Thank you for starting the group! From dealing with my injury to great advice to great support, everyone on here is great!

In for responses. I for the past two years, I have never had 10 toenails at once - just 8 right now. I've tried everything - multiple pairs of good shoes that were fitted in running stores, orthotics, taping, keeping toenails short, non-cotton socks, etc. Nothing has helped for me. I think maybe it has to do with the way I…

Not plastic bags, but curling ribbon for wrapping gifts. I cleaned up multiple festive turds before I banned that stuff from my house forever.

I think you already know that you are not fat, that you need to eat, and that you must gain weight when you are pregnant. The issue is your husband, not you. Please look up the definition of emotional abuse - he's textbook. eta: this isn't you being overly sensitive. if it's a "joke", you should both think it's funny,…

No advice, just good luck wishes (and a little envy) from me.

Dear Driver - I'm sorry that my presence on the road prevented you from cutting five feet over the white line so that you couldn't take that corner at 50 mph instead of the posted 30 mph. I am sure that I made you even more late when you had to hit the brakes, and I completely distracted you from your hurried efforts when…

true nutrition (online) sells several vegan protein powders - soy, rice, pea, hemp, and rice/pea/hemp optimized blend. You can choose your own sweetener and flavor. Their prices are pretty good when you buy a couple pounds at a time.

No. Might meet depending on the situation. Some of my friends are local and do running events so there's a good possibility I'll end up in the same place as some of them.

I went from running a 5K to running a marathon in one year using the Hal Higdon novice program. In hindsight, I wish I'd had more experience under my belt before I tried it, but I'm glad I did it. Everyone is giving great advice. I would only add that you should listen to your body. If you are not recovering enough between…

Not sure about your exact situation, but last year when there was a possible stress fracture in my heel due to landing wrong (acute injury, not chronic), I was told that a fresh hairline fracture may not show up on an x-ray right away and that I needed to come back in 10 days for another because they become visible on the…

I quit baking too. Even Starbucks sells single brownies. You should be able to find one. ETA - maybe hubby would split the 500-calorie frozen brownie with you if you can't find one in a bakery.

Same here.

I'd take the time to calculate the calories for your favorite 10 to 20 recipies. It's a lot of work up front, but once they are in, you can use them forever. I've been tracking for several years, and don't have to add new recipies for my home cooked meals too often. Also, the recipies are easy to modify if you substitute…

This happened to me when I was a child. Apparently, I refused to eat any vegetable other than carrots. My mom took me to the dr. thinking that I had jaundice, but it was just too many carrots. When I look at old photos from that time period, I think I look more yellow than orange - kind of like a Simpsons character.

Strictly based on your budget and assuming that means travel/air and accomodations, I would consider a resort on the Riviera Maya (Mexico). You could get a stay at an all-inclusive and travel to swim with the turtles, see ruins, and swim cenotoes. PM me if you want reccomendations - I go about 3 times per year.

When I was really young, I thought there were actually real tiny people inside the radio singing the songs. I always wondered why I couldn't send what was left on my plate to all the starving kids in Ethiopia. I thought that adults knew everything.

He added me as "in a relationship" and then kept up photos of a one-time date with another girl. These were date photos which included bikini shots of her, candlelight dinner with his arm around her, and a photo caption saying "why is she smiling? Is it the wine or the good company?" I asked him to take them down after…

My grandma posted on facebook that my grandfather died. Oh....and that it apparently ISN'T ok to ask the guy who you are you listed "in a relationship" on his page to take down photos of himself on dates with other women.

Thanks everyone - I didn't know Saucony made a Guide trail shoe! I think I'll try on those, the Brooks Cascadia, and the SpeedCross to start with. I know we all have different gear needs, but I really value everyone's help in getting me started.

Boo to Self magazine for doing that. Isn't this magazine supposed to make women feel good about themselves?!!! Tutus, capes, bodysuits, crazy socks....they all make the events so much fun. The dis to Monika Allen is horrible. I also wonder how many of their other readers they insulted as well. Hooray to Glam Runner for…

My own experience is that if your glycogen stores aren't high enough before you start the race, you aren't going to be able to make if up with gels. I did two 20 mile training runs before my full marathon. Before the first one, I made sure I carb-loaded properly and I felt great at the end of the run. I got a little too…

I didn't know about this app and want to try it now. I use Every Move and Earndit to work toward prizes, discounts, and charity donations and that keeps me motivated. I won a $50 gift card from a site on Earndit and used it to get a nice hydration pack for running.

Could it be a heel spur or fat pad injury? I stepped of a curb wrong last summer and thought I'd fractured my heel. I did have an x-ray, but the dr. assured me that if it was a stress fracture the pain would be very, very intense - so hopefully, that isn't your problem. With my injury the main symptom was a sharp shooting…

In for the responses. I do halfs regularly for fun right now and don't really train for them, but my son wants to run his first half in June and I told him I'd train with him. He's only 11 but can already do 10 miles so I'm not worried about whether or not he can do it. We start training next weekend and we've been having…

My kids (11 and 14) definitely became more active when I started running. My 11 year old is now training for his first half marathon and plans to do it this summer. (He can already run 10 miles.) My kids influence me, too. If it wasn't for my kids, I'd spend a lot more Saturday mornings sleeping in, instead of getting up…

Trying to do 12 halfs this year, but might make it to 14. I've done 4 already - January - Rain Run Half February - Frost Eagle Half (trail) March - Lake Sammammish Half Mercer Island Half Upcoming - registered or planned: March: Dash Point 10K trail run with my kids (registered) April - Heroes Half May - Grand Ridge Half…

I don't mind if it starts raining while I am doing a training run and I have to finish the run that way, but if it's a stormy day and I have to go out into the rain, I don't like it. I will often wait a few hours (or until the next day) and hope the weather lets up. I live in the Seattle area where it seems that 30% chance…

I wouldn't worry about your pace either. You are doing awesome. In most 5Ks there are people of all abilities running - some sprint the whole thing in less less than 20 minutes and some walk most or all of the way. Fast or slow, they are out there doing it! You've trained hard you can do it.
