I love ALDI (although, like everyone else I know, I call it "Aldi's" lol) and have never found their produce to be icky, as the poster above stated. Maybe it's because the one here is really popular so I bet they restock their produce frequently. The only reason I don't go there more often is because they inevitably don't…

Well in a way that doesn't bother me that much because I would rather have it underestimate my activity than overestimate (and it seems like it's more likely to underestimate, especially in the case of using an elliptical, which is my main form of exercise.) Thanks for the info, though.

It's based off BMI, so if you're someone with a lot of muscle, then I suppose you'd find it inaccurate. For the average person, however, it gives healthy weight ranges, the same ones my doctor always gives me and my husband.

It seems to me that the first result you get upon Googling "ideal weight" is a pretty good one. I've also seen calculators that take into account your lowest weight of your adult life, the weight you feel happiest at, etc. so I'll look for that one, too. But I think if you asked a doctor, they would point you to a weight…

Do you eat late at night? I weigh lowest in the afternoon/early evening and highest in the morning, but that's because I eat my one meal quite late at night (I do IF and have a weird work/school schedule). I also know my weight status by checking my wedding band lol. Mine is also more snug in the morning and loosens once…

I do see your point. However, I attend two separate chats on a semi-regular basis, both recovery-related (which is total troll bait) and they're managed fairly successfully with a few mods who come on chat regularly. Also, both of these websites have extremely active forums, the chat is just a supplement. Chat serves a…

Edited because I don't want people to get funny ideas : / But anyway, I really hope you see a Dr. about this issue, it sounds like something's really not right.

I think it's important to set your calories in a range that you're going to be able to stick to long-term. If you're struggling at 1250, you're more like to end up feeling deprived and then overeat as a result. You may lose weight slightly slower if you up your intake, but it's more likely that you're going to keep it off…

lol well it's an interesting thought, but probably not the best idea for those of us that are currently in class (me!) or at work. Plus trolls in voice chat are so much more obnoxious than in text chat.

I've always chalked up my consistent weekend 3-lb. weight gain to just eating more salt on the weekends, because my calorie count is still low. But this is good to know, because I also work out 4-6 hours over the course of the weekend so maybe part of the water retention is due to that. Luckily I've tracked these patterns…

Yay! There are so many people here that are super-active so I think a chat would go over well. I'll keep waiting to see if anyone replies who remembers the old chat and if it's still there somewhere. Otherwise, does anyone know a place we could start a free chat? I know of Chatango but that isn't always the most stable, it…

My co-worker recently went through having to make this decision, not at her daughter's request, but at her daughter's doctor's suggestion because of very painful menstrual cramps. Her daughter has had a couple of boyfriends and they've talked openly about birth control in the past: my co-worker has always requested that…

I pretty much always gain about 3 lbs. from Friday to Saturday/Sunday, mostly because I eat more foods away from home over the weekend that are undoubtedly loaded with sodium compared to my usual intake during the week. By Monday/Tuesday my weight drops back down. If you know you have eaten or are going to be eating higher…

bumping so I can see the replies later :) I'm looking for a Christmas present for myself and something like this might fit the bill

Love these, keep 'em coming!

Certain eating plans, like Atkins, have you count your Net Carbs which is the total number of carbohydrates in a food minus any fiber. Fiber isn't digested by the body, just passed through and does not raise your blood sugar like other carbs, therefore it's not counted in your Net Carb intake.

Just throwing this one out there to make sure we've covered all the bases: do you take a multi-vitamin in the morning at all? I had about a week of morning nausea before I figured out it was because I wasn't taking enough food with my multi-vitamin. Now I make sure to have it with a bigger meal.

To use my husband's favorite way to complement a woman's appearance: You look bangin'! Seriously, steal that dress from your friend and wear it all the time lol. I'm now about where you were when you started. Sometimes it feels so daunting to get down to my wedding-day weight of 163...like it's going to take forever. But…

Most meats and fish (real fish, not the imitation stuff or fish sticks) have 0g carbs. Eggs are generally considered very low-carb or carb-free, though some brands list 1g on the container. Real cheese is very low-carb. But yes, beyond those things, pretty much everything else has carbs in them. The Atkins Induction phase,…

^^This is what I find aggravating. They get you to pay your monthly fee if you're doing WW online or in-person and then every couple years they overhaul the program so now you also have to fork out more cash to buy new materials (cookbooks, Points sliders, Points calculators, etc.) if you want to stay current. I do think…

To the OP: Well, she's not doing MFP, she's doing a diet. Though Jenny Craig may become a "lifestyle" for her, it IS a diet plan after all. Weight Watchers, Jenny Craig, the Biggest Loser plan*, etc. all allow for a woman to eat 1200 calories a day and not necessarily eat back exercise calories. The focus on MFP is a…

I have to disagree with the comment about fruit sugar being the same as processed cane sugar. It's not. Sugar from fruit (fructose) has a glycemic index of 20 while table sugar (sucrose) has a glycemic index of 59. The elevating effects on blood sugar from a piece of fruit with 20g of fructose is 1/3rd of that from a…

Hey there, I took a look at the past week of what you ate. The one thing I noticed is that you're usually going over on fats and sugars because of one or two items each day, so it shouldn't be too difficult to make some better substitutes. Here are some suggestions: -Instead of Peaches-n-Cream oatmeal, try regular oatmeal…

There's way too much to do in life...no need to be bored! Start setting some goals for yourself and work toward those goals. Last year around this time I made a list of goals for myself. I only accomplished maybe half of them, but they've sure kept me busy. Some of my goals: go back to school, learn to play piano, finish…

My friend does WW and she was also confused about how they could calculate Points without calories. It's actually fairly simple: the new Point system takes into account carbs, fat and protein, each of which have a certain number of calories per gram. Fat has 9 calories per gram, protein has 4 calories per gram and…

I can relate to a lot of what you said. I, too, gained a little over 100 lbs. in less than two years, going from a normal weight to obese. My weight gain was a result of both binge-eating and alcohol abuse. I'm now almost a year sober from alcohol, but still struggling with how I eat. It's so wonderful that you were able…

Some of the reactions to this post are exactly why I rarely would describe myself out loud as a feminist (though I do consider myself to be one). Did something intended as a helpful tip need to be taken so seriously? It was fairly obvious to me that the OP had no malicious intent and was merely trying to point out…

We're above the income level for things like Medicaid. And I actually did not mention any of my mental health history on my insurance application because none of the questions specifically covered it. So they pulled it from my medical records. My husband also got denied, him for high blood pressure. They must have also…

Thanks everyone for your thoughtful replies. @MSWDiet—I guess I should have stated my initial question a little differently. I don’t in any way expect MFP to be a “cure.” I guess I just meant that because everyone on here uses MFP, I wanted to hear from people who used MFP as one of their tools to help overcome COE/BED.…

Thank you, jane! I read through a bit of the BED thread and it looks like something that might be really helpful for me.
