Going to reiterate what you've heard from many: be scrupulous and ruthless and honest in your food logging. Restaurant meals are killers and add up so quickly it's ridiculous. Even "light" or "fit"choices are more calories than I usually eat for a meal and that's not counting any pre-meal bread, etc. Prepared and processed…

In my humble opinion, if you've lost over 10 pounds in a month it is neither unexpected nor unlikely that you may reached a plateau or a mini-plateau. I completely understand the frustration, but it's virtually impossible that you will keep up your initial weight loss pass. Just keep doing what you're doing, don't go…

Coincidentally, I posted something about thighs in response to another message yesterday relating to body shape and where/how we carry our weight. Bottom line (no pun intended) is that some of us will have larger thighs than others. We may be able to reduce the amount of fat and jiggle, but structurally, there's a limit to…

Nuts, trail mix, peanut butter, Nutella, are calorie dense and also have valuable nutrients If you expect to come up short, just add them to your intake during the day. A quarter-cup of nuts or trail mix disappears pretty easily if you nibble on it over the course of a few hours. If you have calories to spare and want to…

Although I"m a (lot) older than you, our height and starting weight are very similar, as is our shape, based on the picture you posted. The good thing is we have a waist and the bad (?) thing is we have thighs. :0) Seriously though, although when I was younger I used to dream of a weight at which my thighs wouldn't rub…

Great job! And it goes without saying, even if you don't hit ONEderland today, you will another day very soon. (I'm not trying to kill your buzz, but know from my own experience how sometimes optimism gets tempered by reality.)

Perfect! How's it feel to take control of this part of your life, too? Great job!

My thoughts exactly! It sounds very much like a relationship I had over 30 years ago in grad school and in retrospect, I realized the guy really enjoyed all the drama. Dropping him is not "giving up on him". He's an emotionally controlling man who can't be trusted and isn't worth any more of your time. Consider not…

I was diagnosed about 3 years ago and have frequent variations in my TSH levels. I was stuck for weeks without losing anything and did end up finding out through a 3 month TSH level that my numbers were well outside of the "normal" range. For me the key is having regular checks, at whatever frequency my physician…

This is just random weight variationn/fluctuation. You will see many posts on here with the same topic: how can I have gained XX weight in YY amount of time when I've been doing ZZ. If you are being honest in your logging of food and exercise and know that you haven't eaten the amount of calories in that period of time…

Great job at changing your attitude toward his lack of support! You're doing this for YOU not him, and your approval and commitment is what matters most/

if you have a new baby you are going through all sorts of adjustments in your life. Maybe what you need as your "exercise" right now is something that is calming and stress-reducing. Walks with your baby all snuggled against your chest in a carrier are a great way to get some exercise and still be with your baby. Walks…

As others have said, you need to do this for yourself. If you are looking to him for validation for your success and he's not giving it, then you're setting yourself up to failure. He's attempting to control you by withholding approval--not a healthy trait for a relationship. My husband isn't non-supportive, but he isn't…

My tools are pretty much the same as the ones mentioned: weigh or measure almost everything, overestimate amount and/or calories if in doubt, smaller plate, plan your food for the day to avoid spontaneous eating, etc. If you use a half-up measuring cup instead of a serving spoon it becomes quite routine. I bring my scale…

Ignore the weight gain! As long as you are taking in fewer calories than you need to maintain your weight, you can't gain actual weight. (Well, I suppose barring some unusual metabolic condition.) I have learned that my weight seems to be completely arbitrary and has significant variation from day to day and during the…

Set your personal goal for what you think is attainable AND sustainable. Going from nothing to 45 minutes is still SOMETHING and you should feel good about taking that step. I set my MFP goal at 30 minutes 3 times a week because I was pretty sure that I could find the time to do that, even with work, family, volunteer…

Half-servings are one of my favorite "tricks." It's a really easy way to cut calories associated with things such as pasta, rice, but still be able to have some. And I discovered that even a half-serving of some things I'm not that fond of but my husband likes to serve, such as baked beans, is waaaaay more than I need to…

Everyone's progress will vary. Some people lose a lot the first week, some lose nothing. Some lose a lot every week, some (like me) maybe lose a a half pound. Don't think that you're going to see crazy amounts such as what you see on the Biggest Loser--that's not normal. You really need to just stay honest with your…

Congratulations on taking the first step! The accountability that logging provides may be the most valuable tool--look at what it's already told you today! Once you start logging regularly you will start to identify your culprits, both wasted foods/beverages (low nutrition and/or high calorie) and amount. That said, as…

I've worked in human resources for over 20 years for very large employers in my area. My HR peers and I have uniformly been noting the large numbers of applicants for many entry level positions, esp. those that don't require specialized degrees or expertise. I did a recent recruitment for an entry level paraprofessional…

Sometimes we are able to find slider buns, which are just right for the slider-sized burgers that my family makes. One of them is around 100 calories. If we can't find slider buns, then I just use half a regular bun. It's still plenty of bun for the burger. (Which sounds kind of obscene but that's not intentional.) You can…

I'm not sure it matters if you've told him or not, but there is nothing wrong, esp. if you own a child care center, to have a discussion about using food as treats. Chocolate milk is not allowed in many local schools due to its high calorie content (and this is in Wisconsin where milk is revered!). One of my sisters (in…

Due to a medication I take in the morning I can't eat until I'm at work. I'm not a huge yogurt fan because the sweetened ones are so high in calories and sugars. Also, some of the textures are not appealing to me (e.g., the whipped yogurts). However, I have found that a 6 oz Light and Fit is great, along with a serving of…

I know the frustration of not losing when you believe you should be--but stick with it regardless. I wonder about a couple of things in your message, though, which gave me a bit of pause. You said you meeting your calorie goals mostly during the week, so that made me wonder whether you are taking the weekends off. You…

Definitely this. If you want to see how this is true, try weighing yourself a couple of times a day for a week. You're probably going to find your weight is all over the place. The way I deal with this is that I weigh myself several times a week in the morning before I get dressed. As long as I am being honest with my…

I am averaging about 3 pounds a month, but it's very inconsistent-. My TSH levels had increased again so about a month ago my synthroid dosage was increased. I'm still pretty much stuck where I've been the past month, but I have lost some inches (or fractions) so that's encouraging. As someone else mentioned, if 2-3 pounds…

I'm in agreement---get rid of them! I lost a decent amount of weight a few years ago and made the mistake of keeping a few items that weren't huge but were too big at the time. I was short on cash and needed to have decent work clothes, and kept those items that were for the next season. You can guess what happened--I grew…

As was noted, sleep-eating (and other behaviors) can be an issue for people who take Ambien. One of my daughters took Ambien and ended up going off of it due to the side effects she was experiencing, including doing things in her sleep she didn't remember. Whether or not the sleep-eating is related to your sleep meds, you…

One of my daughters has a similar problem. One of the things she was told was to apply it the night before to maximize effectiveness. That might have been specific to one of the clinical strength ones that she tried. If you shower in the morning that might create a complication to that approach.
