  • It was a very warm pool today so everyone was on a 5-10 lengths cycle and then stop to cool down. The heat really sucks the energy out of you. 1000m of mixed bag depending on what others were doing, free, breast and back mixed together to limit conflicts/passing etc.
  • @7lenny7 Unless you are in my little town where all the trails zigzag up and down the riverbank with lots of interesting challenges. We only have 2 trails that follow the river bank and they are short connectors between other segments. Great Photo's of your Trail Run, looks like you almost lost your Running Buddy under the…
  • @shanaber Thanks for thinking of me. With the cold and snow that everyone in the US has been getting you can multiply that by a whole bunch ( especially the cold ) for us Northern folk. I have a grand total of about 30km for the month, an all time low. Away on work trip to Edmonton this week 12 -14 hr days ( -4 to -10C )…
  • Aching for a good trail run. Still 1meter/3 ft of snow and -10C so not happening for a while.

  • 180 posts behind so others may have all ready commented. @hanlonsk One of the ladies in our little club can't wear certain shoes on the dreadmill as they are always coming untied. Double knot, differant laces didn't matter. the same shoes outside - never a problem. A differant pair of the same model no trouble on the…
  • That's the wrong order, Swim, Bike and then run. ;) Actually well done following a run where you burn up legs strength/endurance. I have officially now doubled my monthly running total by doing a 5km jaunt on Sunday when it warmed up to a more comfortable -30C. After 2 weeks of -40C all of a sudden -30 seems mild. Adult…
  • @jessetfan Yes that takes some adjustment. One of the drills the instructors had us do on Backstroke ( good for all strokes ) was the fist drill. Close your hand like you are making a fist and alternate 25m lengths between closed fist and normal open hand. It really makes you aware of engaging the forearm parallel to your…
  • @fishgutzy Knowing how painful a Swimming Induced Toe Cramp can be - a broken toe not fun. You might have to use a Pool Buoy and drag your legs around so you don't aggravate the toe and extend the healing time. Feb 11 Monday Noon Swim 6 lanes 5 people = perfect 1200m 200m Warm-up. 100 free and 100m Back. 750m Free Sprint…

  • @kristinegift I am a fan of the Apple -Cinnamon ( tastes like apple pie ) and the Strawberry. Don't know if they have them in the + version with higher sodium.
  • For all of us suffering through some nasty cold weather I drop this bit of a humorous poke at Winter Runners Swim club tonight, over 400m of kick drills - harder than a 10k run.
  • ^^^ so much all of this. I do a Mountain Trail HM and the back of the packers get the biggest cheers by everyone, in fact it's part of the tradition of the event to line the finish chute and support them since they have actually burned up more energy ( physical and mental ) to get to the line when they are running/walking…
  • This ##!!. has been a very bad 2 weeks. :( :( :( :( :s :s :s February Km's 0.0 and not looking good for another 3-5 days. -37C to -46C Windchill. :o :( :s :s :s :s :s :s At least the UV Index is low :D Even our swimming pool and rec center closed due to the temperatures causing problems with the Air Handling-Heat exchanger…
  • Adult Swim Club. The 17 yr Coach was mean tonight. The dreaded Toy/Pail swim planner. Each Swim Toy or Pail had a Number, Letter or both under it that corresponded to a drill or drill sequence. So pick your poison. Warm-up 200 kick 100 free #1- 200 Free - 5 stroke breathing pattern #2- 2 x 50m Fly #3- 4 x 50m IM Kick #4- 4…
  • Really been AOL-Slacker this month. Did get in 2 runs this weekend. Saturday 10.2km - a beautiful +5C day with a SW wind - just about Shorts and T-shirt weather for us. Sunday 5.2km -5C Yes a 10C ( 50F ) swing overnight so all the roads and trails had a beautiful coating of ice which made for lots of interesting traction…
  • @emmab0902 Is it a 35 x 25m Pool with a 2m wide Moveable bulkhead yielding 33 x 25? We have quite a few of these where they set up a Floating Bulkhead that will cut the pool back to 25m and then have a small 8x25m lane/training pool on the other side of the bulkhead. I think this originated from pools where they had…
  • Out of town for work for a week in a community with no pool, unless you count the 8m pool at the hotel. So first swim in over a week - adult swim club. 2100m warm up 100m kick - 100m free @ 15 sRi 2 x 3 x 50m kick 3 x 50m free 4 x 25m sprint 2 x 100m easy > sprint Pace Builder Fly ( This beat me up, sucking hard for air…
  • A bad week = 1 run since last Saturday. Managed to get out today for a 10km Slog through some fresh slow and did some dancing in some areas due to the hidden ice. Never went down but definitely was pushing the Stability-balance limits. The temperature was -11 to -9C so actually rather warm and when I was done the outer…
  • @skinnyrev2b Some days we have lots of variety and drills - other days we just paddle back and forth. Feel free to copy any of the sets we post and try them out. My pool actually has a Drill set holder on the wall with Laminated sheets showing drills ( arm-body positions ) and a list of drills with 3-4 versions depending…

  • @7lenny7 Yes a run, although between speed reading and the way it showed on my PC it initially looked like you and Kody both had poop breaks, that's a bad visual. @rheddmobile Can't add anything to Pastorvincent's comments about layers and throw away sweat shirt/hoody, except Don't Stay Home - Embrace The Suck and go after…
  • I just explain to the Desk agent and ask to use the shower/change room/washroom in the pool area and have never been turned down. It doesn't cost the hotel any cash, no mess in a room and they have a happy returning customer. A trick also is to do a Positive customer comment on the web site ahead of time giving a good…
  • 1200m Lane swim - 1 Double lane 5 swimmers - at least it was all the regulars so everyone is aware of other swimmers and played nicely when it came to sharing the space. The other Dble lane was being used by the Swim Club as they have their swim meet this weekend so the final tune up. With so many people all you can really…
  • I think this has probably been cross posted and shared with every Social Media Running group but I couldn't resist dropping it here since it is so appropriate to this group.
  • 11 km up hill route - Manzer Ave. My Legs were tired and it was a tough slog because of that. Realized that the reason is Friday Night Curling Club - every time we are short a player I have to work much harder sweeping and the Push leg gets a good workout. I had planned on a complete loop extending out past 14km but I knew…
  • @emmab0902 Sending a virtual Hug your way.
  • @ddmom0811 To add to the Canadians plugging in our cars. Most vehicles in Canada will have a block heater which is a heating element inside the Engine to warm up the Anti-freeze (Engine Coolant). Since the coolant does not circulate if the engine does not run this heat warms the Steel/Aluminum Block of the engine and the…
