Congrats on signing up for the race. Now get training :-) We run over some bridges here in Jacksonville. We don't have any hills here either. Or you could do some treadmill training one day a week and set at an incline to get in some hill work.

I did a couch to Half marathon training last year. Your muscles need those rest days to recover and rebuild. Use the rest days for cross training. Things like weights or swimming or cycling, Yoga anything like that. As you get further into the training you will begin to see the need. I am training for a full marathon next…

I find that if I wait about an hour I am able to do whatever I want with out feeling like I am going to lose my lunch. I do like to eat something before exercise so I have the energy to work out.

I ran a half marathon last Feb. in just under 3 hours. I was very happy with my time since I had just 5 months previously. I used the Galloway method I was in a run 1 min. Walk 1 min. group at about a 14 min per mile pace. I was also going to spin classes once or twice a week and started swimming once a week. I ran in Jr…

My gym used to have one and I could only do about 20 min. An hour would be very impressive.

It sounds like you are off to a good start. Just try to do it each day. Make sure to build in some rest days from exercise. Or if you are in the gym alternate like upper body and lower body. That way you still get in some rest days. Know that you are going to go out with friends and eat that big meal. Enjoy that and the…

Welcome, I use the iphone app and love it. I don't watch BL but I would have to say losing that much weight isn't realistic. This is a lifestyle change not a diet. Changing how and what you eat will make for a much more sustainable lifestyle then depriving yourself of certain foods. You also need to exercise. Most people…

For 2009 I had some training goals I met all my training goals n October. It was a good year for training. I had a good year. i didn't quite make my weight loss goal but I was pretty close. I feel I am much better physically fit then a year ago. And as they say tomorrow is another day. 2010 goals Training goals Swim 100…

I am excited and nervous about the race. of course I have to get through my marathon first. I run much slower like 10:50 pace for my last half marathon. I think a 7;30 is awesome. I my plan for next year is to have fun and improve a bit from last year.

I did a few sprints and an Olympic last year. I am signed up for a half ironman in Miami next October. I am trying to maintain my swim and bike this winter and training for a marathon in Feb. The bike is my best with running my worst. I am working on it. I may never win anything but I enjoy the challenge of being out…

I would suggest getting fitted for running shoes at a running store. Good shoes will make or break your running. The store I go to has the video analysis while you run on a tread mill. Then they will bring out as many pairs or shoes for you to try on and walking /running around in. I might be able to get them cheaper…

When I started I wanted to lose 100 pounds. That just sounded like too much. I I entered a weight that was only 80 pounds away. not much of a difference. After I had lost 50 of it I changed my goal to the full 100 pounds. I still have a ways to go but breaking it up help me a bit. The way I look at it now is I am only…

I usually burn about 100 cal. per mile. I can walk about a mile in 15 minutes so 200 does seem a bit high. What kind of HRM is it?

I just did a 20 mile group run last Saturday in the rain. As much as we were complaining about the rain I wouldn't have wanted to do it on the treadmill. Enjoy your taper and good luck on your marathon. We are only doing 6 miles Saturday (I love being able to say that) 2 of those miles are going to be on the beach. I am…

The classes are usually an hour in length. At my gym they offer a 20 intro class where they show people how to set up the bikes and then they peddle a little bit. If they don't offer something like this make sure and get to class early and tell the instructor you need help setting up the bike. The seat height is important.…

I am training for a marathon in February. I find a group very helpful. In fact we are doing a 20 mile training run on Saturday. I have never run this far before so I am a bit nervous. I would check with a local running store and see if they have a group or know of any. you could always train on your own, many people do…

I would just pick it back up from whatever point you were at when you stopped. If you haven't been exercising take it easy getting back into your routine. You don't want to hurt yourself and have to take more time off. Remember lifestyle change. You have a bad day you get back on track. we are in it for the long term, not…

I know I am going to end up eating bad once or twice a week. But don't let that ruin your whole day. It is ok to go out and have a meal with friends. But I am trying to change my lifestyle. just because you have a big meal or snack it is ok to get back on track and eat a normal dinner. Go for a walk or do something to burn…

I would start today. even if you don't lose a pound this month if you just hold steady you are doing good. If you happen to lose then you are doing great. I hate saying I am on a diet. I would rather say it is a lifestyle change. I have made small changes in the way I eat and adding more exercise. Just take it a day at a…

Great job!!! I am going to try that this week.

As long as you are doing the best you can do. It isn't a contest. You keep pushing yourself a little more each week. And before you know it you will look back and think how far you have come. I went from sitting on the couch to running 3-4 times a week. I would have not believed that 2 years ago. You keep doing what you…

I am running my first this spring. Good luck on your and I wish you good luck qualifying for Boston.

Awesome Job!!! Running a set distance is the first step faster times will come. Great job and keep it up.

See if you can find some people to train with. That helps keep me motivated. I am looking forward to doing several more triathlons next season. You will have to let us know how your training is going and how the race goes. If you have any questions let me know, I have only done 4 tri's so I am not an expert but I would be…

Way to go!!!

Hang in there. I have been at the same weight for the past couple months. I keep training and watching what i eat. The way I look at it is my fitness is way better then it was a year ago. Even if I keep the same weight I am able to run further and faster then ever before.

Cross training is a good way to get in those other workouts. I take spinning classes and I do the Masters swim at my YMCA The weights are good and can be added to some of your other training days. I take Fridays off completely. That is my rest day. Saturdays is my long run (14 miles this week) On Sundays if the weather is…

I read your post twice:smile: I am training for my first marathon in February so your post was inspiring, thanks. Glad to hear you had a what sounds like a very good race. Plus you look great in all your pictures. Like you are out for a short run, not running a marathon. I am training with a galloway group and we have a 24…

I did a couch to Half-marathon last winter and ran my half in February. I decided to step up to the full marathon for the 26.2 with Donna Breast Cancer marathon. I am training using the Galloway method, the group I am in is 3 minutes running 1 minute walking. We did 12 miles this past Saturday. My legs are sore all the…

Thanks for the kind words. Hammersshells I think your legs might be rested enough. (Sorry I just couldn't resist) Just take it slow getting back into it. I like to have goals in mind ahead of time. I am already registered for the marathon in February. My wife and I were talking about picking out some races for next…
