I scrolled back through my exercise logs and this is what I've got (I am 5'4", female, ~160lbs, age 32; I use a Timex HRM): Phase 2 weeks 7-8 Workout 7: 265 Workout 8: 285 Cardio 2: 340 Phase 3 weeks 9-10 Workout 9: 365 Workout 10: 340 Cardio 3: 390 I'm pushing harder on phase 3, plus the workouts are crazy harder, so I'm…

Despite the fact that I don't have to go to work, it STILL feels like a Monday (definitely rocking that "I don't wanna" feeling this morning). Kudos to all who shlepped their way into work today :drinker: I still need to get more yard & garden work done, so today's goals are to (1) transplant some old Italian and Thai…

This. I use one and have never ever had a leak, even after 8+ hours of wear with vigorous exercise (e.g. 3+ hours of beach volleyball).

Hello all! So I've been doing the new Jillian Michaels Body Revolution workout (for those who haven't seen the infomercials that are on pretty much constantly, it's like p90x...but Jillian, and you don't have to do pullups). I started the third month this week and I just have to say that my glutes are so sore that it hurts…

Classes start up again August 27. I LOVE the semester system. When I was in grad school we were on quarters and it felt like the academic year lasted FOREVER (not that I got summers off - I was still doing research - but still); semesters are by far superior. I just finished with all the gardening work I think I'm going to…

Good morning all! I just submitted grades for my students, which means that, as of right now, I am OFFICIALLY on summer vacation! Woohoo! :drinker: Since we finally have a break in the rain, I'm hoping to get outside and get some much-needed yard work done. I have a bunch of baby veggie plants that need to go in the…

My name is Emma, and I have always *loved* my name. My brothers and husband are allowed to call me "Em", but I prefer not to have my name shortened by people who don't know me. My mom just calls me "Oh my darling daughter"...which is a little weird since I'm in my 30s, but it still makes me smile :-) I also got a lot of…

1. Finish JM's Body Revolution (technically I'll finish on June 2...but still) 2. Lose at least 5lbs 3. Ride my bike more often (which will be easier after the end of the semester where I teach) 4. Get my veggie garden planted!

I would say go with the number from your body comp analysis. As Azdak points out, HRMs aren't really made to measure resting calorie burn, so they can be very inaccurate. I trust mine because it spits out a number reasonably close to my daily calorie needs (according to my body comp scale). Of course, if you decide to…

I always subtract my kcal burned while sedentary from my kcals burned during workouts (if the workout is at least 30 min) and enter that number for my workout calories. For example, my HRM says I burn 80kcal/hour just sitting, so if I work out for 30 min and my HRM says I burned 350kcal, I enter 350-40=310kcal burned into…

I'm not Italian, but I do love me some pasta. I make it healthier by always using whole wheat pasta, making individual servings (and measuring out the dry pasta before cooking...this is much easier with penne or rotini than spaghetti, etc), and adding LOTS of veggies to it. May favorite: whole wheat rotini with 1/3-2/3c…

When we were dating, my husband and I were in a similar situation with distance and not seeing each other too often. He invited me to join a beach volleyball league with some of his friends and (despite the fact that I stink at volleyball) it was really fun and a great workout. If they're available where you are, summer…

Workouts 7 & 8 are awesome in a crazy painful way for me. I just finished my 2nd time through workout 7...my shoulders are ON FIRE from all of the planks and pushups. And my legs are still sore from all of the pendulum and crossover lunges from 8 (2 days ago). Ouch! So far I haven't noticed ANY weight loss through this…

Hello, I'm Emma, 32, college prof (biology & psychology). I've been on MFP for about a year and I'd like to lose about 15-20lbs. I lost 10lbs or so last year, but I've gained back most of it (sort of fell off the bandwagon with logging food, and was a bit lazy on the exercise for a while, too). I'm about halfway through…

I just finished my third round of cardio 2. I have to agree that I hate high knees, but (for me) the worst part about cardio 2 is the MULTIPLE moves that are very tiring for my lower leg muscles - jumping rope, plie hops, jumping jacks, cross jacks, skiiers/moguls, etc. - none of these are terrible on their own, but after…

If you want something different, try something like this: http://www.eatingwell.com/recipes/blueberry_bourbon_barbecue_sauce.html The blueberry bourbon combination is freaking awesome, but I've also tweaked the recipe to use sweet cherries + chipotle peppers OR tart apples + red onions (with a hit of cinnamon to go with…

Walking absolutely counts as exercise. Of course higher activity levels are going to burn more calories in a shorter amount of time, but low-moderate level activity still counts! Even the CDC says that walking counts: http://www.cdc.gov/physicalactivity/everyone/guidelines/adults.html

I was using Ryka cross-trainers, but I noticed in cardio 1 that the running mans were making the arches of my feet hurt really bad (the arch of my left foot actually cramped/swelled up so bad once that I couldn't walk comfortably on it for several hours; I had to ice and Ace bandage it for the rest of the day). So…

I've made the rosemary citrus tilapia - it was really good. I omitted the capers (I don't care for them) and used lettuce and spinach instead of arugula because I already had these on hand. I also used Kraft light raspberry balsamic vinaigrette for the dressing because I love it and always have it on hand. Yum! The…

Just to update. I've "officially" gained 3lbs in Phase 1, but I've lost 2" EACH on bust, waist, and hips. (I almost can't believe that myself, it seems a little ridiculous.) I have a Bowflex body composition scale that says my water weight and muscle mass have increased, but my body fat has stayed about the same. Hopefully…

First, it is totally normal to gain weight at first on an exercise plan like this (I gained 2lbs in the first 2 weeks of the 30DS but lost it again later, and I lost several inches; I'm now doing JM's Body Revolution and have gained 4lbs in the first month, while losing 2" each on bust, waist, & hips). According to my body…

I just started Phase 2 this week. I did do the kickstart exercise plan with Phase 1, but I only did the diet plan for about 2.5 days (I was starving and the lack of carbs was making me not a very nice person  ). I haven't really been tracking calories, but I have been working hard to eat reasonable meals...since I've…

^^ This, and if you're strict about limiting your salt intake, you can ease up for a few days - a little bit of extra salt will help you hold onto your fluids and bring your blood volume back up so you don't feel light-headed or pass out when you're working out (or even standing for a long time). Extra iron is also a good…

adamb83 - you might have to work out an alternate meal plan. There are only 3 options each for breakfasts, lunches, snacks, and dinners in the kickstart week, and nearly all of them include dairy, eggs, or meat - only two of the snacks are meat- and dairy-free (if dairy is OK, that only gives you an additional snack and a…

I have four SubZero stainless steel water bottles - got them at Meijer (midwest store, somewhere between K-Mart and Target-type store) for only $4 each. I always keep full bottles in the refrigerator so I have cold drinking water. I love that these have a large-ish screw cap (no flip-up lid to get all gross) and they…

I like to make a pineapple jalapeno salsa and serve with either plain grilled fish (salmon, tilapia, and catfish all work, probably others too), or blackened fish (rubbed with blackened seasoning before grilling); recipes below. My husband used to hate fish, but he LOVES this pineapple salsa, so I used it to convert him…

I've done zig-zagging bot with planning my calorie cycling and just kind of going with my normal variations in exercise and hunger level, etc (I absolutely cannot fall asleep if I'm hungry, so if a piece of toast with nutella before bed pushes me over my calories that's much better than not sleeping  ). I haven't…

I do understand the "everything looks better tan" philosophy, so if you go that direction, just please be reasonable and don't overdo it - some of the comments here might sound harsh, but I think you should just take the general message of "nobody wants you to get sick because you wanted to look better and feel more…

Thanks! I got it in Tahiti on my honeymoon (a few years ago).

^^ This is correct - adrenaline released during exercise will temporarily clear up your head cold. Adrenaline (epinephrine) and noradrenaline (norepinephrine) will also boost your mood and general sense of well being...just keep it within reason. If you feel very tired or achy or feel the need to take a rest day, then DO…
