When you say "pure" water, do you mean morally righteous? Because I like to drink loose, slutty water.

Excellent. Also, no socks with sandals.

Semantics, hysteria, obsessive over-analysis? Just make sure you don't drink soda and Pop Rocks or you will explode.

I meant you may count only pure water when you click that arrow as a CHOICE. You may count milk, coffee, soda, etc. I don't care. MFP doesn't care. I wasn't trying to say you MUST count only pure water when you click the arrow. I was saying that you may - but if you only count pure water when you click, you don't get a…

You're right. But your point will likely get lost. Most of this debate is lazy language. Coffee isn't water. Just like Elephants are not watermelons. They are different things. Both CONTAIN juice, just like coffee and water both CONTAIN water and will hydrate you. So much of this argument is semantics. People who count…

That formula is an estimate. People have a range of heart rates. I was in the same boat as you - when I first got my HRM I entered in my max HR using the 220-age formula. I was 41 at the time, so ended up with 179. But I was seeing 180 and even 185 on some of my runs, so I knew my MAX couldn't be 179. I have since adjusted…

I am confused by the statement above. I'm not challenging it - you seem to have more knowledge of this subject than I do. But I am baffled by the logic written above (at least the way I'm reading it). How can two people (with the same calorie requirements) both consume 2000 calories and only one person run at a 200 calorie…

How about we debate which one will look more like the crazy old lady down the street as they age? Steven has a head start for sure, but I suspect it will be a close race if you adjust for age.

I like this response. "Calorie free" discussions often devolve into debating the "Negative calorie" myth. Like the great Muscle Weighs More Than Fat Debate of 2011, we tend to get a little hung up on semantics and interpretation. But you are right - it's likely what people are really seeking is a way to snack and keep…

Problem is, many other websites (and nutritionists and doctors and trainers and books and magazines and wife's best friend who is into fitness and really smart) use some version of #2. So when people mention "eating your exercise calories back" to their nutritionist/doctor/trainer/wife's best friend who is into fitness and…

I don't enjoy being cajoled into doing things for my wife by a holiday, TV commercials or Internet forum posts. I enjoy doing things for my wife because I enjoy the relationship and enjoy making her happy. Sometimes doing something out of the blue has a lot more meaning that doing something on a holiday where it is…

This is cool. Surprised by the amount in pineapple. I would have guessed that was higher. What's the source?

Thank you for being honest.

I won't argue with your assessment of people not wanting to hear the truth. I agree with much of what you say. But you regularly demonstrate that you do not understand tact. See: http://www.tfd.com/tact

I don't buy the idea that using hot-looking celebrity profile pics is only for motivation. My opinion. Feel free to disagree. It shows up on every post you make and people associate it with you, disclaimer or not. It is part of your identity on MFP. I could get a bunch of new friend requests simply by changing my profile…

Do you mean I don't want to read so many words? The Internet has made us attention deficit attention *kitten*. We don't want to have to read too much, think too much or work too hard. But pay attention to me! Look at me! We don't want to take the time to articulate our reasons or explain context for better understanding…

Thanks for the original post and this level-headed follow-up reply.

Great advice. Make healthy choices for yourself. As you begin to change - physically and emotionally - your partner is likely to take notice. Let your success be motivation. Nagging/chiding/shaming someone into health rarely works. Demonstrate the payoff.

Absolutely agree with this. Don't even wait. Pick one. Both is better. Do both if you can. But if you have to pick one, pick one that you can continue doing. There is no real advantage to doing one first that I can see. Getting into healthy patterns, establishing a routine, building healthy habits. That's what matters.…

Is there a correlation between fasting and caps lock? I won't argue causation.

My questions were not rhetorical at all. Forum culture sometimes dictates giving life-changing advice armed with only a sliver of information. I was curious about some of the context you were describing. Here is my FREE/from a random guy on the Internet advice. If you want to continue the relationship - you enjoy it and…

I looked but no one has asked how long you've been dating. To me, that's an important piece of info. Why do you feel bad for admitting that you are missing something from a relationship? Is the relationship otherwise great? Have you invested a lot of your life in this relationship? Have you been together awhile and things…

When I first read that, I thought you were describing an avocado, agave, chicken salad, grilled cheese, pizza, salad smoothie. And I thought GROSS! Who puts agave in a smoothie?

We are very lucky because our tap water tastes great where I live. It's not the same in nearby cities - or even some neighborhoods. But I like tap when it doesn't taste funny. I always check the hotel water when traveling. If the water from the tap tastes fine (and it does half the time) I'll use up one bottled water from…

Excellent. You may want to post this regularly. Or perhaps in the unofficial FAQ? http://www.myfitnesspal.com/forums/show/474-unofficial-mfp-faq
