyself!" situation.
  • We had 38 MPH winds here today. Not atypical during the winter months for us. They also don't plow our streets when it snows. I'm afraid I'll have to stick with walking for a few months. Have fun, everyone!
  • I've always been told I look young for my age. My general response was, "Body fat sure plumps up the wrinkles!" I've been reading this thread with some interest. I have probably said something along those lines, but it would be couched that I didn't "necessarily" want to be skinny. This isn't because I have some horror of…
  • Congrats! I have a pair of jeans I nearly gave away because I thought I'd never fit into them again. They are now getting too loose. I'm waiting until I get a couple of more pounds down before I start looking for a new pair.
