So excellent. Stolen. Sent to wife.

Wait, you mean to say you rely on your own mental acuity and emotional maturity to simply read something and decide then - after reading it - whether to ignore it or not? It's almost like the real world, interacting with different kinds of people. Very brave, sir. I like it.
-
Agreed. However, when people's inability to tell the difference becomes the focus, that isn't satire.
-
What was the purpose of this thread? To make a point? Teach a lesson? Poke fun? Is it successful when those that "get it" disparage those that don't? Satire doesn't work if your audience doesn't realize it's satire. At some point it just becomes contempt.

Foods you shouldn't eat: 1. Food that causes an allergic reaction 2. Food that makes you sick 3. Food you don't like 4. Food that isn't really food

Why don't I read farther before replying?!?!?!!! I understand now. You are obviously going to a gym designed exclusively for census bureau interviewers.
-
I suppose if you don't have the patience to spell out "people" unsolicited advice might drive you to stop going to the gym.

I'm sorry you are feeling bad and having a hard week. I hope you find strength within yourself to keep moving forward. Intentional or not, your original post was manipulative. I don't think you are a bad person for it. I hope you would want an honest opinion about it. I'm glad you don't need to be rescued. That tells me…

^Yes. Thank you again for consistently providing truth and perspective. Cardio vs. lifting matters when one interferes with another, depending on your goals. That is, if you are going for strength gains (read: not necessarily weight loss), and you are doing heavy cardio before lifting, you can make yourself tired and not…

There are better methods for getting back to the old you.

Are you posting about your frustration with people who offer a conflicting opinion, or tell you what to do? See above. One of the greatest discoveries I've ever made for myself is that I don't have to internalize every comment made by others. I get to choose whether to ignore it, accept it, learn from it, respond, etc. It…

There is no such thing as good foods or bad foods. Some foods have attitude problems, but they aren't really bad. Part of the population has a sensitivity to wheat and/or gluten. It can cause bloating, and in some cases, make weight loss more difficult. Unfortunately, that little truth has exploded into OMG! WHEAT IS BAD…

Good advice there. Even with a HRM, you are still only getting estimates of a calorie burn. The estimates are better than some one-size-fits-many calculation from a website, but it's all just estimates. Speaking very generally, burning too much over a calorie per minute is often inflated figures. Also, someone who weighs…

I think your post is supportive and well-informed, and I especially like your advice around weight loss rate. However, the idea of subtracting BMR from calorie burns (except in cases of burns lasting more than 2 hours or so), isn't as accurate as you are presenting. If you want to subtract BMR from each calorie burn, you…

I'm guessing most people who are capable of typing likely understand that five pounds = five pounds. Reminding them that five pounds = five pounds probably isn't necessary (despite how cool the muscle and fat pics are). I think most people understand what posters *mean* when they say "muscle weighs more than fat." It may…

I agree that assuming someone is stupid (rather than simply ignoring their casual misuse of terms) may not be the best approach. But I'm not sure feigning ignorance or purposely being difficult over 3-4 posts is the best way to prove that point.

I skimmed this while listening to Internet radio and shopping for a Kindle Fire. But lifting weights is good, yes?
-
(my emphasis) You do see where you are creating much of this argument on your own, right? When you say "weight loss" or "losing weight" that generally means the number on the scale is going down. One is literally losing weight. It does not measure overall health, except in the context of an arbitrary number corresponding…

In 2+ years, TWO forum posts, and this is #2?

"That doesn't go there."

Agreed. Easily my favorite post of 2013.

Typing this reply, I flipped you off while driving in my car. It was actually kind of dangerous, and I resent you for causing me to engage in such risky behavior.

Of course it's possible. The real question is how likely will the relationship be a success, right? You've clarified about the "abandoning the kids" aspect. Sounds like "Matt" is already divorced and participates in the lives of the children he had in his previous marriage. It also sounds like "Matt" and "your friend" have…

Remember that "Gym" is short for "Gyames".

That's a cool way to start off your year.

I think any equation that includes not getting diarrhea generally results in a positive. But I'm not that good at math.

Another great example of re-shaping your body, gaining strength, and becoming healthier through weight training. You also happened to lose 5 pounds. Good work. :drinker:

I want to give the OP the benefit of the doubt, and hope this thread started out with misguided but helpful intentions. But what a train wreck. Yep.
-
It's not assholery to recommend taking responsibility for your own food choices. We have to learn that sometime. Candy-coating this truth generally isn't productive. OP - plan your meals. Decide a whole week if you want. Plan your meals so you know what you are going to eat before you are hungry. Then the food is there,…
