I think you meant to say your Calorie Goal is 1200 per day? My Fitness Pal works in a way that allows you to lose weight with zero exercise. So that 1200 calorie number is your goal to reach in order to lose weight, you don't need to eat under that amount. When you exercise, you need to log it in the exercise tab. This…

It's pretty well known around here that MFP estimate for elliptical calorie burns are extremely generous. I usually log 30 mins for every 3 miles I do on the elliptical. Sometimes it takes me 45 mins. Logging 80% of the amount of time you do on the elliptical works as well. A good general rule of thumb is 100 calories per…

You should really be watching your calorie intake. That is pretty much it. If you care about macros, sugar counts as a carbohydrate and is not evil. Most people who are trying to be healthy/lose weight tend to avoid REFINED sugars because they are a lot of calories with very little grams of food/nutrition. The other reason…

ALSO. It seems like people have this impression that they MUST wait until AFTER they exercise to eat more. If you know you're going to be burning a lot at the gym, it's perfectly fine to have a larger breakfast/extra snack BEFORE you exercise. You don't have to wait. You can also *gasp* use half for tomorrow if you so…

Very true, they are just calculations. I just think the idea that BMR is maintenance is a dangerous idea, especially the way a lot of people under eat on this website. If my maintenance calories were my BMR, I think I'd cry every day, such a small pittance of food.
-
That isn't sedentary, that would be comatose. Most websites definition of sedentary can include up to 3000 steps per day. Even sitting all day would burn more over your BMR than laying down.
-
Even if I was sedentary, would I would lose weight eating my BMR which is 1460 calories a day. I maintain at 1800 doing nothing, so I'm not really understanding how you could believe BMR is maintenance. I normally agree with most everything you say, so this is pretty confusing. It's my understanding that BMR is closer to…

The other problem with eating below your BMR on a regular basis is that your brain is unable to convert your fat stores into energy so it can function, and it uses more calories than you would think. So it converts your lean muscle mass into energy. If you do this long enough, you will end up losing a good deal of your…

Thank you for posting this. I have seen many members here who think they "feel fine" until they have a major health crisis and realize the amount of damage they were doing to themselves, sometimes too late. It is never okay to eat very few calories and then exercise off even more. It's a real disease called exercise…

Please keep in mind that you shouldn't jump right on the scale as soon as you up your calories. This is because you will gain some water and waste weight, it's temporary and doesn't automatically mean you gained "fat" from eating a normal amount of food. Give it a few weeks to come off.
-
Don't worry, there are at least 10 posts a day about how someone can't seem to lose any weight from their stomach. The grass is always greener on the other side. It will eventually come off, patience =)

The way MFP is designed is so you can lose weight with zero exercise. The concept of net is that if you exercise, you can then eat the calories burned to maintain the exact same deficit as if you didn't exercise and only ate your calorie goal of 1210 that day. Example: Today you didn't exercise and ate 1210 calories, both…

You're over thinking this. Just make healthy choices and eat similar things to what you already have been, just a little less so it fits into your calorie goal for the day. There are a lot of people on this site who literally eat fast food for nearly every meal and lose weight every week. But they look at the nutrition…

I definitely agree with psulemon. Also the biggest problem with your plan is that it is a "diet". You will lose weight, too fast probably and a lot of lean muscle mass. Then when you go off of your "diet", you will gain the weight back and possibly more because your metabolism will be slower due to the loss of lean muscle…

I looked at your diary and I can see why you are having issues instantly. I know nuts are really healthy for us, but about 300-400 of your calories every day are devoted to snacking on nuts. I'd be starving too. In addition.... No more granola bars (another almost 400 calories every day) or smoothies in the morning. You…

You need to go to the doctor. Including the emergency room if you are still in pain. It could be anything, including an obstruction, which is life threatening. No one here is a doctor, and if they are, they would insist on giving you a proper medical evaluation in person, in a medical facility.

No, BMR is actually the number of calories your body needs to do basic functioning while in a coma. You need to figure out how many calories you burn to maintain your current weight. To do this you can simply set MFP to lose 0lbs per week and notice the amount of calories it gives you as your goal. Or go to…

Since you only have 9lbs left to lose, you might want to change your weekly goal to .5lbs a week instead of 1lb. It's very important to keep a very small deficit while you're losing those last few pounds. The extra 250 calorie wiggle room may even ease your hunger so you can stick to the goal. I know .5lbs sounds sucky,…

Water weight can mask weight loss when you are using a scale. I have definitely had weeks where I lost no weight according to the scale, then all of the sudden 3 weeks later I "lose" 2lbs over night. Clearly, it isn't because I literally lost weight over night, it was because I had been losing weight all along, but extra…

You really haven't lost a single pound in 2 months? I looked back 2 months in your diary and the only things that concerned me were the days you literally ate under 800 calories, which is too little, for anyone. There was also 1 week in Sept that you didn't log at all and 1 day where you only logged 17 calories for tea.…

Welcome to MFP. Some quick advice. 1.) Stick to your calorie goal (do not be tempted to under eat), if you exercise, log and eat them. Some exercises on MFP tend to over estimate calories burned, such as the elliptical machine, so eat 80% of those calories. A lot of new people tend to believe that eating under their…

Some people log their weight every day/week on MFP, even if it went up. I am one to only put it in when it's lower, I haven't had any issues with "setting myself up" I'm not sure what you mean by that.

I have to agree with others, 2 weeks is not a plateau. I've been losing weight since mid June and sometimes I lose nothing for 3 weeks at a time, then suddenly drop 2-3lbs. Sometimes your hormones or sodium can affect whether or not the scale moves, it doesn't mean you aren't losing weight though. As long as you are…

I agree, the skinny cow ice cream treats taste really good and are easy to fit into ones calorie budget. The Trader joe's Soy creamy's are also really good, I think they are re-branded tofutties. I know soy ice cream isn't "real" but I honestly can't tell the difference except that I don't get all stuffed up in my nose…

It's completely personal preference, one way isn't going to make you lose weight faster or look better sooner. Some people get light headed if they don't eat before, some don't. I personally feel like I can do more or go harder if I eat some carbs before hand.
-
I've tried several of the flavors, they are really icy and kinda weird. In hindsight, I'd rather just save up my calories and eat some real gelato or ice cream.

You talk a lot about exercise and watching your carb intake, but don't really say anything about calories or if you plan on tracking them. You can exercise all you want and try to limit carbs, but if you aren't in a calorie deficit, it isn't' going to help guarantee a 1lb per week loss. So make sure you track your calories…
