I found that 2 things made my Polar HRM give wonky readings-- When I would get super super sweaty, it would read zero for my HR... clearly not the case. Almost like it couldn't make a good enough connection to my chest. And when the batteries were low, again- no heart rate. I think if it's reading a 0 HR, it will show no…

You can also include walking on your heels, with your toes up in the air. Then walk on your toes. "Write" the alphabet on the floor with your toes. I also make sure I do ankle circles. I had to take 3 weeks off in February because I developed them over the course of a month in my left leg. All of the above has helped. What…

Perhaps look into kettlebells? You can get a pretty good full body workout with just one kb and a fairly good cardio workout at the same time. There are a lot of videos and posts online about how to use them and what moves to do with them. It might not give you a huge calorie burn but you should definitely see improvements…

Stick with it through the whole thing, it absolutely works.

*Except eating whole packs of cheese dogs. Apparently that can be done every day, no problem [/quote] hahaha, that is a great thread to start your day with.

http://www.myfitnesspal.com/topics/show/1217573-so-you-want-to-start-running Pretty much everything that ThickMcRunFast says in the beginning. FWIW, I'm training for a half marathon... I am only running 3 days a week. Take your rest days and don't be afraid of walking. It will let your bones, and muscles, and all that…

I was totally thinking about this exact thing about a half hour ago... for me, a lot of it was lack of exercise and eating way more calorie dense foods compared to their nutritional value. Now that I have changed my eating habits it can sometimes be hard when I sometimes burn 1000 calories a workout. I try not to buy those…

I buy whey powder the company claims is from "grass fed pastured cows and fair trade organic chocolate"... I don't know how much that is just to get me to part with my money into the coffers, but it's what I use, and it doesn't taste too bad. I take 2 scoops of that in a cup of milk, a tablespoon of peanut butter, and a…

If you are mouth breathing you might just be getting dehydrated. I drink a lot of water when I run (think 1.5L) because I always have a dry mouth.

It sounds like you need a bigger pair of shoes, and some nail polish! I got fitted at a running store- those shoes didn't work for me so it's not an end all be all. I had several people recommend to me www.roadrunnersports.com I used their shoe selector and have been very happy with the pair I have now. And they have a 90…

I use plain gelatin to stabilize whipped cream for cream puffs... they're healthy if they're homemade right??? That stuff is gnarly smelling though when it's heated... I can barely bring myself to put it in the cream.

This is why my beef comes straight from a local, small scale slaughterhouse with cows sourced from local small scale farms. Chickens from the farmers markets, and eggs from locals with small flocks. I hunt and butcher my own venison, catch most of my own fish. As for dairy? Well, I really have no local source of dairy so…

Edited because apparently I need two tries to quote something.

I feel you here... I get the hippie thing all the time. I don't eat 100% local meats and eggs, close.. but not quite. When I don't, I try to at least buy meats from animals that were pastured... although with non-local stuff I suppose I have no real proof other than the company's word. I don't lead on that I think it's…

:flowerforyou: :drinker: Awesome! Just wait until you get get used to being outside and you first notice your times start getting faster than on the treadmill! I'm about 3 minutes faster over a 5k outside than on the stinkin' dreadmill!

Don't give up! There are so many more positive things that have been happening to your body in the last two months that the scale's numbers should be the least of your worries! I bet you are stronger and have way more endurance than when you first start. And you quit smoking... that's awesome and so good for you right…

Like capergrrl said... a few days after it starts. I level out before it ends. I typically gain a couple of pounds in the week and a half to two weeks leading up to it. I wonder if weighing everyday for a couple of months, and realizing the purpose of it, would help to figure out a trend of when the water weight starts…

I own a Polar and it works pretty well. It's easy to navigate through. Make sure to get one with a chest strap. The nifty thing about them too is that if you are a cardio machine person, a lot of them are already programmed to work with the Polar chest straps so your HR shows up on the display and it's coming from the…

I use rowing as a cross training substitution for some of my running miles... it is by NO means only an upper body workout. You will use your legs and your entire core. It might not be the best choice if you are supposed to be giving your back a rest.... Good luck, injuries are no fun!:flowerforyou:

Monistat and gold bond both making anti-chafe products, I have used both with success. The monistat was in a tube you applied with your fingers, the gold bond like deodorant. I believe both are less expensive options than body glide (which I've never used so can't compare it to the others). Good luck- chafing can turn a…

I was on propranolol for about a year and a half for VT. I gained 14 pounds and could not lose weight until I quit taking it. I am still 2 pounds from my pre-propanolol start weight. I never had any energy and cardio was near impossible. I am glad to see though that some folks were able to take it with no issues. ETA- It…

I think I used the one from active. I liked it.

I don't think it's cheating to not record gains. BUT, if you do, you can go look at the graph showing your weight and you might be able to see a trend starting to develop.

Pistachios. I heart keenwah bites with siggis's skyr celery and humus

I use TerasWhey. I think it was around $25 for a canister. But grassfed cows (so they advertise), and to a lesser degree organic, is important to me.

Cajun venison burgers, roasted potatoes and steamed brocoli.

I consider myself still new (again) to running. I ran many, many years ago and stopped... picked it back up about a year and a half ago. I'm mid way through half marathon training. The program I chose was 4 months. The program had five run days. This was still too much for my shin, and I ended up in shin splint city. I'm…

That bethlaf is fantastic... my scale is such a lying jerk! My jeans fresh out of the dryer however... they never lie.

The only thing you should do with regard to breakfast is listen to your body. If your body is hungry, feed it. If it's not, don't just because someone says you should. I have done IF a few times, and as long as I planned out my lunches and dinners I was fine. The days I didn't plan were the ones where I personally had a…

Itchy Finger. Ballad of the Irish Horses. I do almost 100% of my running to bagpipes. Strange, I know. But I run waaaay better listening to that than anything else. I'm starting to download tunes now to put together a 2:30:00 hour playlist. :)
