Calories burnt is pretty much just a matter of how much 'work' you've performed. A HRM has no advantage in determining how much work you've done, as how fast your heart beats is no indication of it: the heart rate of an Olympic athlete of my weight would barely change if they did my average run, whilst my heart rate would…

try not to look at what type of cardio - the most important thing is total calorie expenditure, whether its burning fat, glucose or whatever. If you're just burning fuel your body will need to replace it later on anyway, and will have to get the energy from fat then.
-
predicting calories burnt is a tricky business, and MFP uses the same logic as any other sort of calculator to work it out, so no reason why you shouldn't trust it!

To run a marathon. Or rather, to run one in three and a half/ three hours.
-
You CAN gain muscle whilst in calorie deficit if you've never done any resistance training before, provided sufficient protein is present of course. you'll very quickly plateau after this, but you will see a gain at first.
-
Yeah what they said - don't force yourself to eat just for the sake of meeting a certain calorie goal if you aren't hungry.
-
your body can't deliberately put weight on because it feels 'uncomfortable' or not - you will only ever gain weight through taking in too many calories.

yeah, watch it every week! am in england so a british 1 2 was good to see this week! always set my alarm for 5/6 in the morning or whenever they've been on the past few weeks!
-
Ok - firstly, burning calories is HARD! secondly, whoever said you burn more doing a certain amount of exercise if you have more lean tissue rather than fat is wrong - the energy required to do a certain amount of work (using work in a scientific sense) is based upon mass, distance, time etc and not effort as such. You do…

Eating cereals without milk helps! Drinking coffee half an hour before running helps keep me perked up, which ultimately means ill run for longer. Plus coffee is quite filling and the only calories are the ones in the splash of milk, if you just use plain instant coffee. i dont buy any sweets, cakes, chocolate etc...if…

Lol seriously no one has heard of curry!? its prettymuch the national cuisine of india, very popular in the UK! but very calorific as well!

heh, figures!

Yeah having an active job like that means you don't have to go as low as 1200 to see quick results. give yourself another 300! 1200 worked fine for me but then im a student who sits around all day barely moving lol.

Agree with prettymuch everything else that has been said! you can't lose fat off the belly specifically, belly fat is just like any other fat and is lost in the same way: through long term calorie deficit. Annoying how the belly is the last part to lose proper amounts of fat, but I guess thats why everyone wants lean abs,…
-
This site stresses that it never gives you an amount thats too low, so if it says 1200 that should be fine. I was a similar weight to you when i decided to lose some more weight and 1200 worked a treat.

I wouldn't pay too much attention to msn, a lot of their articles about weight loss are pretty questionable to say the least.
-
Looking at fats and other nutrients is important for general health etc, but for pure weight loss matters, calories are really all that matters. Of course, it is far easier to stay within your calorie limit if you don't eat processed foods, foods high in fat etc; then you can eat a lot more and feel fuller for longer…

an hours running at 6mph barely burns off 600 calories, so a one hour spin class would have to be VERY intense to match that. clearly quite an overestimate!
-
Yeah these readings seem like wild overestimates. And it's best to be conservative with calorie estimates, not liberal! I barely burn off over 600 calories when i run for 6mph for an hour. Sure I barely weigh over 130 pounds, so ill burn off less running for whatever distance, but these estimates are nevertheless…

If that really is what you're doing, then yeah I'd say just keep at it. If you're always leaving your body short of energy, then necesarily you will lose weight.
-
Lol a simple glance at the laws of physics will remind you that less mass needs less energy to do the same amount of work. In other words, a fat person will burn more energy running a mile than a thin person running a mile at the same speed.

What types of food you eat are important for various health issues. For purely weight loss purposes however, calories are all you need to worry about. Eating 1200 calories of sweets is a lot less healthy than eating 1200 calories of nutritious food, but you will lose the same amount of weight on either diet.

Going over your fat limit is bad for your heart and other health issues. For weight loss purposes though, you need only look at calories.
