Macka9 do you live in southern Tasmania, the backgrounds in your pics look very familiar....

As a visitor to the US I would say portion size for sure but also I couldn't get over how sweet normal commercially made bread is in the US. It tastes like dessert buns or something. I had to go to a village market and buy some home made sourdough bread in order to not feel like I was having some revolting dessert salad…

Hi Claire, The body comp scales or analysers usually all work on measuring the impedance of an electrical current through your body. Then your body fat% and Fat mass are calculated from this measurement. They are highly reliant on your hydration status and are notoriously unreliable as one off measures but may be helpful…

How I work my Fitbit is I have it linked to Fitbit and I have negative adjustments enabled. I log food in MFP only and I go off MFP calorie goals. I log exercised in Fitbit but only non-step based activities, eg bike riding. Things like walking on a treadmill are automatically logged by step count by the Fitbit. Logging…

Yes the fitbit is estimating that so far on this day (you still have 6 hours to go) you have burnt 1831 calories total (ie BMR plus all activities.). The fibit uses a calculation to determine your BMR, and then adds the BMR incremently to your calories total as the day proceeds, so you still have 6 hours of BMR and…

Thanks for your thoughts. I don't think any of it was intentional on the old guys part, he ended up nearly as embarrassed as I was. I just wanted to process how I felt about the situation. I guess its the same as when you mistake someone with long blonde hair for another person with long blonde hair...you have a mental…

Do you have the energy/time to try to start a riding group? Maybe there are some people around who would like to do something like this?
-
Have you considered trying a body recomp. Perhaps that is an alternative way to get a shape you are happy with rather than this restrict and binge cycle you are on?
-
Perhaps its not me, perhaps its my sleeping environment....... Thanks all for the sympathy/support.

Thanks for all the replies. Synacious, I appreciate the detail in your response and I will try some of your suggestions. I have a doctor's appointment soon so will ask about the things suggested here including vit D and thyroid and iron (I have been iron deficient before). I have PCOS so modifying my carb intake and upping…

Maybe I am too honest. If the fitbit was dropped and someone found it and didn't hand it in to an information booth or wherever and decided to keep it for themselves, I would still call that stealing, they knew it didn't belong to them and kept it anyways.....

What is happening here is because the government is getting tougher on food labelling and there is a star health system coming in for food per serve, the manufacturers are decreasing the size of a serve on the nutritional panel so that they can get a better rating because it then takes up a lessor portion of your…

Australians say tank tops too are least in my part of Australia. As camilacreme said, active wear is very popular in Australia as hanging out wear even amongst non-gym goers, so much so that someone made this video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CYRENWT8lz8

Perhaps one of the guys like sidesteel will answer but I am guessing they might say don't reduce your calories but start heavy lifting weight training? Maybe have a google of how to undertake body recomposition? Seems to be a common question on here regarding being at a healthy weight but body not quite looking how you…

I think you linked the wrong video, but the one you did link about mindset was very helpful to me. Thanks. I did find the paper towel one which I think you meant to link!

I avoid the confusion by logging my food in MFP and purposeful exercise in Fitbit. I have them synced and run off the MFP numbers for calories in/out totals. That way I have nice charts etc in Fitbit and only one set of totals for the day in MFP.

You can lose weight without exercising so anything you do will be good for your body and help your weight loss along. Depending upon how your body feels perhaps be careful about pushing too hard/doing too much and injuring yourself at this stage (speaking from personal experience). I am thinking that as you lose weight you…

If you click on quote beneath the post you want to reply to, it will come up in text in your reply box, then write your reply underneath it and click Post Reply. Then the post you are replying to will appear in a grey box above your reply so everyone will know who you are responding to (like some people's replies above).…

I work with scientists from the USA (I'm Australian) and if I ask them something science related they talk metric. ie the field area we are working in is "1.5km by 2km", something weighs "2.6kg" or moved at "15km/hr" but if I ask them how far it is to the next town its "about 4 miles". When I comment on the mile thing they…

Are the fish and chicken new as daily items? I have a friend who always flares his gout when he eats more than average protein.

Well I guess I am only a sample size of 1 but I measure my walking distance and time so know how far I walk in an hour....
-
I am an inch taller than you but weigh 30 odd kgs more and I burn about 4 cals a minute at that pace according to my HRM, so 240 in an hour. Fitbit gives me about the same.

It is true that you are slightly shorter at the end of the day than at the beginning. Gravity leads to slight compression of the discs between your verterbra.
-
My understanding is that the TDEE total already includes your workouts so if you eat back your exercise cals you are double dipping so to speak. ie you don't get to eat them back. I don't exercise consistently so I use the mfp method (which I think is called NEAT?). By eating over 1600 you have cut in to your deficit for…

Did you take a before and after photo? Or some measurements? If not take some now and keep going. There absolutely will be changes but if you are like me, you find them hard to see in yourself. 30 pounds is a great effort!
-
You were double logging your exercise, that's why you were ending up with big numbers! If I do anything other than step based activity, I log it in Fitbit (Fitbit then overwrites the activity it had automatically assigned for that time). I log food in My Fitness Pal (MFP and I think what you mean by Under Armour) and work…

Congratulations on making your lifestyle changes. I wouldn't worry too much about the diet soda, the alcohol will destroy your health long before the diet soda. I am probably saying something you already know but you are aware that alcohol is a depressant right? If you are drinking enough to have a significant hangover…

Do you do intervals for your treadmill work out rather than steady state running? It might help???

Is the friend who said you need to eat 5 meals a day the same one who is concerned about a mass break out of sugar in your blender? If so I would take great caution in acting on any advice from said friend....

If you are doing a dinky tourist trail ride at a walk maybe but if you have ever had a proper individual riding lesson or ridden and trained for competition you would not be saying this.... Its great exercise but I never figured out a way to count it so didn't and treated it as a "bonus" activity. Pilates is great…
