Oh, that DOES sound good. I buy grass-fed beef by the half-cow and am just waiting until this year's is ready for delivery. I'll try this as soon as I get it. Thanks!

Any savory, not sweet recipes? I saw once for a tomato-pumpkin bisque that I adapted to make tomato-sweet potato soup, but I haven't actually tried it with pumpkin. May have to -- I have a giant can I need to use. And believe it or not, the tomato-sweet potato soup IS a hit at potlucks. Tastes better than it might sound.…

I like the idea of walking it off. Might work to perk me up.

It's my understanding that BMR is simply the basic number of calories to maintain bodily functions if you did nothing but lie in bed. Considering that most of us get up and go to work and wash our dishes, eating at your BMR would cause you to lose, not maintain. It's your Total Daily Energy Expenditure, or TDEE, that is…

Your goal calories depend on whether you set it for losing 1/2 pound, 1 pound or 2 pounds per week. Are you setting your weight loss goal too aggressively for you to manage? The plan you can stick to is better than the plan you can't. Remember, too, that MFP will figure in your exercise calories and give you those, so if…

Friend request sent! I'm a bit of an introvert, too. I always say I'm more personable by email than I am in real life.

True, sadly. But I'm thinking of things like "fat-free cream cheese" where the ingredient list for the fat-free stuff is three times as long as for the normal cream cheese.

It really depends on the food for me. I'm not afraid of fat, but I don't see the need to go overboard with it everywhere. My problem with many low-fat products is that when I read the ingredients, it sounds like my college chemistry test.

I make my own taco seasoning in bulk and just don't add the salt that's called for: http://allrecipes.com/recipe/taco-seasoning-i/ I multiply the recipe and make a boodle at one time. When I've got a hankering for enchiladas, I buy no-salt tomato sauce and add it to the enchilada sauce to cut down the salt somewhat. If I…

@cwolfman: You said everything I had in mind. Exercise is the joy of movement. Pick something you like to do and it won't feel so much like a chore.

I like to grate it into spaghetti sauce.

First, quit inflicting the word "excuse" on yourself. There's typically a reason we eat what we eat, although it might not be a good one. Don't beat yourself up on top of everything else. Someone once told a friend of mine, "You'd weigh a lot less if you got off your own back." Deep breaths. Evaluate what you are doing…

If you get dizzy and have chest pains, I vote you stop and make an appointment with your doctor.

I think this is a hard thing for most people to realize. They associate veggies, etc. with suffering, and don't realize that once you start eating better, a lot of former treats taste kind of gross. Our employee wellness program had a book they gave us where the writer (meaning well, I'm sure) said to "put down those…

What helped me was to give myself radical permission to eat anything I like. Anything. Nothing is off the table. This keeps me from making foods more alluring by turning them into some kind of forbidden fruit. And if I really want the slice of pecan pie, I'm gonna have it. It's not some kind of moral failing to eat…

I'm no expert, but I found that the recommended heart rate ranges really didn't match what I was feeling. This one seemed to match better how I was feeling: http://lifehacker.com/determine-your-maximum-heart-rate-more-accurately-with-1519994980 I'm 46, and I think 125 was supposedly "vigorous" range for me, but it never…

1/2 cup full-fat cottage cheese, 2 T pumpkin seeds and 1/2 cup fruit is one of my go-tos. One fried egg and toast + fruit One fried egg, two corn tortillas and 1/4 to 1/2 an avocado. Oatmeal, hard-boiled egg or turkey breakfast sausage and fruit. Jimmy Dean makes good pre-cooked, frozen turkey breakfast sausage. If I don't…

If you allow yourself a wee bit of fat with them, greens like kale are excellent if you saute some onion in a small amount of olive oil until translucent in a large wok, then add the rinsed greens and put a lid on it. The water from rinsing should be enough to cook them. Open the lid every couple of minutes and stir. When…

Just remember that whatever others might recommend, the plan you can stick to is better than the plan you can't sustain. You may have to experiment to see what works for you. I usually find if I'm not motivated, there's a reason that I need to work through. eg. as some suggested, maybe morning exercising just isn't your…

Did you gain the weight just over the weekend? Or was that just when you checked it? The scale can easily fluctuate 2-3 pounds. I find that if I do a really hard workout, I always weigh a pound more the next day. Digestive... um... issues can also temporarily up your weight. If it was just over the weekend, I'm pretty sure…

I make DIY 100-calorie snack packs of sunflower seeds or those tasty crunchmaster gluten-free seed crackers. (I'm not a no-gluten person, but got hooked on those.) Others I love: Dried dates -- 20 calories each -- instead of the snack-size candy bars here at work Tanka bars -- high protein, low-cal, basically pemmican made…

Looks like I keep forgetting to log my miles, but I did my metric century (62 miles) last Sunday, so I'm happy.

Just an addendum on the molasses mocha -- if you get blackstrap molasses (not regular), it has 1/5 your daily calcium, 1/5 your iron and nearly 1/5 of your potassium in a 42-calorie tablespoon. I'm rather hooked on the stuff myself. I'll take that trade here and there.

Had a homemade iced mocha today: 1 cup coffee, 1/2 cup milk, 1 T blackstrap molasses, 1 T Hershey's Special Dark cocoa powder, pinch each of cayenne and cinnamon. Heaven!

Not everyone experiences the same level of physical/mental distress during their cycle. Some women get it so bad it qualifies as PMDD. It's not an excuse if your body really can't perform at the same level as usual. I used to work at a paint store, and I stocked 40-lb. boxes of paint all day. They were literally harder to…

Another vote for bake-your-own from corn or whole wheat tortillas. Even if you give them a light coat of cooking oil spray, you're still not getting the calories of the commercial variety.

I've used half and half mashed avocado + yogurt in tuna or chicken salad before. I've never been big on mayo, but tuna salad needs something to glue it together.
-
I'm not sure this is the best example. Call me old-fashioned, but I believe it is poor manners to stare at anyone in public unless they're up on stage performing. And no, I don't mean some figurative they tattooed themselves stage. I mean literally up on stage with lights and guitars and all.

All of us -- fat, thin, in between -- deserve to live in our bodies without harassment. Period.
