1400m Back in the Pool at Noon today - me and 3 people - a full lane all to myself. 750m Free - Zipper and Finger drag drill combined to improve my recovery and 1 sec glide between strokes. Concentrating on left arm entry and catch as it has always been wrong. I separated the left shoulder 30 years ago and don't have the…

1500m Noon Hour lane Swim. Started out with a lane all to myself, then the hoards came and every lane had 4 people and the slooow leisure lane had 7, which would mean lots of float time and not much swim. Struggled through 30 minutes in the crowd then 2 Ladies jumped out to " do the hair and war paint before going back to…

@polskagirl01 Try this new site. Yes SiSu seemed to disappear in late October. Was out yesterday for a short 6.4 km and today is our local Christmas Jingle Jog 5km opps I see @garygse already replied about this and also offered up another type of visual aid.

A few years ago in Edmonton,Alberta a High School had a No Zero's policy - in other words everyone would pass. So like your experience students weren't doing the work or turning the work in and the one teacher went against policy and gave out zero's. The school board actually terminated him - he was re-instated after a big…

30 kph wind. No way i could run at 30kph. @LadySaton Hope you recover from the aches and fever. I have so much running specific gear that I picked up a old beatup dresser from the Eco-Recycle center for $15.00, gave it a $5.00 paint job and now have it sitting in the laundry-utility room area as a running specific dresser…

10 km Riverbank trails in the dark. Covered in a layer of hard white ice so had to use the screw shoes. Had no problem with traction. Since there is a new bridge being installed across the River the trails are cut off in a few places so lots of detours across streets so had my headlamp and flashing LED backlight on so the…

@beerfoamy your 1k time is my 750m time right now. And that's what I did last night 750m x 2. The local sprint Triathlon is 750m so that's why I do 30 length sets when in lane swim. 5 people in the pool so not sharing lanes makes it a lot easier. Still working on increasing distance and little technique improvements.

Went to the pool - lane swim cancelled. A local company had rented the Pool and opened it up to the general Public for an open swim night so people who don't normally go or can't afford to take the whole family get in for free. It's a great thing for them, not for us lane swimmers. Oh well at least I got a 10 block walk…

6.37 km - Yes it's not a round number but between the wind that seemed to change direction every time we changed so it was always in your face, some super slider icy sections ( black ice as we call it ) - such a thin layer of ice you don't notice it until all of a sudden a foot goes out from under you with no warning -…

10 km Manzer Ave climb. Chilly -14C with a 20km/hr wind. One of those temps where you are between clothing sets, next garment combination would be to warm, the one you are wearing is a little chilly. The good part was that it was a blue sky day so running outside under the big sunbeam is always so good for the heart, mind…

Time for the Pre Christmas Feast Bump

Welcome to the thread @Kupla71 . Short pool or long pool doesn't matter. Straight time goals are a common way to start into an activity - wether it's swimming, running, walking. As the saying goes just add 1 more length to your swim each time and it tends to build up pretty fast. Bad at checking in. Thursday hit the pool…

Yesterday was the last Adult swim Club until January. Pool schedule conflicts with Swim Meets, School swim days, Christmas Break etc made it so they just couldn't fit it in this year. 200m Warm up. Alt 50 Kick & 50 free/back. Dryland Training Alphabet Soup - using your name to match to drills. Norwegian Heritage so lots of…

4.22 km of Hiking in the hills NW of town with a friend and her families dog#2 ( Black Lab Mutt Cross ) as we did a search and rescue for dog#1 ( Shepard Mutt Cross ) who went on a squirrel chase Saturday afternoon while out for a walk with her sister and 2 daughters in an area commonly used for off leash activities. The…

and that is why having a training buddy is such a good thing. They push you and you push them. I forgot to post on Thursday night, 1800m of drills - lots of backstroke and some butterfly - which I don't do as my left shoulder screams loudly at me for a few days if I do more than 1-2 lengths. I have always struggled with…

10.15 km Manzer Ave Climb. We had some snow the last few days and at -7C it is very wet/mushy so it tends to build up on your shoes like mud and then fall off. Also the trail was covered in snow - some areas consolidated providing solid footing - 10 steps later it was loose and unstable underfoot - breaking away with the…

As a runner I get inspiration from a retired lady who is a power walker. She lives in the nearest city to me that hosts a lot of events by differant groups so we end up at events together. At most of these events the walkers start 30 minutes ahead of the runners, this allows them to spread out on the course so they don't…

Well I haven't made my SMART Goal in 5 months and with the addition of winter activities - Curling, Xcountry and Downhill skiing - plus family-work socials December promises to be challenging with the extremely short days. Go to work in the dark, home in the dark, run in the dark, ski in the dark. It's a good thing they…

@amymoreorless You need the Christmas Tree to be built as a cape that hangs off your shoulders and Flows out behind you so it keeps your Knee-Leg movement free. A few Flashing Dog Safety Collars attached and you are set.
-
And that is the real reason we run outside in the winter. We are really limited right now - 2 days of freezing rain - started as ice pellets turned into rain then back to ice pellets and just to make the trails and roads more of a challenge it transitioned to snow. Picture a layer of ice pellets that will break away like…

@dewit As @polskagirl01 said running in snow-icy conditions really makes you concentrate on your form - foot landing under neath your hips and a gentle pushoff to reduce toe breakout. Good Trail Shoes or old road shoes with screws added as ice-traction cleats. Also the shoes you walked home in did they have a traction…

5.09 km Sunday with Jeremy pushing Baby Beckett in his stroller. -12C and Foggy reduced visibility so we stayed on low traffic roads rather than the prime route which would have more traffic. I struggled through this run with tired legs, a combination of Adult Swim club, Curling Friday night, Saturday Misery Mtn Ski Hill…

10.55 km Misery Mtn Loop. Struggled through this- a good minute off my normal avg easy pace. Not getting enough running in so what used to be an easy outing is more work than it should be. The snow-ice has melted away so at least I was on bare trails with only a few icy/snow covered spots. Only at 61.8km for the month and…

@zeesparrow If you find a store that carries the Lithium Batteries they are worth the extra cost, I have 2 lights (same model) and when I put Lithium in one and std energizer in the other one there was a noticeable difference in output. I even tried other cells in case they were old. Lithium were putting out more and seem…

A short 5.15 km Sunday morning group run. Out on the Westbrook rd and returned on the bush trails around the bottom of our ski hill - legs are still a little hammered out from the 7 Peaks Challenge and Adult Swim club.

@mbaker566 Well done - that's truly a look of joy in the photo of you and speed demon. @polskagirl01 That is a fantastic photo. I like that they captured multiple runners on a hill descent. You: arms open and helping with balance and stride reaching down the hill = stable and in control. 1st Athlete behind you: Arms closed…

Yesterday our little club had our informal End Of Season Challenge. 7 Peaks 7 Pubs 2018. 9 Started the run 6 Finished. The temperature was wrong for the event - either needed to be 10 degrees warmer ( no coat would be required ) or 10 colder so you could leave the coat on. Peel a layer for the uphill, put it back on for…

Breakfast at Tiffanies @ContraryMaryMary That's called Carbo Loading for a future event, or testing your event fueling options. Perfectly justified @garygse Awesome laying it down solid. As @Orphia said a PB is a PB since each event has differant terrain challenges, weather and athlete congestion points meaning we can't…
