Bikram yoga is great for many things. But it often gets inflated calorie burn results because of the heat and how that can affect your heart rate (which is often the measurement being used to calculate calorie burn). I love Bikram yoga, and am trying to get back to doing it again. I like it for how my joints feel and…

I can tell the difference between my kids' farts. My youngest once tried to blame a fart on me while we were Skype video-chatting. I was in San Francisco, the family was home in Austin. She did not win that argument.

How can farts not be heralded as important to human development? Every romantic relationship that lasts has a fart moment - or at least a fart threshold - where you decide you can fart in your partner's presence. Since my oldest daughter (now 10) performed a surprise dutch oven on my wife about 5 years ago, I think it's…

Love this post. I know some intelligent, open-minded Christians, and there are more here on MFP. It's easy to lump "Christian" in with being small-minded and hateful because there are so many public examples of small-minded hateful Christians. But they aren't all like that. Far from it. I know Christians who are smart,…

This was awesome.

Yep. You are right. Honestly, my post began life as a response in a particular thread that got locked. I almost always compose responses in a text editor, then paste them in. After the thread was locked, I kept coming back to it - partly why it got so long. I should have just saved it for a blog post or something. Or even…

Maybe. I naively thought it was different. Not better. As someone who has used the "get a thicker skin" argument in the past, the realization that I cannot command someone to be less sensitive was an a-ha moment for me. I used to argue that point a lot here on MFP. But I'm trying to understand how people get hurt/offended…

This. It's not ice cream. Some of the flavors are pretty good, but none are creamy like ice cream, or even good frozen yogurt. I recommend the Vanilla Maple, Strawberry and Coffee flavors. I've heard Cookies and Cream is the worst of the flavors. I haven't had any in awhile. It was great when I first started MFP, though.…

I could answer this literally and just say "yes" - because if someone cheats, and becomes a cheater, they cannot possibly UNcheat and become something different. I think what you may asking is "if someone cheats, does it mean they will do it again?" Or maybe something a little trickier like "If someone cheats, will they…

There are cheap, sound OK, and have lasted me a long time getting sweaty: http://tinyurl.com/7rrhhz3 (Amazon) The design is a little weird at first, but once you "get it" they are easy on/off. The best thing about them (to me) is that they aren't completely in ear.

Oh man.... I was just about to post asking about PCBF!!

Sadly, this will never be cleared up. You may reach a couple of people here and there. But the gazillion-dollar weight loss industry isn't getting funded by people who want to eat at a calorie deficit and exercise. Everyone wants that bikini body in pill form. At least a lottery ticket has a mathematical possibility....

Thanks for posting this.

But without the incessant repeat threads, we would be deprived of the glories of all the post about the repeat threads, the pontificating on why new people might want a "fresh" perspective and the joyous, spiritually fulfilling back and forth of people being snarky and mean and people being too thin-skinned.

Without guilt. Without excess. Needs to be a T-shirt.

I want to debate this.

I suspect you are describing a perfect scenario where a human body is completely free of distraction, stress, etc. and has good whole food available. It is a scenario that might work in a clinical setting. So while it may be possible, I don't think it's realistic. I also doubt the "don't worry the human body will take care…

You are tripping on the trees to see the forest. Or something like that. Weight loss *IS* a simple matter of generating a caloric deficit. Exercise is optional, though recommended. This doesn't mean there aren't underlying root issues that cause overeating, poor nutrition, binge eating, etc. Most of the people on MFP…

Excellent.

Dear is only overthinking your comment in the sense that you underthunk it. _GlaDOS_ is actually on the right track. This whole coffee is not water - taken literally - is a silly debate (even worse than muscle v. fat). Coffee is fluid that contains water that hydrates the body. Yes, we get it. Coffee is not water. Just…

Have you considered extending the same patience and generosity toward the people you are chastising for not doing so? As you say, we don't know how someone spends the entire day. Likewise, a person offering criticism couldn't possibly have guessed someone eating 600 cals had a family emergency. But 600 calories is…

I think the issue is that we need hydration. Hydration comes from many sources. Seems like some people are getting hung up on the term "water" - arguing that coffee is not water because, well, it's coffee. But that's a terminology argument, not a hydration argument. Quit mixing the two. Someone has mentioned it already in…

It's actually pretty good, especially if you get a good blend you like. We have a commercial one hooked up to a water line, but we used to have a consumer one. Went through two of those (the pump gave out both times) before getting one designed for an actual office. It is by far better than most brewed office coffee. At…

We have a Keurig coffee machine at work that uses these little cups to make coffee (similar to pods, but bigger and environmentally more evil, though cutely named K-cups). You have to place one of these K-cups in the machine for each cup of coffee. When I make coffee, I always open the machine back up and throw away my…

Oh man.. I feel sad that the wisdom you posted will likely be lost in this thread. Thanks for sharing it anyway. Hopefully a few people will take it to heart.
