This. Holding on to the arms actually decreases the amount of work you have to do. It's better to swing your arms slightly as you would do when you walk or jog. If you want some more arm involvement, you could hold on to cans/bottles/dumbbells.

What everyone else said, it's a programme for beginners. And once you're done with it, you can do another programme or you could even run it again with increased weights. Oh, and fyi, I've been lifting for almost a year now and I still can't do a single pull-up.
-
You can't spot reduce... That being said, I like FitnessBlender.

Seriously? Pull-ups, pistol squats and one-handed push-ups for someone who describes themselves as very weak? I lift weights, currently doing one of Nia Shanks' programmes, and wouldn't consider myself weak anymore in most lifts but I still can't do a single one of these exercises. In addition, bodyweight training is much…

That sounds like you're already on a really good way!! :) Fitness Blender is another great resource and Nia Shanks also has a bodyweight only programme.
-
Was also going to suggest bodyweight training, You Are Your Own Gym/Body By You (both by the same author, YAYOG is marketed towards men and BBY towards women) and Convict Conditioning. Walking won't make you stronger but a combination of bodyweight training and walking would be a great way to overall better fitness.

Read the first post of this thread. If you follow MFP's method for figuring out calories, set your goal to lose 0.25kg/0.5lbs a week and eat back about 75% of your exercise calories. Stick to this for a month and adjust based on results.

Thanks, @usmcmp, @senecarr and @SideSteel for the explanations! I've got the link to Lyle McDonald's article bookmarked and will do some more reading as this is the first time I've heard about this.

Could you give more info on that?

I can't stand artificial sweeteners or stevia so I buy unflavoured whey. I don't like fruits with protein powder either. But I finally figured out a shake that tastes great (for real, not just for a protein shake). I mix one scoop whey (30g) with around 17g each of cocoa (the unsweetened one) and honey, and ca. 300ml…

You can also just put the weight of the whole thing as servings and then log it, 1 serving being 1g. Makes it easier to adjust if you change the recipe slightly.

Get a beginner's strength programme and follow that. Especially as a beginner, you will see much better results than when you make up your own stuff. Nia Shanks has a dumbbell and bodyweight only programme. You can also pick a barbell beginner programme and adjust it (good input for that here) but as a total beginner it…

Especially as a beginner, it really makes more sense to follow a programme. I started making up my own stuff (after a lot of research) but switched to Strong Curves after a few months and saw much better progress. Good programmes to start with are Strong Curves, Starting Strength, New Rules of Lifting, StrongLifts 5x5,…

One night isn't gonna undo everything (just like one good day isn't enough to make you lose weight). I love Indian food and I rarely ever eat out so when I do, I don't worry too much about calories (and I never worry about carbs as there's nothing wrong with carbs unless you have a medical condition that requires you to…

Please don't implement any form of intermittent fasting without double checking with your doctor! There are a few studies indicating it might have negative effects on women's hormones. See this article for a summary. Apart from that I'd follow the advice to weigh all your food on your digital scale for greater accuracy.

Would you teach that your daughters? Don't wear make-up, don't wear short skirts, don't look pretty or you'll encourage being raped? Really? And here I was thinking our society had moved past victim blaming. What exactly should little girls (and boys) and grown-up women (and men) do to deter paedophiles and rapists? You, I…

I log it, following this method. Doesn't take a second.

Nobody loses constantly ;) Weight loss isn't linear, it fluctuates due to a lot of reasons (bowel movement, hormones, water and salt intake etc.), which is why it's always better to look at long-term trends. Personally, I prefer to weigh myself every day in the morning and I add the weight into an app called Libra, which…

Because vegetables have very few calories (but lots of micronutrients) per both weight and volume. A handful of mushrooms has less calories than a handful of yogurt has less calories than a handful of nuts. If you want more accuracy, you should consider a digital food scale like @Francl27 suggested, though. If you're…

Lost around 80 lbs a few years back with counting calories (weighing everything on a digital food scale) and moving more (not mandatory for weightloss but highly beneficial, start out slow). Maintained that, after a while without logging my food anymore. Now back to lose a bit more and 'tone' (body recomposition). Be aware…

Wow, that is awesome, WTG! Another way to increase the difficulty would be by gradually elevating your foot on a surface.

Not much, if any. Lifting strengthens the muscles underneath your boobs but the boobs themselves are mainly fat and glandular tissue, which isn't affected by any type of exercise—other than walking to a surgeon's practice, that is...

Also confused about the wedding thing—maybe it just got lost in the mail? But, anyways:

This! Maybe this is my European ignorance, but what the heck else would pasta contain other than flour, water and salt (and egg for some varieties)?

I'm pretty sure he did, too... Anything that claims to be the only thing that works and to reveal amazing new secrets if you pay them, should be viewed with scepticism. Read this: community.myfitnesspal.com/en/discussion/1080242/a-guide-to-get-you-started-on-your-path-to-sexypants#latest. Pick a sensible calorie…
