  • Merry Christmas everyone 6 mile ride to a parkrun, 5 km parkrun, 10 mile ride back. What a start to Christmas. Despite thanking all the marshalls at the event today, I still don't feel as though it was enough. So I thank them here as well, giving up part of their Christmas morning to allow 275 of us to run. Hip, hip horray…
  • Cracking stuff, you'll do well in February
  • @Just_Ceci your HM plan seems to be going well, are you finding the brick sessions getting easier or do they just still suck? @moyer566 13.2 miles or kms, good work either way but if you are doing HMs in training you will nail your run in February. You may need to to put a speed session in every week to build upon the…
  • Had a run out on the Isle of Wight but realised I had left the sports watch in Nottingham. So used the works cell phone with the Strava app and if you look at the Strava feed you can see 2 sections of non record. Only picked up because I was checking where I was. It halved the run distance, I miss the watch. Got a parkrun…
  • @moyer566 , @Just_Ceci and @LLduds , nice running ladies. Love the bling on the dog and the not so nice race supporter. Haven't been out much as had man flu, too much time out in the rain either running or reffing and then having the U9s squad Christmas party. Short 4mile run on Thursday night (4 miles short?, how your…
  • Ceci, MM nice going guys moyer take it easy, you and LLDuds have been stretching the boundaries quite relentlessly, sometimes you need to take it easy. Ref the weight gain, you have to eat huge amounts to gain 8lbs in a short time. Look at water retention due to salt, alcohol, processed food, muscle repair or hormonal…
  • For me it's the warm up and the first mile so around 15 minutes or so and I am with MM it is every single run. I know I can run a marathon and can race HMs. Even parkruns the first lap is full of why am I doing this, this isn't fun but at the end I have generally enjoyed it but 10 mins of fun and 15 mins of arggh, is it…
  • Update British athletics have ranked yesterdays parkrun as my best parkrun despite being 2 mins slower than my "fastest " time. Feeling a lot more positive than just after the run yesterday. Hoping to be back where I grew up in 2 weeks time and do the parkrun there. Hopefully that will banish the miserable memories of…
  • @taeliesyn nice set of runs, you look really set to nail sub20 on the parkrun, what a result. Hopefully some better weather next week and if you are up for it, you could nail it. What a Christmas present that would be!! @llduds another step closer, it won't be long before you nail that sub 60 mins 10k. Glad the knee is…
  • Well parkrun done this morning, really odd results. Slightly smaller field than usual, one of my slowest times 26:31 but my second best finish position 78, first finishers time was 19:07 compared to 16:30ish normally. The wind in the back straight was pretty horrific but at least it was dry, the threatened rain never…
  • Best wishes at least someone keeps the thread on track :p
  • First of all welcome, hopefully you haven't hurt yourself. Sounds like you got a great session going. Hopefully you won't be put off the eclectic updates that go on here. It's a bunch of people from around the world rarely doing 10k's but we've all tended to graduate from C25k. Share, ask questions and enjoy yourself. :)…
  • @taeliesyn will send a pm tonight, can share excel workbook with all sort of guff in it. It's got some of Fitzgeralds 80/20 plan in it too. I effectively converted an Ultra plan into the 80/20 format. Been up since 0400 working, missed the planned 6 miler this morning, will attempt to get out tonight to make up for it.
  • @taeliesyn The ultra plan maxes out at 85km in a week. There are six other weeks over 75km so with some cycling in to stress the CV system without overtaxing the knees, I think it should be ok. You're heading towards the middle of summer, aghh those warmer long days, hope you find a solution to the puppy runs, a.m. might…
  • @taeliesyn yep have a 24 week plan starting 4 January basically running 5 days a week, I have to get back there. It was why I was trying to use a 10k improver just to get back to running but I really don't enjoy the big suck sessions. For the Ultra, single long runs start at 12 miles and just get longer, peeking at 30…
  • It was wet, it was cold, I was tired but I still got out and did 35mins at a slow pace. Hopefully mornings will get better.
  • I am not a qualified physio or doctor so ultimately it is up to you. However from my stance the issue is whether you think this is a stress issue, the muscles holding the knee are just not strong enough yet, too big an increase in mileage too soon or whether it is a true biomechanical issue, after x number of steps the…
  • Great to read that you are trying to find time for yourself, it's important, have noticed the increased activity on your Strava account. Hope it all goes well.
  • @Just_Ceci fingers crossed for you @moyer566 a lot of people go off too fast, it's the adrenaline. If you can pace yourself you do seem to be going backwards as the adrenaline junkies fly by. You have to trust your timing and plan. I suspect if you got it right you should have started going past the people that passed you…
  • @LLduds you are connecting a nice bling set @MeanderingMammal nice to see you out running again, hope the training continues to go well. What training plan did you decide on in the end? @Just_Ceci nice set of training run and rides @taeliesyn nice to see that streak continue Had a duathlon this morning, this time on a…
  • @moyer566 good luck with the race. For those in the States enjoy your Thanksgiving Had a better run tonight 4.5 miles at 9:52 pace, so a minute per mile better than Monday morning with broadly similar heart rate profile. Another night where sheer bloodymindedness beat the urge to just sit on my backside and be cosy. Need…
  • @Just_Ceci nice running, shame about that 26 secs to get under an hour officially. And I am glad you got to run the 5k with your girls @moyer566 go on, get out there, says he who avoided going out on Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Always found something more enjoyable to do!! @JSC145 for us NHers there is till more bad…
  • Sorry I have no idea, it is not something I have ever experienced or heard of before. Hope you find an answer soon
  • AAghh DOMS, the true sign of commitment, glad it is calming down
  • One mans recovery is anothers max effort. You are putting us all to shame :p Have fun
  • Suck session done, it was horrid and way off pace, but at least that is one nagging annoyance crushed. Looking forward to the next suck session already (not). :D Have fun
  • @LLduds ref the duathlon, I paid for it so I did it. The course is designed as an off road challenge, the weather just made it more so. I did a complete overhaul of the brakes and found the culprit, one of the brake pads was back to the metal. Waiting for new pads to arrive so can get the bike up and running. I had not…
  • @LLduds Congratulations on the HM, bridge races are killers, people never realise how steep the bridge decks are. Looks like you had a great day, well done again.
